Driving to Traralgon and got one of those pesky call centre calls. I said who is it and the caller said Clayton Oliver. I told him he was doing a great job doing a membership drive and our family were all dedicated Dees. He said awesome. So my prompt renewal is thanks to his yet again good work in heavy traffic.

We have added about 2,100 members in the last few weeks.

I would think this is from the good work the club did getting new members to sign up on Family Day and the ring-around by the players this week.

Perhaps a lot of the post round 23 disgruntled members have now re-signed.

I think it is the first time we have edged ahead of the figure at the equivalent time last year.  We might yet break last years record!

I don't think people would make the decision to re-new their membership based on one round.  I think the teasing aspect of 2017 some really good wins, but 5-6 really terrible loses that we happened to have one of those loses in R23.

There was certain people claiming the last round would cost us thousands of members - it clear they are wrong again - MFC supporters display their resilience again.

Not long now and we get rid of the negative old boys once and for all.

We’re still down by about 500 at the same time as last year.

Your’d think more would sign as it showed we are finals contenders now. Would they rather we not even come close?

It was additional members we were speaking of.

Have a look at the Essendon increase as an example of what a finals performance can do.

Nice analogy.

Really would expect a few hundred (or more) new memberships in the next few weeks and into the season from there. Success is a great accumulator in football and being on the bandwagon is very associative with that success.

Success is a great accumulator in life.

Some can reach it as a matter of mind set - some will never reach it even sadly if their life depended upon it.

Success can be defined by walking off the battle-field with two arms and two legs haven given your all ( self defined ) and be prepared to go again.

Elite performance is not about how intelligent your are it’s about how determined you are and the sum of the people around you.

We were finals contenders in 2016 and 2017 but fell short at the last hurdle.

Unlike us die-hard supporters on DL' some people will want more than hope and faith before committing.

Just being finals contenders won't stir many people.  Win a few finals, now that is something else.

There are still 7,000 members from 2017 yet to renew!

Hopefully, they all will but I'm not so optimistic about getting hundreds of 'New' members ie not a member in 2017, even if we do win early games.

What is there to get 'New' members to part with hundreds of $ for each member of the family?  Not many attractive games at the G.  Some unfriendly time slots.  People can get tickets to games at gate or days before the game.  Can't get 'reserved' seats without buying a 'package'.  The NT substitute games at the G aren't against the better teams.  All in all, not a great offer to get 'New' members to sign up.

We on DL dutifully pay our membership each year.  I always think of mine as a donation to the club.  But mfc need a lot more than us die-hards to join up and I suspect it won't be this year.

Nice one. I was going by the figure posted on 14/3 which was about 500 behind.

Did you bother to look at their 2105 numbers? You are comparing us to a bunch of drug cheats - LMAO

Essendon ?

2015 61,000

2016 57,500

2018 67,800 - Essendon make the finals

Melbourne

2015 36,000

2016 39,150

2018 42,250 - Demons dont make finals

So what is your point? You are wrong again - Again MFC supporters show their resilience.

I wonder what happened at the DRUG cheats in 2016?

Please stop insulting some MFC supporters there may have been other reasons the drug cheats got such a big growth and it has SFA to do with making finals.

What are you talking about??

you contradict your own figures. For the MFC after 160 years to have only 36,000 members on its books is a sad situation.

IF we had made the finals in 2017 and built some momentum we would have over 40,000 members now, before the ball is bounced in 2018

but the players choked and that momentum was lost.

So, on the other side of that same coin, if we're pretty close to last year's figure, that also means we must have about 7,000 new members. And that's about 20% of the current membership. That's impressive, although the non-renewal rate is equally unimpressive. The club needs to identify better ways to hold on to members - it should be easier to keep what you've got than continually finding new people to sign up.

Keep up the good work Cassie !! And I'll bet you're not even Irish. Most demonlanders drink to forget. For me it's worked. I've forgotten why I started drinking but I'm damn sure there was a good reason.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
