So we don't have any money for May, but have been chasing Gaff all year........I think there is more to come as that sounds like BS to me.

strangely thats truly crystal. Succint even.

This is actually VERY interesting... considering Mahoney went on record saying we had cap space for 1 or 2 big names earlier in the year.

Possibly we have a bit arrival we do not know about just yet?

These words -  - Link is can't afford May with Jesse on list - is my paraphrase, can't recall exact wording, could have referred to picks or dollars

yeah...just a bit of papering over some cracks me thinks....or as you suggest  manure

Money had nothing to do with the May conversation - it was more about accessing draft picks to get the deal done. Gaff is a free agent I believe.

Based on what a few broken down shown-nothing key position forwards have gone for in recent years, right niw Weideman is worth a first round pick. Bizarro garbage to talk of zhogan being worth just the one, even a very good one.

Meanwhile, something today reminded me of Trent Croad. And Fremantle's legendary capacity for terrible trading results.

Prediction: Hogan heads to Freo, does fine but misses the profound bonds with the Demons. Is gutted by missing out on being part of our premiership at the same time as Freo just completely flat-lines with nothing but rubble left when they finally sack Ross Lyon. After a couple of years, feeling more mature and with family settled happily again, Hogan returns to the Demons for half what we gained in the original trade and proceeds to kick 70 a season for the next 5 years. A good time is had by all.

Edit: Typo

that's what i was thinking. money is already allocated to someone else

Maybe Mahoney meant we can't afford May in terms of draft picks rather than $$$.

an interesting take actually

Despite something being said ..."SOMETHING" else isn't .   Intriguing

Josh Mahoney on Trade Radio just now

 - Jesse has some thinking to do over the next few days

 - Jesse having a few conversions and will come back to us over next few days

 - Will support his decision whatever that is, he mau choose to leave or stay

 - Have an idea of value, but didn't advise

 - Given situation with Jesse, have thought through options, including May if he wants to leave GCS

 - This year chance to balance list further, still need to bolster defence, have met with May twice

 - Link is can't afford May with Jesse on list

 - Will develop over the week, will know much more before next Monday

We can definitely afford both, so the show continues.

PJ comes out earlier and says we have enough room to land another big fish, therefore we could keep Hogan and get May too. This is simply posturing for Freo's sake.

Surprised we didn't brief Jones prior to Saturday, but clearly we didn't have time...

Those saying we couldn't afford May because we don't have picks are dreaming. If we want May, we'll get the picks whether Hogan stays or not.

I think what Mahoney suggested re: May was that we were interested in getting him in 12 months time when he was coming out of contract - however, now that Hogan has intimated that he might want to head home, it gives us the chance to get the draft picks to get him now instead.  I'd struggle to see how we could get a good first round pick to send on to GC for May if Hogan decided to stay.

When did May become a 'big fish'. The media are talking about him like he is Silvani

good solid defender.

When does Clarry come out of contract again? If gaff is worth $1.2m, Clarry is worth at least $2.4m

im not particularly disagreeing with this...it's one scenario.

Another :

We have been after May for some time ( even Josh alludes to that )and so we have in mind a play for him. Just left field is this something to do with asking about next years rnd one pick been tradable this year. moving on.. Theres possibly two sources of  currency that might get May...one more cumbersome and involved...the other the fallout from a Hogan escapade. What if...just what if  JM is pretty well on top of this of late and so any idea about may in 12 months is in reality a smokescreen fallback story for what occurs should the Freo deal go belly up. Everyone saves face...and we might still have our man via some other horse haggling. All that said...what can Josh possibly present for public consumption...well...you just heard it.  It holds water ( in a fashion ) as a story. it is plausible. But what is more likely ?  For me....a pick from Jesse for Sam.

Gaff is a restricted free agent, meaning that if West Coast match the offer that North (or anyone else) are making, then they have to trade for him. His manager has stated that it is either WCE or North, so he will not be part of our plans anyway. If Gaff leaves on free agency, then WCE would get a compensation pick after their first rounder, which would be around 19-20. So it would be in their interest to go down the match offer path

I've read a lot of speculation re Hogan/May, but, finally, someone that cuts through the crap - and in one sentence!

That’s where free agency fails and is unfair on the departing team, mind you I have less sympathy for teams that have just won the premiership. But Gaff is a quality player, if West Coast don’t match they are getting royally screwed.

130 pages and I sum it up in one sentence. Thanks, you are obviously a fan of the succinct statement and appreciate brevity.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
