My workmates are all Dutch and I don't think can be blamed for any Demon debacles. More broadly, Arron vandenburg has been a bit of an issue, but I'm fairly certain he's Belgian.

"St Kilda gave them a lesson in work rate."

We haven't played finals in 12 seasons.

We couldn't lay a tackle in the first 10 minutes of the club's most important game in a decade.

Record membership.

Record attendance.

We are being taken for a ride, folks.

I knew we should have gone for the Black and Decker and not the Chinese knockoff version.

Same goes for our imitation game plan. It's falling apart before our eyes. Not even out of warranty.

Jordan Lewis wouldn’t want too many people to see that video. Do you think Goodwin would have the gonads to send him back to Casey to work on his effort when he doesn’t have the footy???

That’s really poor. I didn’t watch the show, what did Roosy say about it?  He’s be hating that sort of footage after the defensive foundation he set up.

Agreed. It’s been obvious for a while. Watch the Tigers (live) and you will see the constant run and second efforts.

we have a c.rap defence who are incapable of defending one on one. Same as last year. And when our mids are so lazy and let oppo players run past them at will it makes for a terrible result.

Goodwin says he knows the problem - I am actually starting to doubt it - but it is the same in the Cats, Pies and PA games.

16th this year for scores once oppo are i50. we were 18th last year. What a disgrace. Roos must cringe watching that vision. I do.

A damning analysis. There should be some very sore backsides from firmly planted boots at training this week. And the Club wonders why we get criticised for getting ahead of ourselves. Wake up Demons.

Fifty seconds of selective footage with the title 'Melbourne's horror workrate exposed!!!"

Goodwin needs to be sacked. But not before a Today Tonight expose can bring to light the true evil of the MFC.

This AFL caper just seems too hard for this mob. Only comfortable with a JLT length season. Blow the opposition away with 3 goals in ten minutes then  cruise control for the remainder. Where are the leaders? Why I am I seeing carbon copies of our worst games last season reprised? This game was the replica of the GWS game last season. Will be interesting to see what round 23 turns up if we haven’t blown our season already. And if we get done in by Freo next week I will not be surprised.

You don't rate Jetta or Hibbard?  Say what you will about his lack of pace, but Lewis is pretty decient one on one as well.  Salem is hard as nails an always brings tackle pressure.  Oscar had a brilliant start to the season, but has obviously gone to [censored].

Yep, nothing that most supporters that understand footy haven't been saying for years.  When the game is on our terms we are great as soon as we can't play the way we want we are disorganized and don't work hard enough to stop the momentum.

You can go back to Paul Roos and the number of press conferences he mentioned that the side couldn't adjust during a quarter it took a qtr time or half time break for the coaches to address.

You can talk these guys up all you like. The results are there to see. Last season and this. Defenders are there to stop scoring . We simply can't do that at the average rate in the AFL when oppo teams go i50 . We are well below average. In fact this year we are 16th. I'll say it again for you. 16th. Doesnt matter what i think. we are close to the worst. Last year we were the worst.

OMac is hopeless in my view. He played a couple of decent games this year but thats it. Jetta's stats this year are actually pretty bad but I do rate him. Hibberd is not playing like he was last year. Salem is Ok without being great. We were last in stopping oppo marks inside defensive 50 last year. Not sure what the stat is this year but I would hazard a guess and say its close to that. Our talls back there are just no good.

Who was playing CHB and FB last year when we didn't have Lever and Tmac went forward?

Obviously Omac was one, who was the other and how did we structure up? Was it Frost, cant remember.

Omac hasn’t been the same since being concussed against the pies. Was always solid up till then.

It's all on the midfielders and half forwards. The pressure applied once the ball turns over is non-existent. Around stoppages it is fine, but once it clears the contest it is too easy for opposition players to get it inside forward 50. Collingwood game and last Sunday were perfect examples. Not enough pace or gut running in the midfield.

16th yes, 16th I get the point.  We are also 1st in the competition for scoring .  I say that again 1st and have the 2nd best percentage in the competition, so I think some of it comes down to game style and a deliberate decision that we will allow more scoring against us than some teams, to enable a more attacking game style.

Clearly it's all about ballance and the stat I really care about is the wins Vs losses columns, which admittedly has taken a bit of a pounding over the past few weeks.  To suggest that we are no good one on one is flawed thinking though when more than ever, it's a team game.  I actually think the area of our game which has lost us the past two games particularly is the inability to make the most of our scoring opportunities, but that's a whole other discussion.

We are not that far off the pace at the moment, but we do need to get back onto the winners list and start racking up the four points.  Yes tightening up and few things defensively will help that, but it's no where near and dire as is being made out to be there case by some at the moment.

Brayshaw and Lewis directly contributed to 5 opposition goals on the weekend through poor field kicking and woeful defensive efforts.

I wonder sometimes if this group is really hungry for it, or are they just happy being AFL footballers.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
