When playing at North - hate his stupid run up, hate his flopping for frees, hate how straight of a kick he is for goal and I hate his stupid hair cut.

Now that he is pretty much going to be a Demon - the run up is perfect and genius, those free kicks are always there and he gets a poor run from the umps, he is a beautiful set shot and I wish I had a hair cut like his.

Nek minut Dees ruck coach shortens his run up for goal, umps don't pay him the obvious free kicks and gets made an example of by the match review as they try to stamp out flopping for frees one week and is reported and harshly suspended, cannot hit the side of a barn all of a sudden and gets a buzz cut at Salem's Salon in the preseason and can't mark anymore because like Soloman all his power came from his long locks of hair.

Because Melbourne.

It’s funny how that happens. There are several players over the years who I’ve really disliked, only for them to join the Dees and then they’ve become some of my more favoured players.

Remember that West Coast hard-nut who joined us about 15 years ago - I can’t remember his name (Phil?), but I used to loathe him, and then he joined the club and I absolutely loved him.

'Philthy' Phil Read!  Legend!

I felt the same about Garlett - hated his sheep dogging ways out the back of packs, then when he came to us I was happy to argue that he was a smart player who knew where the goals were!

Love anyone who wears the red and blue ??

Jeffy Garlett - I didn’t dislike him at Carlton, but I loved him in the red and the blue.

Jordan Lewis, Byron Pickett and Gary Moorcroft come to mind.

Bernie Vince is possibly my favourite ever Demon.

Melksham and Hibberd are also two players whom I used to dislike, who quickly turned it around in the affection stakes.

I still dislike melksham

Phil Read. The angry human thumb.

Loved a biff!

No way. Not possible to dislike the Melk.

That’s what the coach must think after the season he had and still didn’t get dropped.

Byron Pickett was one tough Hombre. Some of his hits were Brutal! Anyone got any handy footage?

I find it hard to dislike players we traded out. Jesse, Kent even Watts when he had that blinder against us in round 1 2019 I couldn’t bring myself to curse him. The exception is Scully. Can't stand him.

I tried to resist, but no... it was NOT Soloman, it was Sampson, Homer Sampson!!

Naysayers need to watch the highlight vids. Accused of being a one-trick pony but finds space, arms outstretched, and can kick them from all points. Moreover, plenty of roved goals and sweet snaps, and has greater agility than all of TMac, Weideman and Hogan. Also happy to see a couple of holding-the-ball decisions in his favour in that highlights package from last year.

Unfortunately we don't see those bumps and hits anymore.

Loved Byron.

Scully? Don’t recall him playing for Melbourne. My only memory of him is as a fringe player at Hawthorn.

Posted in the last 10 minutes fwiw.

If so, we obviously don't think we can get the Phillips deal done, or we prefer Polec as a player. Probably fair enough too.

I think Polec is more damaging with ball in hand.

Great post. Got a solid nose exhale out of me!

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
