Nieta and Millsy learning Spanish... apart from the tid bits of info which could have explained everyones confusion as to how Millsy was being played lat year, also not to mention why he seemed to have gone backwards in form, the part I found the most interesting was Neita and Millers language classes.

Would two key forward talking in a language only they understand in setting up set plays and working out who will lead wear, who will block who so on and so forth with one and other be an advantage? Or is alot of that done on instinct and or hand signals (which can be read by the opposition)?

I know I sound like an absolute broken record, but it still irritates me when people dismiss Brad Miller because he had a shocking 2006.

Show me one relatively inexperienced player who goes on to have a good season without the base of a good pre-season.

Nothing would bring me more pleasure than for Miller to prove all of this doubters wrong.

He is far from the perfect footballer, but he is also far more able than many people give him credit for.

  I'm with you Jaded. Give him a break. I reckon a great year for Brad Miller this year. I hope he proves them all wrong !!!!!

I have long been a 'Frosty' supporter.

Sure he doesn't kick too many goals a season, but he is basically the only one that leads up the ground. Without him, we would have far less entries into our forward 50.

Posted

for my part I think he is and have been preaching him as an aaron hamill type more as a hff. With Dunn or another tall accross half forward he could be quite deadly if not scoring but getting possesion accross the half forward line and keeping the ball in.

Posted

1. Dunn is unlikey to play a "tall" role as he more than likely to challenge Robbo or Yze if those senior players do not lift their game.

2. Miller needs to improve below his knees and improve his awareness to be anything like an Aaron Hamill . Fact is he is not and never will be.

3. Bizkit is right..I'd rather he learnt how to kick rather learning Spanish but I support player broadening their minds besides just AFL.

4. Aside from Freak's rubbish, the issues raised by more balanced posters have been issues that have existed prior to 2006.

I hope he does have a good 2007 but I am realistic what to expect of him and I do not expect him to be what he has been talked up by some as being but is undoubtedly not.

Miller was carrying an injury in 06 which I guess is an excuse, my biggest problem with him is that he doesn't seem to ever play 'smart footy'. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong this year.

Back on topic, my computer doesn't seem to want to load that article. Is there any mention in there of Miller's fiance? I know she's from another country, perhaps one where Spanish is one of the preferred languages?

Speaking of his fiance, if I could have an avatar of her I would. Impossibly stunning young lady.

"Away from football Miller has been frantically studying Spanish so he is able to talk with the Chilean family of his fiancee Pia. He has encouraged captain David Neitz to complete the same eight-week course, and the pair can be heard regularly practising their new linguistic talents on the training track, much to the annoyance of their teammates."

Brock had a near full pre-season last year.

He was struck by injuries throughout the season.

Besides, we already know that Brock is a freak. Nobody would dare compare Miller to him.

I reckon he can probably multitask better than you Rhino. <_<

Jaded I share your support of Miller and think the angst aimed at him is unjustified. But those of that view will clearly not change it until Brad performs on the field. That's his challenge. You'll get RSI responding everytime someone criticizes him.

You're on "record", as am I. The next part of this story is up to Brad.

Thanks for that CTD.

"4. Aside from Freak's rubbish, the issues raised by more balanced posters have been issues that have existed prior to 2006."

Freak's FACTS about Miller

- In 50% of his games last season he got 10 possessions or less!(this occurred 7 times)..despite having ample game time.

-He kicked 4 goals for the year, the least of any forward in the competition.

-In arguably his best game of his career against fremantle where he had 19 possessions....8 of those possessions were errors (a 2006 high)- Source: Pro-stats.com

-Of Miller's 20 possessions against the kangaroos..19 of those were uncontested. (source: pro-stats.com)

-The most contested marks Miller has ever taken in his career is 3..that was in 2005. He took 2 against fremantle..a 2006 high.

If you're happy with that..than we are in a bit of trouble thats all I can say

RR's Point 1 relates directly to Point 4, (I think).

We have had the "...Yze must perform or else.." debate all last year, and maybe earlier , and yet we still say, lets give dunn a go if it doesnt happen again.

In 2007 we should be saying, lets give YZE another shot if DUNN doesn't perform.

I saw enough of the young brigade last year to think , along with the usual suspects, that they will contribute to carrying the team forward this year.

Go dees.

All you Yze haters- where were you when he kicked 5 against the Dogs, 4 against the Roos, 4 against the Pies, 3 against the Cats, 3 against the Swans and multiple goals against Freo, Roos and Port? He did all that whilst still managing to be 6th in the entire league for kicks! Geez...if you drop Yze, than you are dropping pure class.

If Miller had half the season that Yze had then Miller would be captain in 2007.

Posted
Careful Freak, the Yze bashers care little for facts...

Those people who have left out Yze in their best 22 are obviously quite happy for talent that high above the norm to be wasted at a beach side reserve down South.

Whats next....Robbo's spot to be in doubt (and don't laugh, some have suggested it.)

I suppose their pinning their hopes on unproven quantities such as Chris Johnson (no disrespect to him, but you get my drift) to take us to a premiership rather than proven class acts.

I don't "..hate.." anyone, let alone someone in a MFC jumper, and I WAS at many of those games.

I was ALSO at the Elim Final against the Saints last year and saw Brock McLean pull it out of the fire, I saw Bate clean up opponents last year when he had no right to at that age.

There's only one record that counts in AFL - your finals performance record. (Stand up Daniel Bell, TJ and some others).

If your happy to finish 6th-4th this year, and fall out in the 2nd or 3rd last week of Sept. then fine.

Lets do an Australian Cricket team and give some people a mortgage on a spot instead of looking at younger, more deserving talent.

Its called succession planning - the trick is to get the timing right.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
