Need to get brother Andrew into a Demons kit sooner rather than later, their poor mum looks confused with all those scarfs on and none of them a MFC one ?

All is forgiven: โ€˜Very fitโ€™ Brayshaw pumped for 2019

It seems that these days there are no rules about approaching opposition playersย during season and even when they are contracted for more than a year ahead. It didnโ€™t worry Ross Lyon to approach Hogan and likewise, we should be keeping a close interest on Andrew Brayshaw over the next year or so and maintaining regular contact with him over how good life is with home and family in Melbourne.

I have wondered if Jesse was approached by Ross Lyon to save his (Lyon's) job at Fremantle on a promise of a contract extension.

If Ross talks to Gus, I'll fly over there and burn his bloody house down. Ross that is. Not Gus.ย

Seems like the media are already linking Andrew's performances to the red and blue.

The Demons on the other hand lost a number of players to injury in the clash, including versatileย James Harmesย who was sent to hospital with a finger injury.ย Clayton Oliverย was again dominant, suggesting he is in prime condition ahead of Melbourneโ€™s first match.ย Andrew Brayshawย (26 disposals and 11 tackles) andย Aaron vandenBergย (18 disposals and 16 tackles) also impressed around the contest.

Andrew looks like a very good user of the ball, would defo have him at the Dees - but having shifted Hogan, we simply donโ€™t have the WA-bred assets to move to Freo to get him

Freo didn't have the Vic-bred assets to get Hogan either...

Nothing in this world is static.

3 and 4 team trades can get those things done.

Both Brayshaw boys strike me as the loyal types, though, so I'm not convinced he'll want to come home.

Footballers want three things: success, money and footy mates.

Loyalty to a club would come a distant 4th, at best.

Jones must have had some seriously good mates at Melbourne!

Plus he would've been paid quite well

Coincidentally, Jones' contract is up at the end of this year. I wonder how much of a paycut he'll be taking. I'd imagine the club will be big winners fromt he sun-costs-fallacy here, where Jones is absolutely determined to make good on all the sacrifices and hardship he's already been through, and as a result does the team thing even more intensely.

Hmm, and I can't help wondering where we might find a reasonably young, say 22-23 year old, strong midfielder to replace Jones when he retires in a couple of years, y'know, post-premiership? :D

i can't help but wonder...if another club offers jones a three year contract, would he take it?

Hope he wouldn't, but I'd wish him well if he did. Certainlyย wouldn't begrudge him another opportunity elsewhere

No.ย

Jones would be backing himself in to play on.ย

If heย gets told otherwise by the club....

Jones is a 3x b&f and the current stalwart ofย the club, theyย will make sure he retires a one club player.

Like what Hawthorn made sure of with Mitchell and Lewis?

If it's in the club's best interest to win a premiership, they will make the appropriate decision.

That said, I don't expect Jones to be going anywhere.

It's a big year for Nathan.

At best he gets one year and at worst he gets tapped on the shoulder.ย  I suspect he'll get one year.

Jones is 5th in the starting midfield pecking order behind Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Harmes.ย  Those top 4ย can all play 75% gametime and that gives us 3x100% coverage in the square.ย  That means unless there's injuries to that top 4 he's not going to spend major minutes in there and like at the end of last year will have to make his mark in another role.ย  But it's easy to forget that along with Oliver, Jonesย carried our midfield for a considerable period at the start of 2018 when Viney was injured and Brayshaw and Harmes yet to emerge - it only takes one injury and he's back in the main frame.ย  There's not exactly a stampede of proven alternatives.

Jonesy will be 7th best mid for us this season if Salem and Petracca take the next step.

vandenBerg will go past him in 2019.ย  Bookmark it.

And obviously Kolodjashnij and Fritsch have been earmarked for that outside running role.

I think Jones is in a situation more similar toย Shane Crawford than the other ex Hawks players you mentioned.ย  I don't think anyone would be complaining if Nathan Jones career ends in a similar fashion to Crawford's.

I'd be quite happy for Freo to develop him as a footballer for a few years and for us to pick him up as a free agent in the prime of his career.ย

Sick of us giving up players and draft picks, it's our turn to pillage the lists of other teams and it would be sweet revenge to take him away from Freo like that.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
