I find it very funny that just 6 weeks ago when BB and some others raised the issue of Hogan being traded they were castigated in the extreme by some folk on here as idiots. Seems they were not such idiots after all.

It seems significant that no one has said it is BS he is staying at the MFC. Not him, his agent, no MFC person and no one from Freo.

That tells me it is going to happen.

Aren't there two separate and distinct issues at play here ?

1. Posters actively advocating trading Hogan before any murmurs that he wanted to head home.

2. Posters trying to discuss the best scenarios available for the MFC in light of the strong rumours that Hogan does want to head home.

You can think posters were ill-considered to want to trade out a talent like Hogan and also discuss the best possibilities if he does go.

My preference is still for him to stay, but I can see potential benefits if he goes.

You want our club to be captained by clingy Tex Walker?

Now that would be a fantastic trade, and Tex could be reunited with his mate Lever. ?

Trade one big forward with questionable attitude for another, one who has shown contempt for teammates even when they are playing in a GF together? ?

Me too however it appears that is not going to happen.

So what is the best we can achieve from the move?

To honest I have little idea but you would hope we get as good a deal as Adelaide got for Lever.

You base everything on what you know.

Got news..one you dont know everything.

Two. Some people know what you don't.

So sometimes discussion might actually be based on something you're not privy to.

Lots of little birdies fly around.

This thread has multiple parts. It started with speculation based on something Boomer Harvey of all people said on SEN. Now we are discussing what sounds like the inevitable loss of a young key forward with mountains of potential. Seems like many are trying to equate one discussion with the other.

Both 1 and 2 were shouted down about a month or 6 wks ago. Some children demanding the thread be closed, others claiming trade scenarios were a waste of time as he was 'settled'. The usual suspects telling us what we are allowed to think. There was some good discussion on what his value might be both on our list and as a trade.

I'd like him to stay, but understand now is a good time to maximize trade benefits if he is open to a move. He's a quality player, but we have the ability to significantly improve our list should he go. Doubt we'd get 2 x 1st rounders next year, certainly not when he becomes a FA.

I suspect everyone would be better off commenting after there is some clarity one way or another

From Bernie Vince's comments he is very much liked by the playing group and they would be happy to see him stay and hopefully enjoy success with them - they also seem happy to accept that if its better for him personally to consider another option then that's OK too - in such circumstances we all need to have faith in the Football Dept to get fair value for a trade and ensure overall we are closer to the ultimate prize as a result

For me it’s not a hindsight thing. Yes players sometimes do sign two year extensions (usually because that’s all a club is willing to commit to) but the difference there between the Vic boy Tommy Mac is the fact that Hogan was an interstater with intense speculation forever swirling about the possibility of him heading home. There was a real opportunity at his last contract signing to conclusively win over the hearts and minds of Demons fans with a Norm Smith-like “I’m Melbourne, Tony. I’m Melbourne.” But the lad chose not to do it. As I said, one foot in and one foot out. A bob each way on the nags.

Let's face it,  the 2 year only extension was the 'tell' ... I felt like saying something here at the time but who needs an ongoing argument with half the site?  I reckon many were grateful that he'd decided to stay back then but 2 years down the track,  the landscape has changed.

Anyway,  a pro sportsperson is entitled to do as they wish ... keeping one's options open is fine by me.  The whole ownership business is a 2-way street.  We had the option of offering Jesse an offer he couldn't refuse back 2 years ago which might have got his signature.  That might have happened anyway - who knows?

Away from the internet just about everyone I know was questioned the 'short' deal.  Not that it matters all that much in the whole scheme of things ... he was either a player for us or an asset we could sell for other assets.  And that is where we've landed.

Feel like I am the only person who doesn't like Hogan, never really warmed to his attitude on field

have you flicked through this thread at all?! it overwhelmingly feels like the majority on here dislike jesse due to his 'lack of passion', chase, blah blah blergh....

surely a poll is needed. something like, 'if jesse is happy to stay at mfc on a new long-term contract, are you?'. the fact i had a dream last night where i met him for a beer to say it'd all be ok and it was t too late to stay, obvs shows where my vote would go.

also, polls solve everything.

I think there may be more to it than how well he gets on with his team mates. A couple of weeks ago all we heard is how happy he is here in melbourne and it has become another home to him. Now it seems to have completly changed. Does he have a girlfriend from Perth ? Does he do stuff that some of his team mates disapprove of ? There may be something going on we don't know about.

Maybe he would like to knock on cousins door than win a flag. Hope not.

I came down to Melbourne for the Hawks game and my brother told me he saw Jesse in a night club lighting a dart the weekend prior.

Players clearly aren't chained to the club outside of their commitments but maybe he just doesnt quite have what it takes to be great?

I can't imagine the likes to Jones, Viney & Lewis approving of this recovery/prep into a new game of footy.

lol.. lighting a dart in a nightclub? for starters, smoking has been illegal in doors since when - 2005? i seriously doubt that a pro footy player like jesse was that wasted that he did a dean martin.. also,  fyi, the kids go to the discotheques these days anyway.

I bet he didn't smile, made you pay, told you the beer was no good, then drove your car home leaving you to walk. Just shows the kind of guy he is! We're better off without him (in your dreams). In my dream, we got 3 first rounders and 2 players and a guarantee that Ross Lyon would never coach the Demons.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
