Honestly, I think it will come down more to who pays his salary than squabbling over pick 25 vs pick 40.

Might well be something in that.

Which then makes me think the return to the club will be token.

All for what ?

Just don't know why folk can't accept there are a range of different views on an emotional and rational level.

Why is it that some of us simply cant accept these differences? We should be able to treat one another respectfully without the dismissive comments?  What we view as right and wrong is influenced by one's own personal perspective.

Most of the reasons on"keep versus trade"' Watts are equally valid. What weight you give to those reasons may bring us to different conclusions but most of the reasons expressed on this thread are accurate and fair..

Personally I would keep Watts on the basis of his 2017 season and because of his skills and what those skills bring to the team. I also think there are other players that I would trade before Watts. However, I also recognize that his lack of intensity and failure to chase is infuriating and at times, soft. I am as critical as anyone on this aspect of his game. His lack of defensive pressure does impact the team.

We all have our differences but no one on this site is smarter or better than anyone else.

Not sure you will get universal agreement on that one Ernest

Without hesitation we must keep Watts he is the link player to finish off he's not on much money I've seen a few other players that turned it up in 2017 what about the Brisbane game need Hogan to kick six and a goal on the final siren to win by 15 points and guess what Wattsy wasn't playing please have a good think about it we are sending a player to a possible final 8 Club that most likely will come back to haunt us what for a late 2nd or 3rd round pick someone will be laughing and it won't be Melbourne supporters believe me

I agree but how many other players displayed intensity against Collingwood we needed to win to make finals most did not chase so few tackles in the first quarter yet Goodwin sacks Watts were any of you at the last game so it was Wattsy's fault we never made finals give me a break

Can you please use punctuation... that really was very hard to read.

Reportedly is down at Geelong today and has been in a meeting with them for over two hours at this point and it seems very positive. Looks like he is off to the Cats.

They have picks 20 and 33. Can we get pick 20? Trading him for 33 seems like a loss to the club. 20 is acceptable.

Cats won't offer pick 20 why should they, it all depends what Melbourne have in mind can't see them accepting pick 33

My point RB was not about Watts but his comment about everyone on Demonland agreeing that all contributors are equal.

MFC have been working/shopping the Watts trade this morning.

MFC have inquired about Zac Jones Plus pick or player in exchange for Watts. Although this was not outright rejected by Sydney, Sydney indicated this was unlikely. Zac is a required player.

Did you just get this from the rumours page?

Anyone listen to Roos on MMM around midday? He said that Watts was given no indication in the exit interview that he was going to be traded. Apparently the exit interview went ok (not great) but he certainly didn't think it was leading to a trade. If true, then that's poor transparency from Goodwin on that front.

You did say his lack of intensity and chasing infuriated you, that's why i made that point

There is a great deal in that , if one cares to consider for a moment or two :roos:

Ernie, there's the "unknown" element as well - what he does when he's not on the field. The coaches and Leadership Group know this us supporters don't other than the snippets we hear here and there.

Agree, we never know the full story. Like the decision of a Court. We may read the judgment and take a view about it, but rarely sit all day in Court listening to the evidence.

Any chance you could be even just remotely more inventive? This exact thing was posted in the ‘trade rumours’ thread yesterday.

That is my concern. Watts reaction at learning that he could explore other options obviously came as a shock. So he has either misunderstood or misinterpreted what was being communicated or the club was not upfront or clear in its communication. In any event, the way this has played out in the public domain has been unfortunate.

Unless Watts' handling of his exit interview is what convinced Goodwin he needed to be traded?

I really hope that isn't true.

Because heaven forbid anyone has a life outside of Demonland and doesn't have the time to trawl through 100's of comments across multiple threads before posting an opinion

I read it on the Rumors Page and then directly asked to confirm or otherwise.

Exactly...Poor old Wattsy is even oblivious when it is all in front of him.

I wonder who runs his board short operation?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
