Jesse Hogan's Return

Featured Replies

All he needs is a couple of good touches early and you know he's in for a good day. Massive confidence player but gees he's a gun! Goal kicking was on point today too.

Really helps when we lower our eyes as well when we deliver the footy. Kudos for ANB for being a deadly kick inside 50!

There were some who last week wanted to start him back at Casey . Even some who thought Weideman should play this week while Hogan played at Casey.

Great idea guys!

Wasnt really surprised by his bag today. (was very happy for him though.)

He flies under the radar. Last year we saw what he could do and expected a breakout year this one. But health and other issues saw him sidelined. The media have forgotten what a true  star he is.

Nice BMW R1200GS :)

Don't think there was one person in the ground that didn't want it for him today. Well done Jesse!

Article on Jesse's return today. I especially liked this bit, regarding the club's attitude towards everything he's gone through this year.

"Hogan said he would have found it difficult to pull through if not for the support of the Melbourne Football Club and his teammates.

"The club was extremely caring and were very cautious to what I needed – whether I needed space or whether I needed to be around the boys. They couldn't have done any better, in my opinion.""

As much as I hate to say it, Jess needs to take a break away from the game until next season. We all love the boy, but clearly wasn't ready for a return.

Interesting......  :roos::laugh:

Good to know, what any workplace should do...

Tell him you want him back as soon as possible because he's a very important part of the team.  Tell him he'll be straight back in and the harder he works the quicker it will be.  Give him a reason to be enthusiastic about his recovery.  Make him feel wanted, not a failed product for 2017.

Don't put him out to pasture and take away his motivation.  Tell him he can be part of something really special and finish the year on a high and achieve with the team.

Give the kid something, don't take it away.

This was a great post.

"That's why I will delay announcing my decision to join Freo until after the season. I want to show them that I am very caring too."

Yep, i'll admit i was a little bit in the doubt camp, and i will publicly apologize here and now for that. I guess i put it down to being stupidly impatient and a little bit ignorant. All forgotten now and by jingos he looked a very warmly loved member of a good team no matter what happens this week.

That was his best ever game.

It would have been seven goals if not for the one he gifted Brownlow at the start of the game.

I see what you did there.

Anyone else notice he had his good shoulder strapped, just like Lin Jong did in the VFL Grand Final last year?  Dunno if any of the Lions fell for it, though...

In the article he also says:  "When I did it (broke the collarbone) I thought it was like a 12-week injury and I was pretty flat," Hogan said. I saw the surgeon the next day and he basically said, 'You'll be running in four days, playing in two weeks', which kind of surprised me...He (Oppy) happened to be a Dees supporter as well, so he was pretty keen to get me back out there."

'Oppy' deserves a medal for giving Jesse the motivation to work hard and get back, which he did in very fine fashion.

Two milestones for Jesse yesterday:  Played his 50th game and kicked his 100th goal. :)

In every way a great day for him.

He has had his right shoulder strapped in every game since he made his comeback vs Carlton.

Pic from the North game when he did the collarbone on the left side.

Barrie.  Just as well that Collingwood supporters, players  and staff are illiterate - they still won't know by next weekend !

Indeed!  If I remember correctly, think it was Dunny who was one of the stooges targeting Lin Jong's good shoulder due to that being the one with the strapping in last year's VFL Grand Final.  I'm confident he won't have learned!  LOL

Some Demon supporters have doubted this kids talent. LOL.

Must be on drugs.

I never questioned his talent but I questioned his style of play many times.

As someone else mentioned, he attacked the ball and didn't just stand and wrestle like he has been for over a year now.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
