Why do we keep blaming Neeld for this?

It might have been Viney...Jack was certainly in the Toumpas camp.

...but whatever, I would love to know the true story on it and not the Neeld narrative that is continually thrown around here.

Because his french connectioned  decisions at our club our still being felt till this day.

That's why people will continue to have a go at him and rightly so.

Yep, not a fan either but to this day no one has proven that it was his decision to take Toumpas over Wines.

We can blame him for many things but this one maybe not despite the conventional wisdom on this site.

It may well have been Viney that made the call for all we know, Jack seemed to be a Toumpas fan.

Ollie Wines is indeed gettable ...

the Dees should take a close look.

If we're interested in trading out another first round draft pick, I hope to hell it's not to land Ollie Wines.

Damn, I thought Barrett would continue with Part 2 of his If/Then after last week’s carrot dangle.

Curious though, how many on here would take Wines right now?

I’d take wines for draft pick 3 in a flash... would be top 10 player, add a lot to our mid-field, low risk (as in proven quality) and would grasp the move as opportunity to reinvigorate career.

Only downside is how we’d then address the outside run issue and rejig the midfield to accomodate him.

Gawn tapping to a midfield group of Clarey Petracca, Wines, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes etc... would win finals for us.

Could we not trade Brayshaw? I know this comes across as being keen to off the load the guy, but perhaps a horizontal trade move (like for like) provides more of a benefit in freshening up the midfield dynamic between players. And a fresh change for each player at a new club. Could be win/win.

Otherwise there really is no market for Brayshaw in terms of finding an outside mid/forward that has the same trade collateral.

Gawn tapped to all those names bar Ollie Wines this year, how did it go?

Unless we have some serious plans to restructure our forwardline and wings, I just couldn't fathom why the club would want to bring in Ollie Wines given the current balance of the list.

It is a completely nonsensical move when looking at our weaknesses as a list in it's current state.

Hopefully Barrett is just filling in fluff for our column.

Would love Ollie playing alongside Jack? But there would be no chance at all?

Barrett make s*#^ up again

With the downturn in memberships next year and a fixture that will reward us for the mediocrity, maybe it makes business sense to actually bring in a big name signing, even if he's a type of player we are already filled with. Langdon, Tomlinson just may not cut it. I wouldn't trade out firsts of course, or split them, as I think the pick 3 player will also be a new signing that puts bums on seats early next year as we turn up to see how they perform.

IF we’re believing in anything Damian Barrett spews out... THEN we’ve all completely and utterly lost hope

Brayshaw was incredible at times last year.

Unless he is completely unhappy and there's been an irreversible fallout, it would be a very questionable move to trade him.

He's had one down year and is about to come into his prime along with many of his team mates.

It's more a case of the imagination operating on 'what if' scenario's, it's the whole point of the trade board really. I mean, if you've got better things to do...

Barrett is showing how clueless he really is if he thinks Wines is what we need and will solve our problems.

What is wrong with being known as a slow plodding team with no speed, outside run or skills anyway?

Most other clubs have got it all wrong.

I for one am loving the fact that we are devoid of the above and any X factor.

This is what defines us.  Happy to stick with good old MFC traditions and buck the trend.

There should be more Toumpas!

im laughing so hard GIF

A club captain who was out injured and had to wait for another player to become injured to get his spot back.

No thank-you.

P.S. Barrett is a ball-bag.

For a first round pick?  No.

For a second round pick?  No.

For a third round pick?  Maybe....

We don't need him, as we have enough of his type, and Port wouldn't sell him cheap.  There are other areas we need to address and this isn't one of them.

Watching last night I reckon the Bombers could use him better than us

Agreed, exactly what they need. So let's hope hope he doesn't get to them.

The whole point of working the trade board is to see who fits into the team. Just because theyre available doesnt mean you take them. Ollie Wines is just that. Grabbing another slow inside mid with terrible disposal is literally the last thing we need right now.

Gawn tapping to all those players that get sucked into the contest like bees to a honey pot. Would have the worst inside-outside balance in the comp by a mile second year in a row.

Our stoppage footage from this year was nothing short of embarrasing. Some of the quality midfields have those Oliver, Viney Wines types, but balanced with class players who can compete contested balls when needed, but have the smarts to hang back when fequired. Think Josh Kelly, Scott Pendlebury, Andrew Gaff, Dusty etc.

Stoppage balance is my main problem with this team at the moment and adding Wines at that price does nothing to rectify this.

Spot on, ADCAG.  Supporters at the moment want change, and rightly so, but it means we want the club to be keen on anyone and everyone.  That won't happen - we will be lucky to get 2 - 3 players through trades/free agency who will slot in as best 22 players.  We can't put time into every single player who might be looking at new opportunities.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
