The coach has already declared him an ‘in’ in his presser....

Ok, weird, did not know that.

Sounds like the fitness team are pretty confident he has the miles in the legs, but that he is still not 'match fit'.  I think this is a sound move.  Even T Mac was cramping at the end of the Saints game and he is both a fitness freak and had more of a preseason than Viney from what I understand.

No posters putting Garlett up.

Hes in our best 22 despite his slump.

Out vince. In jv.

Glad carlton won yesterday.

When Gartlett is up and about, he is a significantly better player than Spargo is at this point in my view.  But Garlett needs to show some good VFL form first at this point I think and that other modern footy cleché "work on the stuff the coaches want".  I think Spargo has shown some good signs and will get better as he develops and I don't think it hurts for Jeffy to get into some good form in the VFL either, I'm hoping he takes the right approach to it, gets some real confidence and desire about the way he plays and comes back cherry ripe.

Agree that it's good Carlton put all their energy into beating Essendon this week.  I think in years gone by, they would have left something in the tank and focused on the MFC as a game they had a chance of winning.  I've been happy so far this year in our ability to put away the bottom sides - let's hope it continues.

Weather will play a part in selection. If it’s wet I think Weids comes out. If not, perhaps Tyson comes out.

and how many has Viney kicked this year ?

Not sure if your comment was real or idiotic

Either way, Viney comes in - easy

Whilst I understand what the club is doing with the Weed there’s needs a balanced approach. Currently playing 3 talks up forward gives us a lot of flexibility, so after the Carlton game Pedo should come in for the Weed. Against the Crows we can’t afford any passengers, there will be opportunities later in the year for him to get more games but as it stands he’s not in our best 22.

Don't agree. I was watching that tackle carefully thinking this might be bad, but really  there was no concern in the end. Don't even think the guys head hit the canvas.

Agree 100%.   Harmes eased up late in the tackle to ensure that the GC player's head didn't hit the ground.  Perfectly executed tackle.

I mentioned last week that Jeffy mat come in to give Spargo a rest.

Unless anyone needs to managed. Tyson out for Viney. Vince is playing all his time back so is not a like for like. Charlie will get managed at some point this year but I would hate after kicking two and with a functioning forward line dropping him before he gets his first dance at the MCG, particularly against a young side.

Like for like.

If Viney plays well at Casey.

IN- Viney

OUT- Tyson

Spargo 0 tackles. If Garlett kicks 3 or 4 and lays 4+ tackles there could be another change.

Petracca treading water and needs to start swimming fast. I would like Trac to play deep forward. Dees will not drop him though because it would cause a fishing frenzy with other clubs (especially Collingwood). And it’s the last thing the Dees need.

Weid playing an important role. He stays! Petracca can play his role though.

Hunt is going to find it hard to get back in. Salem tearing it up!

Tracc signed an extension at the start of the year. Being dropped once from poor form wouldn't make him want to jump ship.

I would argue Weid is in our best 22 structurally but is not in our 22 best players. I would be keen to know the difference between Weids kms per game time vs Pedersen. Just because they both can play forward and relief ruck and just because Ped is more accomplsihed at VFL does not directly translate to we would be better this year (now and later) with Ped playing the role.

Main in this week..... My wife and I into the crowd for our first match of the year. Looking forward to seeing it live after being in Qld for a while. We'll have to dust off the coats. Spargo hopefully stays in ( think he deserves to ) ANB is likely to remain. Frankly, I just want to see Viney run out.

I feel Weid is in to give Gawn a chop out whilst we play the "lesser" sides.   A few weeks in I was wondering how Gawn was going to maintain his massive workload.   I think he is being managed through this part of the season and rightly so.

I think what people are forgetting or not noticing is that Sam has been given a role to play and at the moment is playing that role.

When Tommy plays wing or Jesse plays up the ground, Sam is the tall up forward to crash the packs and bring the ball to ground or at least make a contest. Then he goes into the ruck and gives Big Maxxie a spell.

That is his role.

He is captain of the footy club and an absolute bull.

There is no point keeping him in the 2’s

Even though he was serviceable last night I think a lot of people are forgetting how poor ANB has been this year.

In: Viney

Out: ANB

So he has been poor, then plays well and you want to drop him.

makes sense

If ABN is as poor as everybody seems to think he would not be in the team. But he is in the team so i'm guessing your all wrong.

I think the Weed will be a player for us in the future but for where we are right now I think Pedo would have more of an impact when we come up against more hardened opposition.

Crashing packs and creating contests is what happens when you’re not marking and converting the footy. Yes Weideman is competing, ( the contested marks against the Bombers/Saints were great) and he also has good 2nd efforts in his tackling. But for mine if he at times is struggling against weaker opposition the club needs to weigh up our opponent when selecting him, hence a balanced approach.

His head was centimeters from hitting the ground.

IIts different to bumping off the ball. You are allowed to do that but if you hit the player in the head you take responsibility.  You are not allowed to sling tackle. That was 100% a sling tackle. He won't  get reported but it was not a tackle he or others would want to repeat

I had a little look over on the Carlton BF page, wow they are incredibly confident, must be the most confident 1-7 team in the history of the AFL.

I know Viney will come in, depending on how Hunt and Jeffy go (they will need to smash the door down) will determine if there are more changes because at the end of the day they are both best 22.

I can see this game being a bit of a slog like when we always play carlton they seem to bring us down to their level and we will kick away at the end to win by 22

So you want to keep our co-captain at Casey. Makes sense.

pity they had a win... was hoping for the usual deserted ground... they will be there in their delusional thousands.

Guy rang into the radio spruiking them as a definite finals team for next year. I think they are destined for that 10- 18 rung for several years yet.

40 point win next week and more if we kick straight.

Jeffy is a possibility for next week if he has 6 tackles and four goals this afternoon.

Don't quite understand the baying hounds for Tyson .. (sure he had a bad game) but last week the hounds were baying for ANB.

I like the Weid in the team. hes taking a key defender and allowing T Mac and Hogan to wreak havoc.

Yeah me too, I reckon Spargo is going to be very very unlucky!

I agree Jeffy definitely in best 22 BUT needs to kick goals and be involved more often than he sometimes is!!

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
