Been a lot of positive articles about the Dees this week, haven’t seen as many on the Cats.

I just hope we can back it up, sometimes wish we were major underdogs, less pressure and expectation.

You obviously don't live down here on The Bellarine/Surfcoast, Geelong surrounds.. it's called the Geelong Advertiser... and its daily...all.year.round.

No don’t see the Geel Adv Danelska, I can only imagine! I hate Geelong too.

Just articles like Oliver saying we don’t fear the Cats, Max saying potentially if we get through for Bernie, Frost hoping to curb Hawkins etc. 2 matches ago were potentially staring at 9th, let’s just get through the Elimination final before anything else, just think it gives opposition ammunition.

It doesn't... neither for them, nor for us.(they're not out on the ground thinking of all those articles and how arrogant this team is... actually, if they are doing that...great - it means they're not focused on task).

Although  its a similar theme here - much like the training camp for us - post hoc analysis by supporters/commentators - always tries to make sense of these things, and links them together to draw easy solutions.

Happy with the Dangerfield ruck incident last time then?

Didnt like it but it was crafty and more of an issue for the umpires I reckon.

Danger is all about player safety and has some good ideas about the future of the game , cant fault the bloke really , other than  hair detailing during games .

Good to see Stanley is unlikely to play .max could have a big day.

Given our relative youth and inexperience, I am concerned Geelong may "Go the Biff" early to unsettle us. How will Melbourne respond to the challenge?

Hey, Jackaub, my hope is that they have already covered this off, and everyone knows that the best response is on the scoreboard.  Going the biff often has the reverse effect - it might unsettle for a few minutes, but it shows real game weakness and if it came, I would have the boys feed off it as a weakness of character.  There are few on the Cats list that would scare me, but VDB, Viney, Jetta, Lewis, Jones, Harmes would be serious 'first responders'.  We should look after our own, feed off it, and smash them on the scoreboard.  We dont want to lose anyone moving forward.

We undid them in the VFL by ditching the Mitch and running Smith and others against the ruckman to give better numbers at the contest.  May they might use Biclavs in the same role?  If they set up that way, I would put max forward for large chunks and ruck Weids against him.

I think you can relax on that score jackaub. There isn’t a player in this team who won’t go when it’s their turn. I think they would actually welcome a bit of argy bargy.

Remember Spargo in his debut game pushing Jones aside so he could get stuck into the 300 gamer in Goddard? These days we don’t recruit blokes who take backwards steps.

I dont mind if they did that , but I reckon we would generate enough inside 50’s for them to play Biclavs loose down back .

7 v 6 would be interesting.

The 2000 GF was a debacle in this regard. Daniher all giggly during the week. Sheedy mean and down to business. A lot of back slapping in the Melbourne rooms unlike Ess where they were boxing to get revved up. He brought back that thug Dean Wallis - he and Long should have been sent off.

The world is different today and I agree they might try that stuff but I have the feeling we are better prepared for it. It starts at the contest and we are a lot better than them at it.

I hope we smash them.

3 gamer Abbott to take on Gawny.  this could get messy

Abbott goes ok. I hope Gawn does not underestimate him, yet I hope it gives him confidence to totally dominate.

No doubt Blicavs will help out and he is quite handy around stoppages

I hate this mob, seriously I do,

All of them and the coach.

I want to beat them so bad

It's doing my head in.

I wish we were playing anyone but them.

Am I the only one, what is it about this team.

I didnt mind the 2007 version of the Cats: Enright, Bartel, Rooke etc.  quality players with some humility

but it is Scott's team now and the arrogance is evident.  would love to smash them off the park on Friday!!

Gawn is an avid watcher and scholar of all ruckmen. He won't take anyone lightly, especially going into a final.

Abbott has nothing to lose, everyone expects Max to dominate and I am sure the Cats are planning to rove to his taps. It's more important how we keep our tactics fresh at every bounce, to ensure the Cats mids don't dine out on Max's tap dominance.

For Geelong, despite

Gaz, Joel and Danger cheating

Elimination

Maxy in the ruck

Jumps and taps majestically

Clarry sprints away.

I think the wait and stress has made me slightly deranged.

I have been having some banter with a Cats coterie member (and former board member), who btw was more than happy when bomber left. Anyway has no confidence in them winning, said he hopes we win the flag.

Personally I'd rather build up Selwood/Danger/Ablett/Hawkins, it makes us look better when we win. And I ave so many Geelong supporting mates (and a few cousins from the maternal side of the family), can't hate them, jealous yes, but they are not Essendon/Collingwood/Adelaide/WCE/Hawks.

Even Scott who I view as a hypocrite of the highest order, I still respect, he has amazing record coaching that compares well (except his finals record which is approaching Hardwick 2013-2016 levels :D)

But -  if they do have blokes targeting Max's back or legs (Mitchell style) Lewis has my full permission to run through and KO any snipers.

Half of my family is Geelong too and they're all saying we'll win. Interesting. Is it the fall of an empire?

I think we'd back Max to dominate the ruck post. Of course, if he's being completely neutralised then you'd look at trying some different things, but otherwise we should stay the course.

You mean Josh Kelly who feigned being asleep during the singing of their song after beating us one day? That team was arrogant as well.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
