Plus it's our only chance to play at the G first up which gives us the greatest chance of winning. And after 11 years it would be nice to play a final at the G.

Pretty sure there's a Thursday night match as well. A lot depends on how many finals will be played in both Adelaide Oval and up in Sydney from a ground preparation point of view. 

I reckon the top 4 teams will get the prime time slots of Thursday night and Friday night and we might get the Saturday afternoon.

Yeah AFL said a few weeks back Thursday night would be Adelaide or Perth so without a Perth game it'll be Adelaide or Port who host the Thursday night... You'd think they wouldn't schedule back to back Adelaide oval games so one will be Thursday night and one Saturday, they won't make 1(Adelaide) v 4 on the Saturday because the loser deserves the longer break.. Your right I think the 2 qualifying finals will be Thursday & Friday nights for that reason.

My guess would be:

Vs Port Saturday night

Vs Sydney Saturday arvo

It can be just 1-2 goals depending on the points of both games if we lose. Dees could lose by 2-3 goals and Eagles just win and it would be enough

My guess would be:

Vs Port Saturday night

Vs Sydney Saturday arvo

They played 1 v 4 on the Saturday afternoon last year (Sydney v GWS).

The loser of that game (Sydney) ended up hosting its semi final on the following Saturday night (vs Adelaide, who had also played the previous Saturday).

It's impossible to work out the scheduling without knowing for sure where the four games are being played. A Richmond loss changes things massively (as it results in an MCG elimination final and likely takes away the second Adelaide final, with Port moving into fourth).

I dont know if playing sydney will be that bad... after a 0-6 start they have pretty much been playing elimination finals since round 7. This has to take a toll at some point and maybe the bye week off can disrupt their mojo. I can see Sydney letting themselves down all it takes us one poor game. 

 

Starting to feel like the mirror image of '87 where we needed to win and another to lose to make the finals.

In the world of reverse realities a la Steven King I wonder what happens. Will Jimmy run over the mark.

Perhaps Simon Eishold kicks the goal and Buckenara's kick is irrelevant.

At least Waverley cannot  be our Waterloo once more.

Of course we did play the Swans in that first elimination final in '87.

A wonderful day. Even my wife who was not a football fan came along to the MCG with me. Those were the days when you also took a nice bottle of wine (French of course) and some wonderful gourmet picnic treats from the not long opened David Jones Food Hall.

On the assumption that we beat Collingwood (fingers crossed!):

Hopefully Geelong beat GWS by about 15 points and Richmond beat St Kilda by about 15 points, which would mean a Geelong (2nd) V Richmond (3rd) qualifying final. Why is this good for us you ask? Because if we were to somehow beat Sydney in week 1, we would be 1000% guaranteed an MCG finals for week 2.

I'm not even thinking about the dream result of Richmond losing to St Kilda. They'll surely be too professional to screw up a top 4 chance.

If all results go according to the odds this week, my educated guess for the following week 1 schedule.

Thu night - Port (5) V Essendon (8) - Adelaide Oval

Fri night - Adelaide (1) V GWS (4) - Adelaide Oval

Sat  - Sydney (6) V Melbourne (7) - SCG (game to start at 3:20pm)

good point but I have always thought that the Doggies win last year was more luck than ability.

Good luck to them but I cannot see it being repeated anytime soon.

On form we are above the Bombers and on a par with Port. The rest of the 8 would go in as favourites against us. On the other hand a number of our players could just decide to "click" in September.

Doggies just strung together their best footy when it counted, you could say they for sure where not the "best team" in 2016 just played their hearts out when it mattered most.

Shame its unlikely to be in Melbourne - would love to have gone and seen our supporters come out of the woodwork.

Who would we play the following week ... I think it would be the loser of Geel vs Rich a the G? We had both teams on toast earlier in the yr.

As an aside, its been so long since we made finals I couldn't recall the ticketing arrangements until the club sent me a timely email.

I've got a business meetings in Orange NSW from the 5th to 7th of Sept. I've been holding off booking the flights for a couple of weeks now due to our season.

If we get past the Pies, I'll be right to stay over in Sydney for a couple of nights extra.

Or, fly out to Adelaide on the Thursday arvo on the way home if we face Port.

I can't remember being this excited for a game of footy.

 

About 4 goals but it depends on the losing margin to Collingwood, IF that was to happen. Tomorrow wont be easy.

As I said earlier in the week, and got shot down by most, WCE will beat an undermanned crows team. Talia and Walker are now out and watch Sloane and Jacobs pull out on Sunday morning.

Tomorrow is our biggest game since 06.
