Nervous times though… he kicked a goal in the 2nd which took him to 99. But then nothing, absolutely nothing, the game had become a blowout (Coldstream were thrashed) and the ball rarely came into the F50. Because the year is printed on them they were only good for today’s last chance at getting the ton. Had Darcy been stranded on 99 there’s $1000 down the drain.

It was a surprise for him. 30 of us had them hidden ready to put them on before running onto the field. Balloons were released and a big congratulations sign was revealed. It was a huge occasion and quite the spectacle.

14 goals in the second half of they year. Six of those coming in two of our rare second half wins.

Definitely a proven correlation between us winning and Fritta hitting the scoreboard, bar the odd exception eg - 4 goals in the Sydney loss. Conversely 0 goals in wins over North and Dogs.

If we're to bounce back next year, Fritta needs to hit the scoreboard again as our forward line gels better when he's far more involved as that lead up forward that is hard to match up on. Think about his dominance of Sicily in round 2.

For that to happen, do we play a smaller forward line and remove one of Turner or Petty from the forward line? I felt as though once we settled on the JVR/Petty/Turner trio from mid season onwards, Fritta's output reduced significantly to the point where he was chasing kicks on the wing in the final game and looked a bit disinterested to be honest.

Thoughts on how to best utilise Fritsch and our overall forward line structure next year? 

the whole team sort of dipped in the second half of the year.

Hopefully with a fit and firing midfield he'll be more consistent

We have been too tall for ages. 

I'd play Fritta and JVR and maybe Petty or Turner as a forward. 
We made a huge mistake being so tall and also a huge mistake by not playing Bedford.

Bedford, Kozzie and Chandler should be rolling around with Kolt/Sparrow as the smalls/mids.

 

My 6 would be

Kozzie Petty Fritta

Kolt JVR Chin

The key thing for Fritsch is he can't be the main man we rely on. A skinny, non-tall forward. It's about time others step up.

JVR has to step up next season (took good strides this year).

And Petty has to be consistent as our main tall fwd.

When we play well, we spread and give the fwd line some space, he looks unbelievable. 

This is our best fwd line imo.

His first halves were atrocious along with Petty.

I would check their stats at half time and often Petty and Fritch would have 1 or 2 touches between them.

That's just not good enough.

Don’t forget about the great hope in Jeffo!

He needs to get back to making strong leads to space and not waving to players up the field to kick it 70 metres over the back

He was often our deepest forward, looked great when he got in behind the defenders and lead back to goal.  Opposition's are smart they just kept a couple of players behind him took away that back space and as soon as it hit the deck they knew there would be little defensive pressure from Fritsch.  He got lazy and just wanted the easy goal out the back.

To me his role needed to change, get him hitting up as a high half forward, then working hard forward.  He is extremely smart and good at ground level.

Unbelievably good player and I back him to return to his best.

I just hope our new forwards coach drills into him even a small improvement to his defensive work.

Fritsch Petty Chandler

JVR played very well as a forward, and commendably as a ruck, but this definitely detracted from his forward production and development.    Will Campbell alleviate this problem, or is he only a back up if Max were absent?  

150 games on Sunday. A great recruitment story.

Averaged 50 goals a season in the three years we made top four. Over that period I believe he was top 5 in the entire AFL for goals.

Kicked 6 goals in a Grand Final including the two crucial goals in a row to get momentum our way.

Had a down year in 2024 yet still kicked 41.

7th all time for the Dees in goals, needs 8 more to pass the Wiz for 6th.

Could do more with the pressure side of his game but honestly I think we're harsh on him as fans. 

Turns 28 this year. As a player who relies on skill and smarts, not athleticism, he could easily have 4-5 more strong seasons in him. Our Luke Bruest.
