Didn’t put him at the top of the Best Demons Ever List. I said he would be on the List. Obviously you don’t. 3 Blueys doesn’t happen every day.

I don’t understand the venom for Jones. Some on here should be ashamed to call themselves  Demon fans.

Red... we're simply asking valid questions. No one. ..NO ONE gets a walk up start any more....or do you disagree ?

Jones isn't as 'vital'... as effective as he once was...that just calling it as it is.

I want the best team playing and as such don't give a monkeys who that 22 is....no one should...and no one ought have their allegiance to the Dees questioned for doing so.

He has always been a one-way runner that goes through the motions. In a poor side he stood out because he was the only one that won contested ball, clearances, and disposals. For many years, some here have lauded his commitment and effort. You cannot question either. However, he has always been a limited albeit serviceable player. He is very much our Richie Vandenberg equivalent: a favourite son, stuck around in bad times and helped with the transition into a new era.

I would argue he is still comfortably top 22 on experience and opposition knowledge alone: even when not at his best as yesterday, he is still serviceable, and opposition teams are still wary of his potential. His trade value would have been at its highest in 2015, but has now reached the point of no return and will likely play out his career at Melbourne. TBH I think he would struggle to crack a spot in the midfield of any current top 8 side.

Agree on the Vandenberg comparison. If we had more experience on our list, you'd be moving on Vince, Jones and probably Lewis at the end of this season, but given our dearth in this area, Jones and Lewis will stay on.

I'd almost certainly suggest Lewis and Jones will bow out at the end of 2019.

Sometimes, the end comes quickly and you can really see it this year with Jonesy. Vince shouldn't have played on this year IMO.

On a side note...no one probably on the current list deserves to be around to holdup our next flag as Chunk. But it's not about him. It's about the best team afield. Only THAT team might win it.

Jones may not be wearing his beloved Guernsey that day.

How long is the list?

Didn't have much competition for those 3 Blueys did he.
I don't understand the fawning love myself.

Bugg is not good enough. Should not play again unless we're ravaged by injuries or our small forwards fail to deliver consistently.

where is the fawning? you're the one with the extremist views

jonesy may not be at his best but is easily in the best 22.....and that is all that matters

He's on the list, AF, and if he does everything asked of him in the twos, and a spot opens up, he should get another game - as you've just said

Definitely top 28 - 30

Buggs a delist for mine, don’t see the point in him. If Hannan back to the 2’s do we play Tyson?

As for Jones I feel the end is nigh but only because our inside mids are the leagues best. He may need to try half forward.

Now to beat the Cats and end their year, that would be so sweet

What we do with Nathan Jones over the coming years will be the biggest test of whether we've improved our club culture. Will we do a James McDonald move and set ourselves back 10 years (again) or will we respect his contributions and ease him through the forward-line, then into coaching/retirement?

There comes a time ...

It ain't THAT far away in all respects.

Apply the blowtorch to one of our leaders after a poor performance to get a better return in upcoming games, and people all of the sudden use terms such as ‘killing off’, get off his back and the like.

No need for excuses if you can’t back it up, which is it - ill or injured?

Yet, it’s ok for people to dribble about fringe players every day of the week, rather than constructive criticism and highlighting improvement in areas for upcoming games. We need the real Jones, the warrior.

No one is immune from criticism. Not good players, nor great players, nor solid players.

Where is the shame in that?

Shameful for even bringing that point up..

B grade player in a D grade side for years. As proven by Vince coming onboard at the time. So overrated by Dees supporters. Admire his loyalty but a poor leader, goes missing in big games as well as when we need him and ordinary disposal. If he weren’t a Co Captain I’d trade in a heartbeat. Season has been below average, disposal count blinded by lots of cheap 2m handballs out the back of packs. He has been ordinarily slow all year and doesn’t chase, lacks defensive edge apart from the odd expected tackle.

Totally agree @H_T

The blubbering rhetoric that bubbles to the frothy top is lamentable.

Fancy wanting the very best for the club !!

Every dog has their day but they don't last forever. Time rumbles past.

I wonder how the players would respond if Jones were dropped (not that he deserves to be). Bit of rubbish being spoken in this odd thread.

bb, I don't believe any would disagree with your point that time runs out for all - even the greatest. However, I have noticed in a number of threads this season that Jones is the target of some quite malicious criticism.

His game against the Dogs certainly wasn't his best but was serviceable - his season has been  solid and includes a couple of standout performances. No doubt his time will come but the sometimes manic clamouring for his head is quite irrational or, as Ethan so eloquently puts it above, "rubbish".

He was clearly either injured or sick.  Get off his back!

Yep and after many years as a great leader IN SOME VERY ORDINARY TIMES and player we indeed need to cut him a lot of slack!

Would rather a half fit ( Which is what I think he is) captain than many who would think they can carry the mantle!

Capt Courageous

Carry on Nathan!!

Mr Manor...I actually concur.

It's not a head many seek in reality....just that he is but mortal. And like the other mortals on a team sheet should be judged upon merit...and well-being.

Should he suffer form lapses ...or be set upon by a lurgy...he must be judged as an other.

It appears to this bench warmer that to suggest such reasonable direction is to have ones card marked ' off to the gallows'

He's not the Messiah you know ;)

Agreed

"It appears to this bench warmer that to suggest such reasonable direction is to have ones card marked ' off to the gallows'"

I have not suggested capital punishment for any promulgating a "reasonable" argument.

"He's not the Messiah you know"

An unnecessary addendum. I do know, and at no time made or inferred such a comment.

I'm just clarifying things for those not of the Manor ;)

So much lamenting and wailing going on here....

I believe that the club and Nate Jones are respectfully discussing his next role and affording him all the time in the world to allow him a potential transition

The centre bounce has become too hot for the co - skip

Some over the top comments here, I don't think Jones is the big defensive liability some think. When Roos first came he sharpened his defensive work but that was because he Roos bought in other players to help win the ball.

Even at the start of the year without Viney it was clear Jones was our most dangerous midfielder with the ball.

Now he's back on the wing and he's not ideally suited but he spent most of the 2nd half on Ed Richards who is a very talented young player and Jones restricted his influence.

It's not worth talking about Jones' career end date until he's settled in a lesser role, one which he could do for 1 year or 5 years, we don't know yet. I'm not even sure if it should be half back or half forward but I've got not doubt he's got a role in one of those positions coming up maybe from next year (we need to bring in some proper wingmen to make that happen).

Obituary ??

More just spectating a reality.

No player is beyond scrutiny. Deep down we all just want the best players we have available ...playing.

I'm not a fan of players taking the field injured or I'll. I've never known anyone to heal or recuperate whilst exerting strenuously.

Playing form players is I'd rather have thought crucial at this time of the year.

How do you see Jones currently RPFC ?

Weird thread.. though he was superb for the first half of the year.. dropped off a touch, but calling for him to be dropped, please!

No one in the team has a bigger heart than Jones.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
