North have a more successful history than most sides since the Carey era - they've played a helluva lot finals series since he was in his pomp; more than most sides I'd wager

I can't believe the money they're offering Dusty - average of over 10% of the yearly cap plus marketing money available

I wonder how they're structuring that $10.5m over the next 7 years:

- first two years overpay whilst their list is still developing
- next three slight unders
- last two years will be under the new cba; basically hoping like hell that rights to broadcast and revenue in the game continue to rise

it could be done but it's just SO MUCH money

Maybe.  He might still harbour a little annoyance at how his last contract was handled as well.

It sounds like the Tigers aren't exactly lowballing him in their offer though.  If a Carlton, for example, was offering the same money then I might understand the change.  But North are the worst Victorian club in so many areas that surely you would rather stay at Richmond than go there.

There is definitely more to this.

Dusty (via his manager) has been telling other clubs of his disappointment at how Richmond dealt with him over his last contract, with it being conveyed to both North and another club involved in the process that Dusty still has a few issues with Richmond. Whether there is any truth in his annoyance with the Tigers is another matter.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was no truth in his annoyance, but rather this being a story told to other clubs to drive up his price.

Martin has football now and very little to offer post football. He will not be a media person, nor will he be the type to land a good career. Therefore it would be smart for him to make as much as he can from his football career, to tide him over for the rest of his life. The contracts he is being offered will do just that.

I could see him going for the biggest offer, if it is way ahead of the next best one.

Is the money really worth going to a small, insignificant club like North?  He might give them a couple more wins but he is potentially giving up some serious success for some extra coin.

Makes little sense to me.

Serious success? Clearly you think more of Richmond than I do.

Random thought more than a rumour.

What are the odds of shaking Jack Martin loose from GC17? He hasn't really performed thus far for them, but every now and then he has a game that suggests he could be amazing if he gets his act together.

Any talk of Levi on the move? We need coverage for Pedo.

He would be amazing in the right environment.  ie.  anywhere that isnt Gold Coast

I would be raiding the GOld Coast Suns.   Cant blame players for not reaching their potential in that toxic, soul less club.

Great, all this thread needs is another Martin. Dustin, Stef and now Jack.

Thank Christ Ray, Steve, Pike and Short stopped playing years ago...

Will probably help run the family business in NZ post his AFL career. Can be quite lucrative l hear

He won't be able to run for Australian Parliament!

Petraccattack,It may not be the faullt of the GC club for being so called toxic. The Brisbane Bears(now lions) originally played out of Carrara(perhaps wrongly spelt) near the Gold Coast and that was a total disaster. The AFL may be pedalling sh.t up a hill on this one. Perhaps QLD can only have one AFL side due to the Rugby League and Union stronghold. You have to feel for the guys who are suppose to be successful as a team only to be disappointed by lack of results, self destruction of the club is well and truly on the "cards". There are people out there that refer to Essendon as Essendrug which I find strange due to the fact we have 2 so called drug cheats are on our books, cheats do prosper, they (Essendon) are in the 8 is proof. Going back to the Gc club, I believe that they should relocate to Southport (QLD) which has on of the biggest RSL club and an existing NEAFL team or which may be better re-locatind to Tasmania. North and the Hawks do play some home matches there. The side may hang on to their Victorian born recruits. Have a nice day and may the force be with you.(not police)

If (when we land ) lever does tom McDonald become a forward again? I honestly think he offers more up that end of the ground

Red, my guess is that no matter how much money Dusty gets, he'll pizz most of it up the wall within 3 years of retiring from footy.

I found this post on bigfooty from 10 years ago:

ah yes the 1% -ers       Thats 1% Brains !!

I can confirm from various credible sources that the MFC have entered into multi million dollar negotiations with a rival player.

That player is Zac Dawson.

Nathan jones has expressed that he will happily set aside and allow Dawson to be outright captain of the club.

The deal is expected to be 15 years and 45 million dollars and the AFL has allowed some exceptions to the salary cap rules to allow this, in the name of equilisation.

The likely trade would be Clayton Oliver, Jesse hogan and Christian petracca as well as our 2017/2018 first round picks.

I still honestly believe this is a steal given the quality of Zac Dawson.

Given this news the bookies have installed the MFC as premiership favourite for the next 15 years

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
