I was thinking of Weid on Friday night watching Essendon as I was focused on James Stewart up forward. Is big, presents well and has some good hands.

He didn’t show any more than Weid other than some flashes last year as a 23 year old.

He is finally starting to make an impact but it’s taken a long time. He’s playing in a role which is exactly what we want from Sam imo.

I still have faith but it’s going to take another two years and then he will be a goer!!

Careful deeko, too much logic in those sentiments.

You know what I'm saying. He might have been heir to the throne for a while. Watts was king for 5 years... Probably 10.

The king is dead. Long live the king.

I hear u Dappa but JKH has managed to muster a pretty strong lynch mob of his own with no Watts factor involved and personally i felt Watts hand balled the "King of whipping boys" mantle over about 18 months ago!  That doesnt mean he wasnt STILL a whipping until his departure!

Sam needs to bulk up but should be given 5-6 games run in the MFC team

I agree he needs to be given a good run in the seniors however even with TMac out injured, Pedo is ahead of him. When TMac comes back I can’t see a spot for Weed. I’d prefer he plays some solid footy at Casey while building his confidence up.

It’s so funny, only ever comes out of the cave to talk chit about the Dees.

Well there is a position there for him if he wants it.

Thought Hogan was half decent when he went into the middle, he just creates such a huge hole in the forward line when it happens though.

TMAC out for a while, time for Sam to step up, even if he is carrying a little niggle. Be the dictator, not the dictated.

Sorry but he has been whipped in his own right for quite some time now.  Watts had nothing to do with it.  No closer to looking like a goer at AFL level than he did 28 matches ago.

Each to their own opinion. I think he's better than at least 5 guys on the list. More importantly he has ingredients I think we lack.

But as I say, whipping boys are called that because that's what the fans do. It doesn't speak to whether or not the player deserves it.

I doubt, given the current list build, that there'll be room for many players to work their way in. Too much depth.

Heh. Yeah he sure is. TBH I don't think anyone gets whipping boy status anything like Watts. We may never see it again.

No, too soon for him. He doesn't have any form, or confidence yet.  He'd be a lamb to slaughter.

Now is not the time, but if you want to fast track him, maybe start playing him at key defence in the VFL. Just for a while, to get him running at the ball & with the ball. And kicking on the run.

And also a run on the ball.

Get his physical momentum moving, & confidence.

Morton, Bennell, Cook, Gysberts, before them Pickett copped a lot from fans.

And many who did deserve some, were loved & untouchable by fans.

Nothing like on Watts level. I'd argue also that JKH doesn't cop it as hard as those names. Perhaps only cos he rarely plays seniors.

Can we please wait until Weideman actually shows something.

I would say that only Picket and JKH did not deserve the whipping they copped.  Pickets was torn a new one by supporters on the no bruise bandwagon of that time.  He was umpired out of the game.

Nowadays its common place to crash bodies just not the sacrosanct head.  Hello J Selwood, you lookin' at moi?

JKH is just an honest toiler who has no preconceptions on his ticket, accept that he knows he has to be a bloody heard worker to make it.

As did Nibbler, just over 12 months back.

I have no doubt that he will show something, and then, show plenty.

I'm in no out-standing hurry for that to happen.  As I reckon that when he does come on, he will be just what Dr ordered.

And then we will be a more complete outfit.

Good point. I actually think we can put away the glasses. If you are struggling to look good in the vfl in your third year you are in real trouble.

Yes and no, od. I'm in the camp of 'give him more time'. Plenty of tall timber out there taking 4-5 years to come on. eg. Gawn, Hawkins. But in the end, we have to trust that the fd will assess the situation better than us mere mortals. Otherwise we'd be pulling out the little hair we have left!

Gawn always showed he could cut it at senior level he just did not show the required application. Weid will never be a Hawkins he just does not have the size or will have IMO.

gawn was recovering from a knee injury and built like a twig when he joined us

He has spent half his career injured DA.

He is only a third year tall but I would like to see some speed, spring, strength or agility.

Something that will make him difficult to play against.  At this stage we haven't seen any of these.

Would love it if he makes it.

It’s time

its time for Sam Weideman

we had hoped for a Hogan & Weideman forward  combo but tommy McDonald has taken the second key forward role

with hogan out for the rest of 2018, Weideman must step up in these next 2 rounds

he is ready. He can be the forward we need

give Sam the rev up and set him loose

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
