Id almost be looking at playing Viney as a defensive small forward with spurts in the middle. I could definitely see Tyson keeping his midfield role and Viney being used as a clear like-for-like upgrade for JKH. 4 Quote

Older demon 2,818 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Attended this morning and thought the club did a fantastic job with the setup and I was impressed with the size of the crowd. A slick session and the odd torp being bombed at the goals. Some photos attached 7 1 2 Quote

JKH has run his guts out the last couple of weeks and his pressure acts have been important - not sure that JV will be quite up to that right now. Still could be the switch, but not strictly like for like. 1 hour ago, homsar said: Would love to see Viney up forward for a bit, with short bursts on the ball. Who are the Cats’ rebound players? The Chief 697 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Had placed JKH in the ‘delist’ basket earlier this year, but think his last few games show he has a future at AFL level, though it still might not be at Melbourne. Thought he was a standout at training this morning. Showed a fair bit of speed, which was a bit surprising,, and very good disposal skills, when disposals from a lot of others was sloppy. During the tackling drill he nailed numerous physically bigger players and Viney looked slightly annoyed when JKH wrapped him up in a strong tackle that Viney tried but couldn’t break. Based on recent game and training form, he’d be pretty stiff to miss Friday’s game. 7 2 Quote

Kev 10,926 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) To Dv8 My first line "Great turn out by the fan"s", why say "and the supporters!!!!". The admin and demon army put time and planning to bring "more" to todays atmosphere and I thank them for that. Without the people then of course no atmosphere. A game is played because, someone made some rules, brought some equipement and cut the grass. Purely it is about some people having fun and kicking a ball around. Those who watch is incidental to those who play. You say you are the important one and they should make it better for you. I say, you give them money and allow them to do nothing but play. Do you use the same logic for all the entertainers. (Music, art, theatre, movies). I think we are the mugs. The performers are the ones having the best time and the corporates sell that to us. A few with the glory and then the masses. Without the sponsorship, not the fans the game is just what 50 people want to do with their time off. The colleseum was built to manipulate political powers and no matter how important you think you are you remain a pawn in the big picture. Elite sport, music, art, theatre and movies all take something away from us. If we don't turn up to the game then they would change tack and sell us something else and we are always buying. We crave a tribal connection, they know it and we love it. They know what we accept how far they can go with us. The masses will never dictate to them. I think you are grassping at straws and reading something into my words that was not there. I do understand your frustration, especially since daddy told you you are the most important. I would suggest you get out and have a kick of the football in an open field and know it is bloody good fun as your mates make lots of noise. Edited September 1, 2018 by 000 1 1 Quote

The very first thought, all time. NOT an after thought or a sometimes thought. Prior to other thoughts, in considerations of this footy club. Supporters should be foremost as an ongoing thing,,, the rest including money from that support WILL flow, & grow from that attitude. The rest follows along, once this Aussie-Rules footy club has the attitude, to treat its support base very well. this is it. The accolades are to themselves. and no mention or thanks, Re thoughts to the faithful supporters... who surely create all the atmosphere and excitement, with their attendance, voices, and appreciation for the players_ Otherwise the players would just be chasing a leather thing around an open field. without much of a sound. If that was players talking,,, patting themselves on the back, without including the supporters for creating the atmosphere necessary to raise the standard, I am sure WE would all be up in Arms. This is a subtle-take on things Re the club, and how it can make small attitudinal changes with-in, that will have a large effect going forward. for the betterment of us all. The AFL also is guilty of the very same attitude in the past,,, of considering all stakeholders ('clubs', 'the players association', 'players', 'player managers', 'coaches', 'administrators') about the state of the game... and guess what occured... numbers started dwindling, excitement dropped, and interest waned. And all 'the stakeholders suffered',,, because the No-1 Stakeholders were not even considered at all. Until they started to turn their backs on the game itself. This was arrogant on the AFL's part & the people showed and are showing still, their displeasure. In a sense, WE might have been leaders of this attitude, unwittingly. It's time it changed, properly. It Is 'the people', who fund and enable this Games growth, and existence. . Is that you Yoda? Quote

Congratulations should go to the supporters, for taking the time to attend... in big numbers, creating the atmosphere. And thanks to the Army and Admin for organising and putting all this together, for the supporters, and the club. This is how it would read if the supporters were being thought about first to last, and not about the money and atmosphere just for the players. _________________________ Its the supporters who want to go to represent the club and to watch their hrero's. That's what supporters do. That's giving. It's the clubs job to think of how they can give back to the supporters; and a part of that is to put the best team on the park they can, to represent the Red&Blue. This is the synchronicity of footy and of sport... Giving and taking equally, to each other. 2 hours ago, 000 said: A game is played because, someone made some rules, brought some equipement and cut the grass. As I was not there in attendance, and could not be; I am only there in spirit. I say it for all other Demon supporters, past, present and future... and in so doing, for the very Mfc club, itself. When you have something to sell to some people... they are the most important part of that transaction. and IF they are to invest in the sell able item. They are to be satisfied. So they are happy with the product and want more. Its not about me; me of today;;; Me of the past, maybe, I did wish for more, back then. But I don't know IF I would even be at a Melbourne Grand Final nowadays but you can betcha I would be watching and recording it for my future to view again, and again. I would be as happy as any... if we won, and I would be somewhat satisfied that we have broken thru, after all our amateurish ways & days. Its all I hope for from Footy. Apart from this club growing up, and leaving this elitist dream go down the toilet, where it should be. Clubs are not about Sects. Clubs are for people, and in Australia, it should be for all and any people. Irrelevant of colour,,, cred,,, or wealth... and certainly no snobbery_ Everything I do on footy forums, is built around being for this Club, and for Footy. And for the supporters of this once great club. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - big picture items. We are ALL pawns in life. All living things are but temporary, and so are pawns within Life-Itself. The only problem is people, some people think, or want to believe they are more worthy, more smart, more relevant. And that's where it all starts to come unstuck. The Colosseum, have you noticed how rough around the edges it has become, over the past millennia? somewhat dee-cayed... oh, & there is a rank smell, deep down in the depths below. Maybe some of the original participants and patrons of the time,,, before it all ended in craapp . Lets not let Melbourne Demons go the same way, of the same arrogance, and Footy, likewise. . mpc 148 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I took my kids (4yo and 2yo) today and they loved it. Especially the 4yo. She has been to about 8 games with me this year, but I think she actually enjoyed watching training more because she got up close to the players and her jumper is now covered in autographs. The players were very patient at the end signing hundreds of kids (and some adults) jumpers, footy's and flags. Special mention to Sam Weideman and Neville Jetta - they were really good with the kids - both engaged the kids with a big smile and little chat, whereas most of the other players were a bit more serious (not that theres anything wrong with that). We were waiting for Gawny at the end and there was a huge queue of kids, and he didn't make it to us because the demons staff told him he has to go and do weights. Poor bloke then got mobbed all the way back to AAMI park. As for the actual training, it was just good to see the team running around in September. Really looking forward to Friday night. 8 1 Quote
