JKH had 7 tackles in his first game and struggled in his second game (1 tackle) and was pathetic in his third. He certainly gave us better forward pressure than Kent against Richmond though.

True, but I guess my point was that a Dean Kent zero tackle game is far and away better than a JKH no tackle game.

Having said that, Kent averaged less than 3 tackles a game last year and he needs to do better than that for us going forward.

Kent for JKH is an improvement.

I have no idea why Stretch remains outside the 22.

This is going to be a tough game regardless, but if Hogan's out and we have to play an out-of-form Weideman in his place, it could get very ugly.

I guarantee Stretch will be in next week if Bugg doesn't perform.

That seems to be what our team is like week in week out.

For 3 quarters of a game we are rolling a 5 or a 6.  It's the 1 we're rolling in that other quarter that's killing us.  We've won 16 of 28 quarters played, which is 4th best in the comp, so our consistency isn't that bad.  We just need to eliminate that one poor quarter and we'll be right.

How often has he actually played a tagging role for the club?  I wouldn't have thought it was that often.  In fact, these days we rarely tag a player at all.

I'm not too sure what Bugg actually does.

He 'Bugg's' the opposition.

I'll see myself out...

Rove McManus ladies and gentleman...

He hasn't even been a pest lately either. He had a good run around the Richmond game last year, being that [censored] that opposition supporters hated, annoying opposition players and playing quite well.

Now he's just... who knows.

Everbody talks about teams coming out after a bad week in the press. Hawthorn got belted in the papers last week jst as we have this week. I want to see some effort from the team leaders. We need to show the football world we care and can bounce back and take it right up to Adelaide. Go dees

I was kneading my mull and I heard wise in my head re the Kent and I had to say to the men of the land that it's not that hard if you don't inhale cause we've seen him him look intense and powerful and explosive and shifter but it was for a moment and such is the angst of the goody that he can't get him to explode across a game and so penance at casey seems logical and now ... Can he learn.. Does he want it bad enuf.....

Lever and Tom Lynch (concussion test tomorrow) both out would be good for us.

Kent a massive upgrade on JKH.

Billy Stretch should absolutely be in the team, we need his run and carry and foot skills.

Watch his last game before dropped, read the feedback from Plapp and you will understand why he is back there working on his game. He actually wasn't running and carrying he was slowing our play hence that is why he is working on it in the seconds. I would have him in before Bugg but the reason is pretty clear.

That's easy for you to say.

Very interesting stat that.

Certainly our best is far better than it has been for many years, and our worst isn't nearly as bad either.....most of the time.

Those very costly lapses have cost us probably 3 wins (+/-) and are indicitative of a young inexperienced team.

I just can't see us winning without a recognised ruckman.

We managed against Bellchambers, who is no good.

We got hammered by McEvoy, who is average.

So not looking forward to seeing what Jacobs will do, as he is good.

We just look like opposition talls are going to clunk everything against us atm.

That is doing a disservice to Pedo, spoke to him today, looking forward to having a real crack at Jacobs

McEvoy did what?

McEvoy did what?

Kicked a couple of goals. Took a few strong marks around the ground. Got a few kicks and handballs.

He also got 53 hitouts.

Hitouts of themselves are often useless but hitouts to advantage are where ruckmen earn their pay. There were a few in there that enabled Hawthorn to walk the ball out of the centre clearance and goal. Untouched by us. That is critical stuff in deciding the outcome of a game.

Now while Pedo toiled manfully, against a recognised ruckmen McEvoy doesn't get anywhere near that level of influence as he can't dominate through size, experience & technique. But he dominated Pedo in the ruck.

Forest Demon is right to be concerned about what Jacobs might do as he is one of the premier rucks in the game.Possible AA this year. McEvoy, as FD pointed out, is average (at best).

I've no doubt Pedo will try his hardest and will hopefully do some damage drifting forward but in the ruck contests, we are bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Got about 60 odd hit outs to 16 or thereabouts.....but our man Pedo is trying his guts out. Good to see.

Just curios why Kent gets in before Kennedy, both play a similar game and Kennedy has been playing better back at Casey. I think Kennedy also brings more defensively which is why Kent got dropped to begin with

I actually should have put a disclaimer in that Pedersen and Watts, and even TMac, have battled well in the ruck, I am a Pedersen fan.

But Pedersen is a good 10cm shorter than othe rucks. McEvoy floated forward and got his hands to a lot, which directly and indirectly led to a lot of scores for Hawthorn.

I actually think TMac rucking more last week left our back 6 a little unsettled in the talls department. Goodwin tweaked it at half time and we improved, but I would expect TMac to stay down back full time tomorrow night.

He played his best game yet this year.

But you wouldn't see that, because you don't allow yourself to.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
