I continue to be surprised by posters who think their expectations of Watt's game is what predicates him being picked for the seniors.  He would have a clear understanding of what is required of him by the coaching staff and it is quite probably different to your expectation.  If he makes the seniors next week then he will have merited it!

I only watched the second half but thought his performance was quite solid, was cracking in and his ball use was above anyone else on the ground. Wasn't surprised he was named in the best players at all.

You don't have to be Nostradamus to know how Watts plays finals. His GPS numbers will dictate that.

Doe anyone remember the gut running goal on Queens birthday that won the game? If he is capable of running like that he will play in conjunction with Pedo in seperate roles.

Corey Maynard: He had 20 disposals, five clearances, 13 tackles and kicked a goal. After being the carryover player for the AFL team last week, Corey left off where he’d been in the past month to six weeks. His form at VFL level has been outstanding. On a day where it probably suited those players, where he is a contest player, he was quite significant, in and around the contest. Corey continues to take his game to another level, which is pleasing.

While JKH: "serviceable", Bugg "Buggy’s really going to benefit out of that and we should see him get some big improvements over the coming weeks"

There's clearly still a big step up from VFL to AFL.  

Many players have struggled to bridge the gap this year despite great form in the VFL - Trengove, Stretch, JKH, White, Wagner

I don't disagree that the gap is huge and I am not arguing that JKH should be promoted. I just felt it was underwhelming praise. 19 tackles is a huge effort at any level.

I was a regular at Sandy and Casey until a few years ago as I enjoyed watching our youth develop.  In the last few years I've not attended as many matches limiting myself to about 4 live this year and I think 2 or 3 on TV.

For those that are regular watches I'd be interested in your comments on the standard of play.  My view is the standard of footy at VFL level played by Casey, whilst effective, is awful.  I get surprised where I see a good chain of possessions, it's stop start stuff rolling maul school yard footy.  Too many players round the ball of too little skill to execute to a level that allows anything like AFL attributes to be displayed.

The standard when I watched us at Sandy and even in the earlier days with Casey was much better and enjoyable.  The game at Port was so bad and boring I left 10 minutes into the second quarter.  I just couldn't be bothered watching the rubbish being served up.

The game against top of the league Willy was a marginal at best.  Scrappy and dull. 

Am I the only one who thinks this?  And why is it?  Game plan?  The Casey ground.  The personnel?

Interesting point and from the 4 games I attended I agree in the main with your views. Certainly at the Port game Port played a much more open game.

My only reservation is that at VFL I watch from ground level as opposed to an elevated view at the MCG.

The Sandy v Casey game I went to was a shocking rolling maul contest - you could literally count the skill executions on two hands across the whole day.  Yes it was very wind affected so this was some excuse.

MFC play "outnumber at the contest and win it" and there's no doubt Casey are playing the same style (which is good), but when you factor in less skill and less fitness at VFL level it's a recipe for ugly games.

Depends on whether he was making tackles because (a) he was consistently beaten to the ball, or (b) he was throwing himself around like a man possessed. I didn't see the game, so have no idea which is the case.
