The title of this thread had taken on a whole new meaning. There is no way the AFL can give him the chance to come back for the Grand Final should West Coast make it so Minimum 7 weeks.

Im sure the freo boys would want him out there... they were trying to kill him after the incident.

They sure did. I haven’t seen a team reaction like that for years.

I won’t be suprised if he leaves Western Australia soon.

His house will be targeted by someone

So, given all of that, do we still want him?

The club need to consider the following:

  1. Impact upon Angus Brayshaw
  2. Impact upon supporters
  3. Impact upon sponsors
  4. Impact upon wider image of the club
  5. Can he deliver at the same level playing wise
  6. Need for his skills
  7. Dollar cost
  8. Impact upon other players on MFC List

If they do all that in a professional manner with reasonable transparency I will support the decision made. I trust it is not an easy decision.

The fact that he ran away from Brayshaw after the hit, won’t look good in any hearing.

You think he missed, i don’t

Huh? I said nothing about missing with the punch.

It was not his intent to knock his teeth out is my assertion.

And as for running away, you're trying to compress all of the madness that took into a split second decision and then expect him to do what exactly?

It wasn't Gaff that took it on the chin. Many posters here are almost condoning Gaff's thuggery. My real symphathy goes to the entire Brayshaw family. Hope this incident doesn't stop Angus from showing us his real talent.

Seriously, what Bull Shite. Fake news.

Name and shame them. I'll wait.

Have I missed something who at the club has given the slightest indication we are after Gaff? We need back men before another mid imo.

Running away is not a good look. Brayshaw had already fallen to the ground.

I don’t think Gaff aimed for his chest. If you look closely at the video, it is a punch that is rising. He punched him right in the cake hole and then ran.

That’s why Docker players were kicking him as he lay on the ground afterwards

i have never seen a team do that in AFL before

So I guess a couple of questions remain unanswered which are of more interest to us:

1. Has Gaffs price tag just gone down?

2. Will the club keep pursuing him considering the image it will have on the club?

I still want him.

1. No one truly knows but i doubt it will. I also doubt we would be in the market for him if he wanted more than 1mil a yr

2. Probably. Lewis has a more thuggish reputation and we loved it when he signed.

Correct.  I loved it when we signed Lewis and he hasn't exactly got a perfect reputation for on field behaviour.

What Gaff did was terrible, but it doesn't change the fact that I think he would be a very handy addition to our side.  Gawn to Oliver, handpass out to Gaff who runs 10 metres and hits Hogan on the chest.  Rinse and repeat.  The bloke will do his time for the punch and then he can move on from it and do all in his power to rebuild his reputation in the game.  Melbourne can help him do it.

To be fair, that's almost 50 years ago.  Times change.  I can't see Freo supporters going round to his house about this incident.  I think his reaction to it and his immediate apology after the game will be enough to calm down even the most over the top supporter.  He isn't Barry Hall after all.

Of course you'd be tremendously upset.  I'd condemn the act, but also acknowledge it was out of character and appreciate that these things can happen, as unfortunate as they are.

He'll cop his penalty.  What else do people want ?

Gaff's head on a plate, judging by the hysterical outrage of many on this thread.

We all condemn Gaff's act and he will probably accept the tribunal's penalty, but some of the suggestions on this thread are ridiculous

What month was that?

I need to work out if I was born or still a foetus in order to answer it accurately.

I agree, I don't think Gaff went out and thought "I'm gonna smash his jaw and break his teeth coz he's being a pest to me". I think he thought "you're an annoying [censored] I'm gonna hit ya a little because I'm having a brain fade moment and oh [censored] I just smashed you really hard and I am screwed".

I feel for both of them, but bloody hell you look at poor Andrew and you just feel sick. To hear his mum was crying in the rooms just breaks your heart, when you think what Gus went through and that she has another kid in the army. I heard on radio this morning that she'd had to take on some counselling to help her deal with the Gus situation, and now this. FFS my heart really breaks for her!

This will no doubt have long lasting ramifications on Gaff, his confident, his demeanour, the way he is perceived by the wider footy community, and no doubt his future and asking price.

I would still welcome him to our club, but as stated previously, I would hope the club looks into the mental impact this will have on Gaff, on Gus (I'm sure he will be OK with it) and as a general look for our club. We were very hard on Bugg and he has barely played since (although he is a poor player which doesn't help), so how do we proceed should we get Gaff without looking hypocritical?

Why would Angus be affected or do you mean Andrew?

I'm not saying what Gaff did isn't serious or he should get off. I'm just not prepared to call someone who has been a nice level headed guy for his entire career a thug or question his character because of a brain snap. It's how he reacts to this and by all accounts so far you see the remorse.

I also share symphathy for the Brayshaw family.

You wouldn't be affected if that was done to your brother?  Andrew physically and Angus mentally. Must be a terrible situation for Hamish too.

This was a Derby incident. It won’t be forgotten in Perth

No way.

I think the outrage is because the victim is 18 and the damage done so severe. Not being able to eat solids for a month and 4 displaced teeth. It was a very forceful hit.

I wonder if he was wearing a mouth guard.

Yes he was, they showed footage of him on the boundary and he couldn't get the mouthguard out, maybe his teeth were driven into it I'd say.

This incident does raise for me the need for a red card system. It will rarely get used, but when something like this goes down, how is it fair that one team is down a player while the player who took him down is still able to run out the match?

It would have made no difference to this actual game, but what if someone did that to Oliver in the first minutes of a GF? Would you want that player to keep playing while we were down one?

There has to be some sort of system to deal with these unusually awful incident in game.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
