What's the 'knock on him'?  Any idea what's stopped him being drafted the last few years or is he new to footy??

Didnt make Eastern Rangers in his draft year (2014?) as he was too skinny. He dominated junior league in Coldstream, then back fracture in 2015, then knee in 2016. So really this is his first chance to show what he has got.

He looks like a reasonably quick opportunist forward as well. If he could play the role of a small forward who is a great mark and kick then he'd be very hard to match up on

Yep like his style!

No from me he looks too slow. maybe a 3rd round pick or later. We need outside midfielders and a full back, he's neither.

So it's a no from me then. I think Hannan is a better player and he went 3rd round.

Nope. Finally saw him play and to me he looks a hell of a lot like Cale Morton. He's more physical, but that skinny build will hamper him.

Not having been drafted at 18 probably means he can build himself up in an AFL environment. What is great is his marking and kicking ability. He made a few AFL-listed guys look second rate this season. He won't shirk it either despite the skinny build.

I'd draft with a third or fourth rounder.

Seriously.

I still can't look at that photo without being weirded out.

It's like someone photoshopped Fyfe to be small.

He was only 3 years old at the time.

The kid can play, gets some amazing hang time and for a smaller bloke is a great contested mark. For those saying he isn't good enough, you obviously did not watch a lot of VFL games this year because he is insanely talented.

Put a couple of AFL pre seasons into him and when he fills out and puts on some weight he'll be a beast.

Plus there's one thing about being drafted to the MFC that a lot might not realise, is that the club primarily go for 2 apsects in a bloke (apart from footy skills) This isn't speculation, I heard this come directly from Goodwin at the start of the season:

1) They must have a huge want to play AFL and 2) have a great, friendly, likeable personality. Look at guys like Hannan, T.Smith and Keilty, came from tough pathways to get onto an AFL list (having to play VFL whilst working full time jobs) and have great personalities.

Fritsch fits those aspects perfectly.

Get him in.

Surely in the interests of diversity and heterogeneity within the playing group there is room for an insanely talented but curmudgeonly KPB?

He just won the VFL's "Best Up and Coming Young Player"

Something like the last 14 years, every player to win this award has been drafted.

I want rhe dees to rookie him.

And if  he gets injured i want to hear mison crack a joke and say 'he's on the fritsch'

Would have been nice if Goodwin had of told him to take it easy 10 weeks ago...

Our last skinny, high marking, great kicking game reader wasn't too bad. Put a pair of specs on him and he could be anything.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
