Last nights game.

Umpires. 3 votes.

The media bang on about the look of the game, rule changes ect.

Umpire like they did last night and we have no problem.

Let them go.

Put the good teams on in the prime time slots and the crap teams at 6pm on Sunday night and a lot of this would be fixed.

The AFL needs to take accountability for poor Friday night games by firstly gifting Carlton/St Kilda so many games and then, mystifyingly, defending the decision. It really is amateur.

Some commentators do have some merit in the opinions regarding congestion and over defensively set ups, but I can't agree more with the OP, leave the game alone and fix the umpiring interpretations.

Typical over reaction from the media.. Mind you most of the noise initially was from Slobbo & Ralph who are Essendon supporters when their team were 2-6 or something like that.

You can add the Bulldogs to the list. This is not 2016 or 2017 based on 2016 form.

Spot on. Remove the idiotic introduced rules of recent years and it's fair game. Couldn't agree more. Last night there was that ruck rule debacle where a Cats player did not nominate and only the Richmond ruckman could go up for it, beyond stupidity.

Even worse was when no-one nominated and the boundary umpire was told to throw it in again.

I despise BT's commentary, but in this case he was absolutely right....throw the damn thing in and get on with the game.  No need to wait for rucks to walk over.  If no-one is allowed to ruck, then let the ball hit the ground.  Better still get rid of nominations, and only 2 people can contest.

.....it ain't that hard! Except apparently for the AFL.

Didn't see that one but jeez, what a shocker! Yep, ain't that hard, third man up gets a free against.

Because the AFL and umpires would

if 4 men went up. /sarcasm

But yeah free against the 3rd man up solves it and stops wasting time and energy.

The continued refusal of the AFL to consider a flexible Friday night fixture is a mystery. It has a fantastic product but it risks killing interest in that product by its myopic Machiavellian approach.

The interesting thing is that a flexible fixture would be good for sponsors of the less powerful clubs such as ourselves in that sponsors would know that with success come exposure unlike now.

I hope Gill took a good hard look at today's game at the G. Be very careful with changing the rules Gill, there is nothing wrong with the game.

Just the teams you and your mates at Channel 7 allow to play in the marquee time slots.

And both umpired properly Haw Bris games

I feel the umpires actually left too much alone last night by putting the whistle away. Rewarding undeserved players is not the answer either. Have to balance the middle ground and reward effort.

The game is continuing to make Gill and his clowns look like fools.

Yes the game has minor issues to clear up eg. Ruck nomination rule, running through the 5 meter protected area etc.

All this nonsense is all about the almighty dollar, not the state of the game.

What is the impact on the ' maid' when the dees are not involved in a game that exciting BBO ??

Im beginning to think the state of the game has more to do with the state of Carlton, Doggies, GCS and to a lesser extent St Kilda and Freo than the rules.

To fix this, Carlton and Doggies to play each other at MARS stadium at night under dark eaxh week, GCS to play local league in Shanghai and St Kilda and Freo to merge and relocate to Tassie.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
