And a note on barcodes:  If I give someone a barcode, then there is nothing stopping them also having it for the following week (it is the same number) if they get on Ticketek before me (and stopping me going).  I paid a bucketload over the past 20+ years to be a member of this club, and I am treating my barcodes like PIN numbers right now.

Hmmm I didn’t think about that. You’re right. It’s hard because I don’t want a stadium full of filthy booing West Coast turds, but I don’t pay $700 a year for some [censored] to steal my GF tickets.

Yeah but he's tired and needs a rest....

I thought that after a poor couple of games from him, but I was wrong. He is going to be a very handy player for us. Has natural footy smarts.

Some chat about Oliver being "looked at" for flopping. I was there but didn't see it. Any thoughts?

Mitchell put him down 60m off the ball. Stupid act. Did he go down too easily. Possibly but why do it that far off the ball?

lol of course he flopped. i don't care though. i wanted the free kick!

Max the new record holder for hit-outs, went past Goldstein’s 1058 in a season.

King Max!!!

That includes finals as did Goldstein.

Max also has the record for H & A at 1000

Melbourne hasn’t won a premiership since 1964 but starved Demons supporters will be buoyed by an unusual statistic that surfaced this week.

An inquisitive Demons supporter asked Twitter stats guru Swamp what the longest streak of improving their win total year on year a team had put together.

Melbourne has steadily improved since bottoming out with just two wins in 2013, doubling its total in 2014 before winning seven in 2015, 10 in 2016, 12 while just missing the finals in 2017 and 15 this season.

Swamp revealed the six year-run did match the record shared by Geelong (1958-63) and West Coast (2001-06).

The icing on the cake? Both those teams won premierships in the sixth year of their streak.

Start dreaming big, Dees fans.

Huge shoutout to our defence. Hawthorn were on top at times but we never coughed up a run of goals like we would have earlier in the year.

Hibberd is so important back there. Frost and OMac have grown. Jetta is a rock. And Lewis is playing his best footy he has played for us in the last 2 weeks.

For those worried about our defence, don't know if many on here realise it, but over the past 10 weeks we average 70 points against, which apparently is one of the best in the league.

How about the torp from Frost? It nearly reached the circle. Didn’t know he had this in his bag of tricks.

This had to have been planned - all of our “rover” group in Brayshaw, Oliver,  Harmes and Gawn were in the immediate area to get the play finished. (Edit: Gawn ended up underneath it - wonder if he underestimated how far Frost could hoof it?)

Great stuff. Replaying these moments are absolutely spine tingling when you’re free of the stress of the match.

Loved Maxy's hanger in defence in Q4, critical time

Also his push forward grab early in Q2 was great to set up the goal

Both of the marks he owned well before the ball arrived, he's really capitalising on his marking ability.

Is there anyway to watch a replay without an AFL Live pass or Foxtel?

How about the scenes in the rooms after. That is what a big finals win looks like. What a ride we are on!

As Neale said to the group - it is about actions. The Holy Graile is within reach

They flopped from the opening bounce for frees.  All game!  if they look at the flops, they will book half the hawks team.

Does anyone have a link or know what the story is behind the article in the Herald-Sun "Demons Respond To Brutal Hawks Sledge"? Paywall article and just curious to know what was said.

Oliver was simply pushed over, any talk of flopping is idiotic.

Twice in the past month we've been on the ropes at a critical stage. Once in Perth and once last night. On both occasions, someone needed to step up.

Enter Jake Melksham. TWICE!

But yeah nah, a second rounder was WAYYYYY OVERS for him.

It's click bait. Just Roughead calling out that we're choking. I'd expect nothing less...

Are you OK?  Have a little sit down.  I'll get you a blanket.  Lay back now, I'll get you a pillow.  There you go.  Have a little snooze. There's a good boy, been a big day.

Perfectly surmised PS...

Don't have HS access but think this was it - McDonald:  "I was getting a bit nervous. A few of the Hawthorn players were telling us, 'don't choke now', but luckily we kicked the next couple to shut them up pretty quick,"

Great response from the Dees!!  Actions speak louder than words!

Don't think so

But if you have access a Telstra mobile or data on Tablet, the AFL live pass is free with you Telstra acct and also data is usually free (unmetered)

What about the "family club" that has more poker machines than any other club. How does that work?

And no desire to get an AFLW team in the formative competition.

Now to get the papers

...and, as expected, Daily Astonished has more Pies pre-game stuff (including Pies bumper sticker included (Vic Traffic Police covert initiative maybe)) than our victory. Great co-cap. pic though.

as for The Age (that once great paper) -switched the lights out at 5.30pm with not a scratch on game.

Great scarf, beanie, wool geurnsey wearing weather though!

Yeah, with Optus unfortunately. Get the cricket free but would prefer the footy

And the fireworks, wtf?? So rugby league

The fireworks were arrogant and embarrassing. They stopped them in the second half didn't they?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
