Until today, I have NEVER barracked for Collingwood. They have been the enemy ever since they pinched the 1958 flag from us and earlier.

Why today?  I figured that if Port won today and then won against Essendon next week they would have 14 wins the same as Geelong who are absolute certs to win next week. Even if we managed one win out of two this would not be enough with us only 13 wins. A Port win today would have meant that we would have to win both games to make the finals, a difficult if not impossible task.

I still cling to the hope that Essendon will beat Port seeing us into the finals safely. They did push Richmond to the limit last night. One can only hope and dream.

Your'e right here. Norf could be a dark horse and if they beat Adelaide and St Kilda could push us out of the eight. Still a lot of ifs and buts!

Yeah I rarely barrack for Collingwood. The last time I cheered hard for them was that Rd 2 game in 2016 on Fri night when Grundy pinched it in the dying seconds. Reason being it was the last of a 4 leg multi that netted me $260.

Today was nothing like that. Very bittersweet, they did what was necessary but they also moved into the top 4 :s. 

worried about tomorrow  but at the same time think we can sneak a win   will want to be at our best no bombing long  forwards to lead out  bit of composure inside fitty   but i know nothing so we get what we get     cmon  make it happen    us by 10

At the risk of being a stickler for detail, Geelong will finish on 13 wins, not 14. Meaning that one win regardless of what happens should be enough to see us through because of our percentage. Port would’ve had to win both games and Geelong would’ve had to absolutely annihilate their remaining opponents to overtake us on percentage and push us out. Which granted judging by today is a possibility but unlikely.

All moot given Port have lost today. One more win and we are through along with Geelong. North can’t make up enough ground on percentage even if they win their remaining two. It’s there for the taking if the lads want it badly enough. Eagles and Giants have been hit hard with injuries. Granted we have a few out but not enough for it to be an excuse.

That’s the issue, we’re just as likely to lose both guys as win them. Lose both and it’s gane over (unless Ess beat Port in Adelaide)

To be honest, if we lose next two I'd rather miss the finals than limp in and rely on Ess. I want these players to burn in the guts if we lose our last 3. It was interesting to hear Shaun Burgoyne on AFL gameday say it burnt Hawks players in the guts with disappointment when they missed the finals last year, now look at them. And us, well more of the same after round 23 last year.

While I get this attitude, if we make it, it's because we have done enough. Won more games than those below us, or won by more if we get in on percentage.

Disagree.  The experience of playing in a final is valuable.  The likelihood of gut burning having the effect you desire is not high based on the experience of the last couple of years as you mention in your last sentence.    

I'm happy to rely on Essendon if need be. They must be useful for something other than disgracing Australian sport. 

Also all teams limp into the spot on the ladder they end up in one way or another.  Some are limping now on the back of wins against us, eg. Geelong.

I can definitely see that side of it, I can also see that limping in with 3 straight losses can create more of the same losers mentality. They've had their chance this year and blown it, we should be higher on the ladder. Fingers crossed it doesn't get to that anyway and we don't go into R23 this year with the weight of the world on our shoulders. Clubs like Hawthorn hate losing, we need to find that burn and desire attitude, which will help us beat the better sides and win close games.

I'm prepared to take that risk.    A decent showing in a final even in a loss may have the opposite effect. And a win.....

Get into the finals and all will be forgotten.  The narrative internally and externally will turn to a team on the way up rather than one endlessly floundering.

I do agree sue, hoping a final will give them a big "taste"

Making finals is a massive mental hurdle they need to overcome to move forward.
