Pick 31 says more about Watts than MFC's ability to negiotiate. if there were more than one club seriously interested, they would have had to offer more than the other.  So Watts is worth 31 in today's market when not much else is on offer and many teams are crying out for a tall fwd.

I am very comfortable with the outcome and glad we can move on with 22 that will crack in every week (not saying Watts is soft, he is just not a competitive beast)

I think that's the bit you've got wrong.

Most teams aren't looking for a tall forward who doesn't crash packs or work really hard at forward pressure.

Teams are structuring up with 1 key forward who draws the footy and a 2nd taller option who crashes and bashes. Port are a little different because they want to move the ball with skill and Watts can fit in next to Dixon. Geelong had a look because Watts would go well with Hawkins. Most other sides have set ups that work for them. Look at the lack of interest in Schache

Who cares, Watts inability to lead by example both on and off the field was a cancer to this playing group. Didn't even average a goal a game for a 196cm key forward. Next.

Whatever the "criticism", it has been aired very publicly and as I said, JW doesn't deserve that.  Get the job done, sure, but don't publicly bag the guy.  Being told in public that in doing your job, you don't put in is pretty demeaning.

And if you disagree with this then you are absolutely kidding yourself!!! You can check all my posts re Jack Watts & I have always supported him....BUT...he definitely has not lived up to expectations for whatever reason & everyone has expected...hoped for more!! It is laughable to suggest we are kicking him when he is down...he has been the most scrutinised..maligned player by both media & public for nearly a decade & we have stuck by him...enough is enough ...he has had 9 years ...I will never boo him ...hope he does well but I have finally come to the realisation that it won’t be at the MFC....lets move on & start to look forward to look forward to 2018....2017 is done !!!

All the best Jack. Thanks for some good memories - especially the goal against 'Poor old Collingwood will Never" on QB this year.

Lets not start this again.

We don't trade him, he spends the year in and out of the side, he is worth pick 50 next year.

Goody is at the storm offices asking the best way to run a ball into the goals.

Watts had 35 inside 50's this year in 16 games.

Thats 2 inside 50's a game.

I don't think he was ranked in the top 200 players for inside 50's in 2017.

I don't think Geelong were interested at all.

They werent. Port were his only option, nobody else wanted him.

Wouldn’t have got close to pick 31 for him 2-3 years ago. The silver lining to this is that I will not have to suffer another putrid article on him that has a headline something like “watts up with jack”

Norm Smith, 4 time premiership player, 6 time premiership coach, 500+ goals

Jack Watts ....

Yeah I can totally see the comparison

I said I felt a BIT like I did when Smith was sacked.. Of course losing Smith was far more reaching than the sacking of Watts.

Read posts more carefully instead of making incorrect assumptions. And save your sarcasm mate, it's not appreciated.

Listen to the simpletons boo him next year, when in fact he loved the club and wanted to stay.

Club has no right to play the loyalty card when Trac and Co are offered big coin in 2019/20.

Like his old man said, we stuffed him and later stoned him.

Pick 31 or Watts?  Give me Watts.

We probably valued him at say pick 21 - 25, and there would be less hand wringing on here if that's what we got. But the club wanted to move Watts on, so do you really think that they'd backflip over 6-10 positions in the 2nd round of the draft?

Pick 31, shows that no other club was interested in Jack Watts and we wanted him out.  I hope the club has a plan we have 3 second round picks in what everyone that is more educated than us is saying a very weak draft year.

I certainly hope they didn't rush the Lever trade to spend close to a week to only fold on the Watts trade. Shocking.

They bent over on both trades. We're building a great reputation as a club that is more than happy to be screwed right there on the trade table.

Hogan needs to tackle
Oscar needs to crash packs
Petracca needs to get super fit

Hard to demand it from those 3 when they see a 9 year player and number 1 pick coasting through his career.

Port, Sydney, and Geelong were all interested. Watts chose to go to Port.

It shows to me that we are unable to negotiate appropriately at the trade table.

At the rate it's going, I won't be surprised if they throw away pick 36 (formerly of Adelaide) for Balic.

It all comes down to the salary.

If we are not paying a cent of his salary, pick 31 is all we could have hoped for.

We shot ourselves in the foot having him on $500k a year.  No wonder he was so comfortable.

It makes you wonder how much our spuds are getting paid when we don't have a bona fide star and Port can have Gray, Boak, Dixon, Hartlett, Wines, Wingard, Ryder, Rockliff and Motlop all on big money.  Wow.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
