I didn't realise a TV knows where the signal comes from when someone watches it.

So, how many people watch an AFL game on Foxtel? Do you know? What about all the people who might watch it on AFL Live (like me)? Or who stream it otherwise on an internet channel? What about everyone who watches Foxtel in pubs and clubs?

You need to update your idea of "television" in terms of exposure.

I know about TV ? Exposure.

There are many ways to view a TV Signal, but all of those numbers are still way smaller than the Free to Air Figures

so our exposure in Darwin was relatively small, compared to if it was on FTA.

If we get less than 24000 at the G for a home game it actually costs the Club money. That  is break-even in the existing structure.

So transferring  home games to NT where we are given a Sh*^tload of cash makes perfect commercial sense

Where'd you get your figure from?

I have it on good authority - CEO/Prez - that our break-even at the 'G is actually a bit under 20K, but that was from a few years ago now and might be out-dated.

Congratulations.

there have been many ridiculous posts this year, some in this thread, but this one is going to take something miraculous to not win the worst post of the year award.

We've been winning at Docklands since last year I think, because of our contested ball winners, and our ability to defend and 2 way running.

We've won at Alice Springs and Darwin.  And the follow up game.

It's not all about revenue for the club.

- - - - - - - - - -

But it is about exposure on TV. To attract new supporters and Kids.

And it helps break public perception of a white-Australia elitist sort of club.   Which we need to do.

The club has drifted away, over the past 50 odd years, from being an open club, to be too heavily focused on members and elitism's.

This needs to stop, because its a roadblock to many Aussies. And new Australians, and Our Original 1st people Australians.

IMO as we've become an easy beat team over the decades;,,,  we've gradually lost our 'Outer' Fan base of normal Aussies... and only held our rusted on members mainly in the North,,,  like the Mcc.

This inturn effects all the Board decisions taken over the past 50 years... as the majority of directors have Mcc approval and references from our very own high profile supporters who frequent that establishment.

This inturn does not help to Re-grow our outer fan base,,, by reopening the club to allow access to the outer fans.

This desired exclusivity is just that..... exclusionary.

Our new admin centre and training should be in Alice fo' sho'!

I must say that every time I have spent a week, or two, in Alice in winter I have come back to cold Melbourne invigorated.  Absolutely NO sapping of energy.

(Can't speak for Darwin as I have only spent a few days there in Spring).

'timbo', I know your not as simple as you try to make out when you have no argument, but trying to play dumb is not the way to be manly.

We are beggars. not choosers; and we also have an obligation like other clubs, to benefit this game. Our is in the NT. others are into Tassy, some Qld.

We are attempting to grow relationships with the Casey region, and the Sth East. As well as the Alice.

We cannot have all the cake to ourselves, and eat it all, as well.

Even if we are aligned to the mcc.   We cannot be that spoiled to think only about ourselves, or themselves.  We have to contribute to the games greater needs.

So you know the clubs HQ should not be in Alice;  or anywhere but Melbourne.

Gosch's is ideal.

I have spent months in the Kimberleys. It’s fantastic. But it slows you down very quickly. I have never sweated like i did up there, and that includes all of my trips to Asia

why not use an emoticon, to guide the reader?

Text carries no subtlety or colour for me to find. as in life...

I need it spelt out... as a friend once said to me. ("do you want it spelt out") my answer was, "YES".

This is why I speak plain and straight...   And yes, I have a great sence of humour and fun, but subtle words leave me without meaning or understanding...

Words have far too many meanings,,, and since I've learnt to not live by assumptions;  I find indirect language a barrier to understanding;  as words can mean so many things.

Different weather conditions effect people in different ways...   I cannot stand warmth with high humidity;,,  it causes me to sweat, and I get irritated with discomfort.

However I can tolerate 49 degrees without freaking out. I don't like it but can manage apart from sleeping.

I would take the 49 degrees dry heat,,,, over 26 degrees and high humidity any day.

I'm a cold weather person, preferring temperatures around 15 - 24 degrees as my ideal. So I'm NOT any sort of reptilian in habits.

we have very much over complicated what all of this NT was/is about

Its called MONEY

We whored ourselves..simple as. In destitute times we panhandled and took the first bus to Moneysville

.......and then some bright sparks/spin monkeys  tried to dress it all up as another really good idea. ( mutton dressed as lamb )

It's never been a good idea to play up there. Yes by all means  camps.,..pretend games etc etc...but to go there in the real season...as a HOME game...is again....all about the money

Surely we dont need this anymore and the tradeoffs far outweigh any gain these days.

Common sense would dictate bringing it to an amicable end.

Common sense .....hmmmmmmm

its about money....nothing to do with growing memberships...nothing to do with finding our  'roots' ....its been about money.

I cannot for the life of me understand why it’s not played the week before the bye.  There could not possibly be a more simple and straightforward solution.

This makes no sense, why are we potentially risking a flag on this, we give up a proper home game in both cases as we always play interstate sides up there and that isn’t even taking into account how we perform the week after both games. This will cost us a top 4 or top 2 one of these years

When I raised the revenue raising concept of the $5 charged for registering in the finals ballot many people replied that it wasn't an issue and equated to the cost of a cup of coffee.

Well for around 2-3 cups of coffee we could ditch Darwin.

This really is getting way beyond a joke. We take a game that is is 70:30 our way in Melbourne and turn it into a 50/50 at a stadium that can take 10k and which is never on free to air. Pure madness.

Happy to have the game at the Alice if needed and I think we can make it into a TV blockbuster but the Darwin game is ridiculous.

PS: As to the territory fielding a team...some local council districts in the eastern states have more people than the whole of the territory combined.

PPS: How about a game in Mildura or Albury/Wodonga funded by the Vic Gov't under the decentralisation program like the Bulldogs have with Ballarat.

Is it really too much to ask for both teams playing in Darwin to have a bye the following week?

It is a pain in the ass but if the money is right, and this inequity can be addressed then I guess it is tolerable.

But it is unfair to both teams  not to have the bye following.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
