Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Christian Petracca - Under The Radar

I will admit, after watching the under 18 highlights of Petracca, McCartin and Gus I was happy for the MFC to draft Gus and McCartin. Although Petracca was a ball magnet and good in close his disposal was a bit iffy for mine.

Im so so happy now the Saints went with McCartin.

As pointed out, Petracca does seem to blow a bit during games this season and he looks a bit stuffed sometimes when I watch him but then I realise this kid had a tough first season after suffering a knee injury followed by a foot injury upon his return during an exercise outside of football.

The most impressive aspect on his part is his ability to play to the game plan and do what the coaches ask of him. This kid is a game breaker and we have only seen it a handful of times but I can't wait until he is given licence to break every single game apart.

His balance and power combined with his skill and vision make Petracca one of the best talents I have seen come to the club in a long time.

He simply wows me now every time he goes near the ball and he's one of few that doesn't make me hold my breath when he possesses it.

Exciting times ahead watching the number 5.

I'm happy McCartin is at the saints.

The problem we will have with Petracca and Oliver will be keeping them for under a million per year.

Only a flag or two may stop that problem.

Many clubs will be throwing 7 figures his way .

I too worry about this.  Look at the deals thrown at Scully and Boyd, and they shouldn't even by tying Trac's bootlaces.  He will be the number 1 target for every club if/when he comes out of contract.

I completely agree with the OP and Petracca ranks 2nd in the AFL since round 12 for improvement in his player rating (behind only Dustin Martin).  TMac is 6th and Oliver 20 for the same criteria.

Biggest Rise Since Rnd 12 2017.jpg

I'd expect his rank in the AFL player ratings to rise very quickly too as he is the only player to have played less than the 40 games (32) that the ratings  are based on!

Gun.  In our five most important players.  They are Watts, Oliver, Petracca, Hibberd and Jones.

Would be an interesting thread (probably done many times).

I don't agree with your five, but it's a fluid and often changing measure.

Christian Petracca

Big wrap on a 21 year old that has promised a lot and come from nowhere.  He is the ultimate multi-dimensional-mobile-(who can play) tall.  His mind and hands are quick and sure ala Diesel and Mitchell.  Against Sydney, our brief midfield assertion coincided with him around the ball.  One touch and smart decision-making brought us into the game.

Overhead, he plays 8 inches higher than he is.  He takes the ball at the highest point with a vice like grip.  He can play a spine role if needed.

His kicking penetrates like few others.

His personality and strut lifts what was a group of inward-looking introverts (apologies Viney and Oliver and Co.)

Thank god St.Kilda listened to their dietitian, who still thinks the drafting of 'Subway' McCartin is an absolute success.

Thank god we didn't pay Hoges 1.5m per year for 10 years.  We will need every cent to keep the real deal.  Can we use Jordan Lewis's wage from 2018 and 2019 to fill his ashtray?

What we've had is a player who does all the ordinary things very well and then just teases us with some really good things - long goals, contested marks and slick handballs.

Quote of the year.

Sorry, I missed this thread and posted a new one stating that he is our most important player.

Jesus Fan, never thought I'd be agreeing with you most of the time.  Wish H was here to witness this.

?TGR!

I've watched footy over the last 50 years and there has been one player who would play well, but stood up in the big moments, often for only 10-15 mins a game, but in that period would usually kick 3 and create 2-3 goals, and turn the game - Carey!

The Demons haven't had a player like that over the last 50 years (Schwartz was going to be until the knee surgeries) but Petracca just might be the one!

Cant help think Trac is like dangerfield . Hopefully he has an injury free run at it and plays as an onballer 70% forward 30%. He is hard to take to ground / great balance explosive - strong over head although hasnt displayed any great leaping capabilities . Skills are great and most of all he is a natural .

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
