McDonald should have been able to look up there to see hogan streaming toward him from the goalsquare. It's not hard Melbourne.

It also wasn't hard for him to hit ANB on the chest from 20 metres away either.  But yes, he should also have Hogan leading at him in that situation as well.

Hogan... [censored] me - Hogan is  Gen Z and some... wants to be all things. Mate, lead up from the square... you;ll be fine...

Its [censored] like when Reiwoldt (for Saints) would jag 7 marks on the wing... yer ineffectual up there fundamentally pal..

What an absolute disgrace.

What is with the rotation of Hogan and TMac. Just leave TMac deep forward and Hogan playing predominantly between the arcs.

How good is it that they've blown the budget and forgot to pack the umpires mic's. ?

ANB is the luckiest player ever and he better kick this goal.  He had a player running on the outside, ignored it and then got tackled.  Thankfully Razor is on hand to look after him.  Dumb play.... and he missed the goal as well.  Jesus.

He is a complete fn dud. Fit but no skill.

remember 5 weeks ago, when we bitched about high scoring games on friday nights... *cough*

This is quite possibly the worst game I have seen.....and I've seen a few!

No wind :)

I gathered as much.

We SHOULD be killing them???

i don't care how much better statistically we are. this is awful.

[censored] me. this kicking is reminding me of the Geelong game last year......lets hope its not a repeat.

We should be.  Kicking for goal has let us down big time.  Everything else has been pretty good.

Our small forwards need to be on the ground for the dropped marks inside 50.

We don't have small forwards. We have 22 midfielders scrambling around with no idea what their game role is.

utterly pathetic.

if it was 7.6 at this stage - Freo would have folded and it would be a waltz with yer grandma... instead....

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
