Maybe not, but Viney and Salem would be ahead of Watts to come in IMO, and Frost has played excellent AFL games this year. Watts is more so competing with Hannan, Harmes, Petracca and ANB IMO.

I would bring Watts in this week FWIW.

Agree with this. Out of those 4 forwards none of them deserves to be dropped. Reckon it might just be team balance and a bit of bad luck that keeps him out.

I would still bring him in on the wing, but the coaching staff know best (most of the times)

You can rotate Watts, Petracca and Hannan in the midfield which has been done regularly during the season. An up and going JW is better for the team and i think he has got the message.

How do you or could you know Jack has got the message

Surely we will only know when he takes the field again in MFC colours and performs

Well its an interesting point. Would Pedersen be getting these games if Watts was in better form? Playing forward and pinch hitting in the Ruck. Pedersen has it covered right now.

One think we all agree on is Watts doesn't play as a Key Position Tall.  You set up like Adelaide Hogan Deep, Pederson high and Watts higher working back.  There is no question Jack Watts should come in for Stretch.  Our 6 forwards

Garlett Hogan Hannan/ANB

Watts Pedo Petracca/Harmes

Hannan/ANB/Petracca/Harmes will also work through the midfield.

Collingwood have a small back line, you play Watts and if Howe goes to him run him out of our forward 50m

Definitely agree on that. Almost your Tom Lynch (Adel) type.

Its on the assumption that he is selected Jack. If he is not then he still has a problem, but his previous performance report does not indicate this.

What would be the difference between what Watts offered the 3 weeks prior to being dropped and the performances of Weiderman and Stretch over the past two week.  That is the key if whoever Watts replaces will he offer more to our side.  If we say Stretch there is no question

Agree Stretch didn't show enough to keep his spot IMO.

It will be interesting to see if this week he keeps his feet, tries to tackle and mark with two hands and just plays with general intensity.

Nah the interesting thing will be if he can get the ball often enough and deliver it well enough to make us a better side.

I legitimately think he doesn't know how.

Hypothetical question. Pedo has had his 2 best games in the last 2 weeks if bringing Watts back means Pedos game of the last 2 gets sacrificed as Watts will compete for the same ball does Watts stay in assuming Pedo is ahead of him atm

Guess what I'm asking is could Watts be kept out for balance and not form

I find it amusing that the media experts who maligned Jack, kicked him when he was down are now leading a chorus of commentators saying he is best 18/22, we need him for finals etc.  Garry Lyon, Wayne Carey and Damian Barrett leading the charge.

It just shows when push comes to shove they recognise his worth.

So often he has got us over the line with a goal, goal assist or goal save just before the siren.  He is a big moment player.

Cometh the hour cometh the man!  Jack is our man!

I find the hyperbol around Jack is media hype at its poorest.

Essentially Jack has contributed little to our campaign for the past month, and now has the opportunity to win back some of the respect/trust he lost during that period.

Is he best 18 or 22?

Well, this week he has the opportunity to add (or detract) from that claim.

The bonus of bringing Jack in for this game is that if he continues to struggle, it probably won't cost us our season, and we'd have time to replace him for the Finals.

Good luck Jack!

May the force be with you.

A very good article on Paul Roos in the HS this morning.  One comment that resonated with me was when he spoke with Jack Watts .....Jacks comment was "I just want to be treated like a human being" .  How in anger & disappointment some posters write such vitriol about Jack (in particular) .....even now it has been all about how Jack has to perform today even though Salem & other players have been dropped for not meeting the coaches requirements. I don't buy into the "he was a No 1 pick" scenario....today he is just one of our best 22.   I hope everyone backs him today against a club who nearly destroyed him many years ago & be glad that he wears the "red & blue" .

I agree but it was more so the people who ran the club who mistreated him and created a [censored] culture. It barely resembles what we have now, if at all.

After 10 pages in the Post Match Thread no-one has potted Jack.  I guess that means he played a good game, right?

I thought he was one of our better players - kicked a goal and started the chain of at least 3 other goals.  Laid some good tackles.  He didn't excel (no-one did) but he did his job today.  Its a shame most of his 21 team mates didn't.

I actually think he has a fitness issue

Was pretty serviceable, and kicked a good goal. Played his role.

Got a 6 on the SEN player ratings and was listed in the best on AFL.com which I agree with. Shame he had so many mates who were horrible today.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
