Former Furniture Salesman who bribed the Merger

such hi creds...

Was there a better option than Gary Pert?

i would say no...

Yes he and Hassa were the driving force of the merger and on that night I approached both to let them know what I thought of them.

I was outside and couldn’t get in.

The one's who had previously indicated that they would vote against the merger, were the only one's that night who were asked if they wished to change their vote.

Sour taste for a long time. Which is why i still believe we have a huge dormant supporter base who will not become members until the club starts winning serious games

Tonight is a prime example. Win under scrutiny.....

Why did she write that article?

The meet and greet last week should have negated all of that article.

Wison will be watched closely now, she has gone early on this one.

Caro was back on Classified, Caro talks to Hutchy, Hutchy has history with Pert, Caro writes article.

(I've only heard one vocal member of the underwhelming group past its time, and that is Dr Turf, who went to Scotch.)

I am now really hoping Pert is a huge success, who will grow the solid foundations laid by PJ.

It will be in spite of Wilson, who will be trying to manufacture another downfall

She’s not the only, nor even the first, journo who is gunning for Pert at this early stage

This must be what it's like to be a big club.

Are we becoming a big club? A tall poppy? If so then I welcome attempts to cut us down. We must be doing something right. GO DEMONS!!

Classic Caro, entirely predictable. Did not take long for her to get her angle, contact a few people and write her critique.

The stiletto was sharpened and poison pen got to work. She will never praise a decision or action but alway “damn with faint praise”. Her style of writing always suggests he has gleaned information and insights that are credible and accurate.  Importantly, this same style means that she is never entirely wrong.

laughable article.  She is one of first who used to say the Melbourne Boys Club is ruining the place - before Roosy came along - and now  past players and melbourne people 'arent happy'.  what a joke. and Malthouse isn't happy? he signed that damn succession plan himself so he can complain about himself

Pert oversaw a period of success at the Pies, won their first flag in 20 years and had them commercially flying. And to call him a discard after being a CEO for 11 years is disrespectful. Clearly they were very happy with him the majority of the time

Jog on Caro

Her gender is completely irrelevant

Actually I became a fan of Caro during the Essendon drug saga.

She tore shreds off the cheats while the Herald Sun did everything they could to protect them.

My reading:

  • Pert was the 'fall guy' at Collingwood;
  • Caro is a sniper, and a headline grabber.

Other journos have written the same stuff so not sure why folks here are gunning for Caro.  I'll reserve judgement on the content.

At least we know the 5th candidate:  Sam Graham - the AFL's candidate it seems.  Looks to have a decent CV.

One thing in the article that makes me uneasy is if Bartlett is "...determined to take a more active and vocal role in running the club."   On my experience that sure ain't a President's nor a Board's job.  A Board's role is to set strategy and policies and to establish corporate governance processes to make sure strategies and policies happen and to know when they don't happen.  But if a Board has the right people in place it should trust them (CEO etc) to run the organisation; that is their job.

The President and the Board getting overly involved in management and football matters is exactly what went wrong at Collingwood.  I really hope Caro has it wrong about Bartlett's intentions.

It really is one of the worst articles I've read in the press.

Absolutely no research into what the Club needs for its new CEO. Ie someone with experience to deal with the biggest facility decisions in the Clubs history and someone who can grow the lifeblood of the Club's future it's membership. Why didn't she bother to find out what the criterium were and why Pert was selected. She ends by saying she's not suggesting anyone else should have got the job. So what's the point of the article. There isn't one.

Instead of that the only comment she has to make is that some people have been critical of the decision therefore it must be bad. One of the main ones being Malthouse. Come on Caro, even you are better than that. You know why Mick is the very last person to rely on a  judgement on Pert. Besides that he was the person who recommended Neeld. Say no more.

It is a very sad attempt at trying to make yourself relevant when you have nothing to say. So just write something negative. Jeez the footy Press are disappointing.

I call it creative writing or perhaps footy fiction. No doubt Caro is contracted to write a certain number of articles each season. She also has to maintain her profile and distinctive writing style.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
