I love Hannah Berri as a player, but we simply do not need any more of his type and the Dees.

Pace, outside run (both ways), and ability to consistently deliver inside 50 are our prime needs. Gaff has to be a target, playing alongside our fit and firing Hunt.

Well the Club agrees because as I say they have withdrawn their earlier interest and they continue to go very hard for Gaff.

Hi Ante_Up.  I’d only be guessing because the fact is my strong, direct connections are within several Clubs, Swans, Hawks, & Geelong not the Dees.  I must say I’m surprised that anyone is doubting this mail because as I say,  prior to my Post,  Dan H was only being mentioned in injury reports.

All good. To my other q - who are likely replacements, if any, from your connected clubs. Of course, don't reveal anything which might be compromising.

Amazing to see how quickly the Gaff-Brayshaw hyperbole has been quelled. It will be interesting to see how things progress. Is there any sense when we might get an indication?

I'd be unbelievably surprised and terribly disappointed at the same time if we had any interest in Dan Hannebery.  Not what we need at all.

Not only that, we have no high draft picks, so this seems strange to me.  In fact, I find it extremely hard to believe.

I don't get much mail and I'm careful to share unless it's impeccable.  And it is.

Hannebery met with Goodwin early in the year and was rapt the Dees had interest.  He's happy to stay at Sydney, but was keen to entertain the idea of coming home and playing with the Dees.  And it was the MFC in particular that excited Dan, because he rates our list and future.

We may have now gone cold for the reasons mentioned by the OP, but this was most definitely 'on'.

It makes sense we would have been interested at the start of this year.  But with Brayshaw and Harmes developing so well I'm glad that we would take it off the table.  I hope they are still going hard for Gaff.  Maybe a new kicking coach (is that Hawthorn biomechanics guy available!)

That was always going to be an issue, particularly when a Club like the Saints who have lower picks gets involved, however, Dan H has to agree to go to a bottom Club like the Saints.  To answer your question, if we were to package Tyson & that Adelaide second round pick which is now not too bad you might squeeze something decent from a Carlton etc etc.

Third rounder. Approx pick 43, of little use in a trade

If Hawks can excise JLT, Hodge and Mitchell from their list and Cyril (personal reasons) and pick up O’Meara, Mitchell and co - why can’t we do the same?

Bernie, Chunk, JLT, Balic, few others plus a bold trade for Gaff/May/Josh Kelly

I can’t be bothered checking, but I’ll take your word for it, and Hannebery is decidedly under contract, so (barring gross ignorance) the rumour appears too unlikely to be made up.

However, I believe it to be very very unlikely that we’d still be interested, if we ever were.

Where were we getting the high draft pick from to trade?

We need May big time, at the moment.  Lever is no guarantee to last out 2019_  as we've seen first hand with the Swans Alex Johnson.  Also lever himself, its his 2nd ACL.

David Schwarz.

Lets get after May this year.

... and look to trade in 2019_  for whitfield or kelly (I don't think we can afford kelly)

We can, that's what the Hogan thing was about,  rdr.

Melbourne, might still be able to profit.  With Tom Lynch leaving the Suns and if May gets traded to the Swans for presumably what the Saints give them for Hanners, then the Suns are likely to have three picks inside the top 6.  They need to import experience and plenty of it to help with another slew of high draft picks and a young list.  So desperate were they last year they parted with Pick 3 for Lachie Weller.  We should look to get back into the top end of the draft.

I have a bucketload of respect for Hannebery but surely he is not the role we need filled, when we already can't fit all our midfielders into our midfield, even with Viney out?

If I were looking at grabbing a Swan surely a dependable hard-working team-oriented half-back who reads the play well and rebounds effectively, is 24 years old with 100 games under their belt and who is unhappy with their most recent contract offer and is originally from Victoria would be the prime choice?

Not to mention, he was probably the proverbial 'difference' on Sunday, picking off our wayward inside-50s and calmy using the disposal.

With Vince seemingly gone and Lewis and Jones on their last legs (I hope Lewis gets very little game time next year), I think we need to import some 'wise heads' and leadership.

We desperately lack maturity in our side, and unfortunately our mature players are not very good. This is why the OP makes a lot of sense. We know he's a fantastic leader, and we could use more of those.

Definitely, and I'm sure a few other clubs (North, for example) would jump at any chance to get him. But we can offer him 'the dream' as well as the cash!

The more I think about it, the more I drool at the prospect of our half-back flanks being Hibberd and Lloyd, with Lever in between.

it won't happen - i still think he'll stay at sydney

why on earth would you leave such a successful club?

You wouldn't, but if the club came to you and said they needed the salary cap room and that you weren't a guaranteed first 22 player, you would consider your options.

Yep agree, I've been banging on about this for 6 months. Hibberd, Jetta not getting any younger either.

I have come to realise on Demonland that there are some Posters that just object and want to counter argue just for the sake of it.  It would make a really interesting study.

I suspect that it might have something to do with perhaps not having been player they wanted to be or just general lack of life achievement which manifests itself in keyboard warrior syndrome.

As I say, the "let's tear it down", "let's doubt it", "let's ridicule it" reaction is alive and well at Demonland.

I've given you a bit of good mail, totally backed up by Pro Dee and all you want to do is still dispute it.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
