The 3 of them can rotate the ruck, with Hogan playing high, & R/R.   But we need speed in the side to offset this setup.

Weed should not play until he is ready to stand on his own two feet, then probably as a deep forward with ruck duties.  I remain optimistic about him.

As for Tom, I like him as a CHF with huge endurance and strength.   Also a very handy ruck option.  

As an aside, just a passing thought - could Weed benefit from time at CHB (at Casey).  Our most succesful FF started as a CHB.

YES!  however he did but he had kahoonas.

We need him to stabilise our defence.  We have plenty of forward options, but they don't do us any good if we leak goals seven or eight at a time.  TMac replaces Frost, Lever hopefully settles in as the third man up and either Weed or Pedersen plays as our second tall forward.

He was training with the forward group this morning. 

Forward please. We are getting the ball in there plenty but cant take a mark inside 50 and we cant convert when in there. We seem intent on Hogan roaming as the link (which he is doing very well) and we need a true second ruck. We need to sort our backs to provide more flexibility, run and skillful execution and I don't understand how putting T-Mac back there sorts this. If Weid starts killing it at Casey or if he plays this weekend at AFL maybe a rethink but otherwise its pretty clear cut for me. 

Zero doubt in my mind. play him in the F50

He spent all preseason training as a forward maybe play him forward

When Hogan is key tall, its it's & either TMc or Weide in there. 2 talls have to play high, up toward midfield. taking marks in the midfield.

 a 2man tall backhalf, Lever and OMc.

I'd be rotating in an ideal world, all of Petracca Hogan TMC and Weide thru the Mid zone, at given stages;  either as rucks or R/Rovers accordingly.

Its a good question. Very good question. 

I think the switch has been locked in. He's a forward. We're desperate for some height, strength and a little innovation down there. Amazingly he brings that. Has all the makings of a 40 plus goal a year forward. Games in the end are won scoring higher than your opponent.

Then there's the Devil's Advocate question. To stem the tide against us ? I dont think the real problem is the personnel in defence ( other than those doing the instructions and structure ??)  Pig Lever Oscar Nev and whoever else ought to be able to defend. Yes a rabble currently but more by design i suspect than players.

Tom provides a filip down there on a day its all gone pear shaped. You then might simply be protecting % if nothing else.

Put me in the Tmac as a fwd camp.

Surely T Mac will once again be a defender once Weideman finally makes it AFL level. You surely can't have Hogan, T Mac and Weed in the 1 forward line.

A defense of T Mac, O Mac and Lever as your 3 talls supported by Jetta, Hibberd, Hunt and Lewis/Vince looks good on paper.

I don't think they ARE looking to have Weed Tmac and Hogan in the arc.Hogan might make a very handy utility type. 

But then...im struggling to understand the secrets of our structure....often i think i have 22 likewise on any given game day

Agree BB Hogan is one of the few big men going around who is reasonably good below his knees. If we are lucky enough to have both Weid and T Mac firing (we would need to be very lucky) we would be a very powerful unit.

As to how it would work with the current game plan, that is of course a secret known only to a select few of which I am not one.

For me I would position Weid about 35 metres from goal and get him to run a number of patterns that were used intermittently as decoy runs and scoring runs. Nothing I have seen so far of the Weid suggests that he has the natural ability to "find" the ball. It would then be up to our skilled kicking midfield to find him at the designated points. ... yeah ... of course I'm dreaming !!

If our defence had proven to be a cohesive, tight unit that played for one another thus far, I'd have no hesitation in having T Mac as a permanent forward.

However our defence has been a complete rabble and liability this year. It's screaming out for a competent defender that takes contested marks and a genuine leader. And don't get me started on the fumbles, the falling to ground and the loose checking that has resulted in the easiest of goals to the oppo.

Lever has so far has been an epic bust for the price we paid. He was supposed to be the 'captain of the defence' that would release T Mac.

Jetta can hardly move. He's gone from a slowish small defender to someone that's running like a 50 year old.

Hibberd is a shadow of his AA form. Down on both quality and quanity of possessions. Last year was obviously a season he won't ever replicate.

Wagner just isn't a good player.

Frost has been a complete disaster since mid last year.

Credit to O Mac though. He's been the one shining light of an awful unit this year.

 

T Mac will play forward when he returns, but until our defence improves I'd rather he down back.

I think the word you are looking for is 'if'. 

If Weideman makes it, it will be a huge bonus. This would be an interesting problem to have and with McDonald potentially testing out the FA market this year, Weideman would want to show some sings real quick.

Given our relatively sustained I50 count, TMAC and his tank and speed, you’d have to have him forward and available to head back when needed. Both TMAC and Hogan can rotate up the ground a bit together where necessary. If you have both in the forward line and it gels, well... many sides will struggle to contain both (again noting our I50 count).
