Great call, RaBe!

Apparently he wants to stay at Port but Port may value the high compensation draft pick they will get for him and let him go.  http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/port-adelaides-mr-fixit-jackson-trengove-could-face-an-afl-freeagency-dilemma/news-story/4d3f0472ae39ab356ddfa29d8bdcb128

The article mentions Demons, Essendon and North as clubs who might make an offer he can't refuse but then Hawks and Cats also need a key defender so there may well be a bit of competition for Trengove.

I would love to see us be on the receiving end of attracting a good FA.

And I reckon he is almost as good as May and as you say offers an on-ground ruck option.  He would also be our second tallest player behind Gawn.  And we desperately need talls around the ground.

With the CBA we have the sal cap to substantially front end his contract and we keep our draft picks.

I say get him!

Trengove is more than serviceable as a ruck man. He held it down for Port last year. Would be a good back up for Gawn. Gives us an option for Gawn to rest down back - swapping wtih Trengove, or up forward - swapping with Watts.

I wouldn't give anything more than a 1st round pick and a fringe player JKH and we receive a 2nd round pick, I'd be happy with that very fair exchange.

If we're in2 May big time, Trengove to come at the right price not overs.

He's a club captain and one of the best key defenders in the league behind Rance and Talia. We pay a first round pick and get him across. We have enough young talent to build around. We need leadership, mature bodies, mongrel. Our biggest hole at the moment is a quality key defender. We are getting destroyed by oppositions tall forwards every week. You have to pay to get quality. First rounder for May is fair. Take it and laugh all the way to the bank. He'd help us become top 8 straight away and give younger talls time to develop at Casey as they should be.

Trengove would be a great pick up. Would almost prefer him to May for his versatility.

Side note, the surname Trengove looks weirder every time I look at it.

Apparently May is "planning to start contract talks with the Suns in the next three to four weeks" and wants to focus on his performance.

As captain the Suns will offer him an attractive longer term deal. If the deal doesn't get done then and negotiations stall he is likely to be out the door.

I guess we will watch this space in a few weeks time ...

The collective Power defence are traveling well under the radar this year as well. Conceded the least points against by quite a staggering margin. And I haven't seen enough of them, but they seem to be running a high press and zone like ours. We would all love a big traditional full-back, because it hurts to watch us repeatedly giving up goals to the big forwards, but the reality is we off-loaded Dunn for free, and it's likely we'll be looking for mobility and someone who can slot in with our direction.

Agree LT, looking at this draft, there aren't too many that pop out as being 'great' players. Go after May or Lever and get a short-medium fix for our backline.

Great logic.  We need key backs so we'll trade away the ones we have.  Brilliant.

Bwahahahaha!

You don't like them but seem to think they are worth something at the trade table.

Yeah sure, why not!

Classic.

No personally me I'm not a massive fan, I'm sure there are plenty on here that aren't a fan of them. But does that mean I think they have no value at the trade table, no, they have plenty of value! And that's why I'd trade them.

Twist it any way you want fella if that's what makes you feel better. Lol...

You can't have your cake and eat it too.  If they are underachievers then the Suns will have zero interest in them.  We can't claim they aren't much good and then expect other clubs to cough up something good to take them off our hands.

5 yr deal for May for $600000  per year.

offer 1st round plus jkh.

I'd be furious if we [censored] away a first rounder.

If we're not gonna go for a seasoned pro and pay up for him, I want us to look further afield and take a punt. Someone like Sam Day who woulc come cheap possibly, given his injury history.

You would be furious trading a first rounder for May? I'd be furious if we didn't jump at an offer like that.

He would be in the top 5 tall defenders in the competition.

To each their own. I don't have him rated that high. Plus I don't like the idea of going two years with only one pick in the first 2 rounds.

Draft picks intrigue me.

For all the hullabaloo they often are far less valuable than given. Now that the fwd picks can be 'marketed' a new dimension is created but imho the underlying and only true value of any pick is what you as a club gain from it.

The focus needs to be on the list, and the type of player, if none specificly ( player) in mind.

What is your need ?  A lot of discussion goes into this kid or that or the depth we need etc etc. The reality is neither of those qualities or metrics affect a game. What does are those ready ,capable and suitable on the day.

So , if we have a need now, especially an urgent KPP type hole on the team sheet , youd be foolish not to spend the required and available currency ( picks) to get him.

Bird in the hand stuff. There are many avenues to get players , either the project types or kinds naturally need longer development time but the ready to go gems need pouncing on.

I would say historically the so called golden early picks often go bust ad much as they prove worthy. They are a risk (high) and are proof that all that glitters is not gold.

Im all for spending picks on a known entity, esp when it fills a bloody big hole. One that causes us losses.

A no brainer for me. Other players will come along , just like the next bus or train.

MELBOURNE...get a bloody Full Back !!

How does JKH make the deal any better?  The bloke has zero currency.

I look forward to the day when we don't assume our average players will be the difference in a deal like this.  It won't happen.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
