Patton out - SEN just announced

Do they mean a late out?

He has been named this week.

Conclusions:

- Just about it for Jack Trengove, sad to say.

- JKH has another season to prove himself. At least knows what's required.

- Weideman needs more than just one dominant game at VFL level. (Though wonder here if there aren't ongoing concerns with Gawn's fitness/injury issues, so we need Pedo who can ease the load a little. Might also be a comment on where Watts is currently at re backup ruck duties.)

I hope GWS are not lulling us into a false sense of security with their outs.

Yeah hes been named

THis might be yet another case of SEN getting something completely wrong.  Not sure why people listen to that trash.

This is the game that will show us if we have progressed significantly from last year, the team is down after last weeks loss. Now they need to all step up and win against a higher class opponent than we lost to last week, if we want to make the finals this year.

I don't know if you've used ladder predictor, but a loss this week (one of the hardest road trips in footy) and then winning the 3 remaning games still gets us 6th provided Syd lose to Geel & Adelaide, easily a 'significant progression' on last year.

May have got Patton and Cameron confused. Cameron is out with a Hammy

If we are a decent side, I think we win this against an out of sorts GWS.

Our key players have returned and had a few weeks under their belt, except for Jones, but he strikes me as the sort of guy who will just slot back in.

Time to put up or shut up.

Mark Stevens saying there's a rumour of hamstring concerns for Patton.

He's been named so I suspect they'll give him to the morning of the game.

Most rumours sorrounding late outs don't come to fruition so I'm planning on him playing.

I think you are sadly correct about JT.

As for JKH he has improved but at 22 despite his year off is no longer the new kid.

If we win this game we will most likely play finals.

Lets what this club is made of. Are we really hungry enough?

A pity for JFK that he copped the bullet this week.

Thought his 3 week stint (Rd 17-19) this time around was far better than his previous stint (Rd 5-7).

At the end of the day I guess he's not quite good enough.

We have gone from definitely out to hammy concerns. I'm going to run with yours.

Run with "definitely out".

Hannan and Hogan are both genuine forwards. My only concern is that we haven't replaced them with genuine forwards, so I expect Tommy Mac and Watts to play all day forward and for Pedo to swap with Maxy.

I do love that we've added 3 genuine street fighters in Vince, Jones and Maynard. Goodwin likes a scrapper.

I'd agree with the first two sentences - Jones and Vince come in  - they're still the pecking order - I feel he has a lot to give *and learn - he's clearly in future plans with the 1 year extension.

A Freudian slip there, BPP?

Happy with all the changes this week.  Trengove and JKH were always going to struggle to keep their spots, Hogan is the forced change and Hannan certainly needed the rest.

I like the choice of Pedersen this week as well, and you get the feeling had this been 2015 they may have just given Weideman some games.  But with finals on the line we need a bigger body and more experience out there, so Pedersen is the right choice.  Plus he gives us a little more flexibility.

Patton is exactly the sort of player who has had their way with us this year, so it's definitely interesting.

Good, strong, aggressive team that has been named this week.

One of the first things I look at when a team is named is the list of emergencies. I think this gives a good indication of how deep the list runs and this week I do not believe we would be losing much if the three emergencies were playing rather than the team we have named.

Stretch for ANB, Weid for Cam and Wagner for Harmes?

Added to that the players we also have injured or running around at Casey and I think the list has good depth.

JFK, Stretch, Harmes, ANB, Gus are all young, just give them a bit of time. Last year I would of said ANB only a VFL player, but has played some really good games this year, now needs to build consistency.

Jetta has become a rock for the Dees, but I remember his early years and thought he would never make it.

The team looks good this week and GWS have a few big outs, Dees just have to win!

Trengove with 0 tackles v North could be the nail.

Considering the sort of game it was, and with that last quarter when North got on top of the stoppages, it's a rather telling statistics. Final game in Melbourne colours unfortunately.

Maynard is huge for a midfielder from that video! Or will he spend some time back in defence as he looks like a defender next to Wagner? 1.90cm. Nice to have another taller-physique midfielder in there with Oliver.

I'm hopping Maynard plays in the midfield for most of the game, maybe not at first bounce but as he calms the nerves then off to the midfield.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
