We played well on Friday but I think we can play a lot better, we rushed a lot of kicks when we were under little pressure and should have kicked a much higher score. It was very reassuring to win a game, a final, when we were below our best and have a lot of room for improvement.

Some of our kicking was uncharacteristically wayward, Salem's first few kicks were way off the mark, he tightened up after the but some of the other players were a bit off.

Great effort by the boys and to win a game against an experienced team with some great players in it was a credit to all at the club. I'm getting on in years and during the Neeld years I'd actually resigned myself to never seeing us win another Grand Final, well maybe I got that one wrong, this group are quite capable of doing anything.

I'm so proud of these kids and the way they go about the job and so glad that PJ convinced Roosy to come on board and revitalise the club and make us relevant for the first time since 1964.

Interestingly John Kennedy took over as coach of Hawthorn and changed that club forever, because he was sick of Melbourne belting them all the time, well I'm sick of them belting us all of the time so let's hope that Goody has changed our club so it won't happen again.

I expected some tips at some point but it’s all part of the teething process. The more of it we get out of the way the better.

Is there a video of “all the tackles” I’d love to see this as a common feature ?

i cant work out which one was my favourite: Weid on Danger or Clarry (hipnshoulder) on Selwood or, Jetta on Selwood?

The good wife took me grocery shopping this morning and of course i was wearing my dees jersey and u could of pushed me over with a feather as two complete strangers spoke to me about how good the dees were.

The first bloke was talking to me for 30 mins and he was a dees supporter too

I mention this as I live in Brisbane and this is unheard of.

Bloody awesome morning after an awesome night.

Had to make an emergency trip to Coloundra Saturday to care for ailing father.

slightly delusional I booked Gold Coast not Sunshine Coast, couldn't change without great cost and travelled on variety of plane bus and rain to complete journey

was amazed at the sympathy, assistance, smiles, thumbs ups to I received until some random rugby fans pointed out I was still wearing my Demon badged shirt, as he congratulated the Dees.

It seems everyone is supporting our success. Have had messages from Fans of all clubs who are now supporting usas the best club of all left. In Qld even people who had no knowledge of AFL are aware of our journey and are supporting us. Unprecedented and bloody fantastic.

im gonna keep wearing the shirt till I return. Dad improving and we both hope it will be next Friday.

I think we need to find another Vanders clone in case he goes down. His pressure on the opposition and tackling is immense, it rattled Geelong and had them second guessing themselves when they had the ball.

I would be inclined to bring in Pedersen perhaps to rest Spargo or Frisch against the heavier Hawks. Both S and F are fantastic and our future so don't cook them this finals series.

Pedo has shown plenty of vigour and should be told to join Vanders Viney ANB in hitting hard with full force.

Weid on Danger.

What a moment that was.

Vote 1. Jetta on Duckwood.

Just watched the replay.  There was a lot to like, but I reckon that there is a lot of stuff that can be ‘cleaned up’ to make us even better.  Absolutely loved the attack on the contest.  When we were smashing in, and looking to move the ball with speed, we looked like world beaters.

There were moments in the forward 50 where a fraction more composure would have translated into goals.  The marking of TMac an Weids was a highlight, as was Max’s ability to get back or forward to impact contests.

Special mention to Lewis and Salem.  Critical in our win.

Against Hawks we need to stop outside spread and uncontested marks.  Do that, and I beleive they will have little answer to us.  IF we allow them uncontested possessions we put ourselves at risk.  The game style on Friday night will hold us in good stead.

We need to take our chances and take the game on from first bounce to last siren.

As well as Tmac's ability to create a contest if he can't mark it. See Chunk's goal at the start of the last quarter. The geelong spare was lined up perfectly to take a defensive mark and Tmac came in with the spoil using all his own defensive experience

Can someone with computer skill please post the FB post of the “final siren, when they said Melbourne couldn’t beat a top 8 side” it’s the one with the wrestling.

Apologies,  just realise it has its own thread.

What will they do about our poor conversion rate at training?

ANB,  Trac, Salem, T Mac all missed sitters

I really hope they find improvement would hate to lose the game after dominating again all night and not converting

A couple of Vanders should get a look.

Petracca needs to spend an entire week getting counselling to get over his mental fear of kicking goals. His set shots this year have been an absolute disgrace.

We need to bang bodies 'hard' early,,, to make the skilled concern over the next tackle.

... and relentless pressure at the ball and ball holder.

I want them bruised in the fist half.

Roughy and Burgoyne need to feel sore and tight, going thru the 2nd half.

They will come at some of ours, and we have to fly the flag and bang in.

No suspensions boys.!!!

Look at Ablett going for the cheap shots then backing away as soon as Vanders was getting up... Loved the lip Vanders gave him too

And look at Ablett try to shift Vanders off his teammate, barely moving him...  like a heifer trying to push a Bull off her companion.

Salem and T Mav are excused I expect them to be more accurate as they usually are. ANB and Trac have been awful shots at goal all year I have zero confidence in the lining up a set shot at goal.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
