Hogan out now makes this a real blowout danger. Sort of hoping we say screw the tall options and just put run in. Weed will get slaughtered by Talia. Real shame this.

Was it confirmed that Weidemann was injured in the game I think against Freo? He was jogging around with leg strapping. It's the only positive I can take from the situation of Hogan missing and perhaps Weideman playing a more fit and firing game than before.

Weid and ANB travelled. Weid hasn't regained any form in VFL yet so it would be crazy to bring him in.

Go small in forward line. Give ANB the tagging job on Laird. Watts leading up at CHF. Petracca from goal square. Hannan also deep-ish with Kent and Garlett hanging around. It would require a fairly significant change in the way we have been taking the ball into F50 (no long bombs) but our recent strategies have been working appallingly anyway.

On the Adelaide board on bigfooty they were worried about being too tall and slow in the forward line. Let's go for broke with a small and fast team, play with dash, take risks from defence. I think its the only way we can win. Oh, and tag Sloane with Vince!

no chf, no ff, no ruckman, no 2nd ruckman. other than that, everything looks rosy

Change the Rosy to Roosy and maybe we would have won at least 2 of the games we lost. Not saying Goody isn't a good coach but just saying at selection and on match day who knows ?? A couple of results might have gone the other way!

Agree season teetering on the Abyss!! Rotten luck plus lack of x factor a key!

Hogan officially out

5f604550-19bd-4476-a00e-6c554e003242_800

JESSE Hogan has officially been ruled out of Melbourne's clash against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night through illness.

Hogan missed training on Thursday and the Demons gave him until this morning to prove if he was fit to fly out to Adelaide.

However, the star forward was a no-show at Melbourne Airport on Friday morning and the club confirmed he would not play on Friday afternoon.

Half-forward Alex Neal-Bullen and tall forward Sam Weideman were the travelling emergencies and the Demons will make a decision on who comes into the line up before the game on Saturday night.

...and yes I always trust your mail 'Pennant', unfortunately on this occasion.

Looks like being one of those years.

Not even close 'picket', last year we got smashed by the Cats with master coach Roos.

Goodwin had us well on the way when Max went down.

I would've presumed that Talia would go to Watts, then possibly to Petracca when Watts goes in to the ruck.

There's a reason why Rance went to Watts first when we played Richmond, and that's because teams know how important Watts is to a competitive Melbourne.

I reckon for Crows Talia gets the heaviest, best contested mark. Lever (if he were fit) is an intercept mark guy. I'm not sure of the stats, but I think Weed might already be heavier than Watts. Just checked... yup, he is by 1 keg. I reckon Weed is a bigger threat on the lead for the high ball. They'll know that.

I hope you're right though. Watts will go up the ground a lot. One thing about him this year, he's been able to shake a lot of close attention with his variety of roles. Hard to tag a guy when he goes into the centre circle for ruck taps.

Even before Hogan was out, I felt like we were going to get poleaxed.  They have absolutely smashed all teams at Adelaide Oval this year (GWS, Rich, Ess) and controlled the Port game.  Now that Jesse is out, if we get within 7 goals we've done ok.

Tomorrow night was always going to be difficult but I was hoping the effort would be there all day. I still think the boys will give it their all but what little air I had left has just been sucked out of me with Hogan missing. Can someone please make me feel better?

In two days it'll be over.

Hogan out hurts, but this game will be won or lost in the midfield.  If we can move the ball like we did in the third term against the Hawks then we, at the very least, give ourselves a chance.

I'm one who hopes we bring in ANB for the extra run, stick Petracca at full forward with Jeffy at his feet and let Kent, ANB and others do some damage with their pressure.

If we start kicking it long to a contest all night then we are no chance as they'll pick it off every time.

Could this be our  "against-the-odds-Hogan-out" win for the year........?

Geelong 2015

Hawthorn 2016

Adelaide 2017???

Unlikely, Max was BOG in both 15 and 16.

Is it too late to tip The Crows by 10 goals?

This will have to be our line-in-the-sand game if its to be much better than that.

I keep telling myself "enjoy your weekend, dont watch the game"

7:20 will come along and I'll be in front of the tv getting angry... sigh

shows you how interested I am in this game... thought it was in the afternoon... oh well at least we are not on FTA

In a perverse way I hope we lose by a respectable margin.. there is something in me that would not react well to a five point loss!

I may have high expectations but expecting Weed to have a 22 possession, 14 mark, 5 goal game. I know he'll only be playing on the best full back in the league in Talia....but....

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
