Aliir Aliir, as has been mentioned, would suit our system to a tee.

I reckon we could play Aliir Aliir, Tom McDonald and Sam Frost in the same backline, as long as a wise head like Lewis, backed by Jetta and Hibberd.

A good mixture of experience, pace, height, good ball use and offensive-mindedness.

Jones has improved, but would much prefer Aliir and he suits our needs a lot better.

Zac Jones is a solid and still developing footballer with some upside, but I think our priorities lie elsewhere.  Some outside class and a forward /ruck should be high on our 'want list', and I doubt that we would be interested in Zac, despite some sentimental attraction.

Just read that Sam Reid is out of contract at the end of the season as well. Some KPF help for Jesse would be great while Weid develops

Yes for Zac Jones. As for Aliir don't think he would leave the swans. Sam Reid has had a lot issues with injury's in the past so it would be at great risk if we were to take him.

Not a great kick.  Bombs it quite often, but early on so did Nate so that can approve.

Tbh, if we get him for a third round pick sure.

He would be far more expensive than a third round pick, even if he nominated us! A third round pick is speculative and he has a solid 150 game career ahead of him.

Even accounting for a discount because he's being squeezed out for salary cap it would still take a pick in the late teens or early 20s and late pick exchange in their favour to give them some more academy points to get them interested.

Reid is an absolute gun. He should be target no 1 for us. Reid is the real deal. He is every bit as good as the best forward in the league IMO.

He has an X factor together with an excitement factor... MFC need that along with a good team.. perhaps I am still dreaming of that magical player

Clayton Oliver or Jayden Hunt don't float your boat then?

I do hope your tongue is firmly in your cheek, he is wildly inconsistent and soft tissue injury prone like his brother

Providing he plays the year out strongly and his soft tissue injuries are behind him then I think he should be our target. His inconsistency can probably be put down to injuries. Hasn't had a real solid run at it. So far this year he has been Sydney's best forward. Reid is a serious talent. He would be a great get IMO.

I feel he is quite highly rated by Sydney who took him early in the draft and signed him up for an extension very early on.  He's a significantly better player now than then, so if they're letting him go, the salary cap situation must be pretty dire.  He's finding the ball a lot more this year and his disposal, while at times sloppy, is also improving.  Nathan was a bit of a butcher by foot early in his career if memory serves correctly.

Would take him at the Dees.

Enough employment of the crap brother. We've had plenty of crap brothers...Ottens, Cockatoo-Collins(s), I remember about 10 years ago I made a list of about 10 who had fantastic brothers from other clubs, and we recruited the dud...

I have said for years that if there is a dud brother or relative floating around, they will surely end up on our list.

Being the second best footballer in the Jones family certainly doesn't make you a dud.

Zak is tracking a similar trajectory to his brother and has improved a lot in the last 12 months. While there is definitely not a need for us to take on another inside mid, he has reasonable pace. Definitely a yes from me at the right price, which it would be.

Apparently could be squeezed out due to the big signings of Mills and Heeney. Reported here that potentially St Kilda and North are interested.

Surely if he wants to return to Victoria then we'd have to be front runner. He is exactly the player we are after in terms of speed and hardness. Been really impressed with him this year after i was bit hesitant watching him last year.

Gee wiz, MFC attracting a player with speed has been the:

- exception (Garlett)

- not the rule - (Vince, Melksham, Lewis, Tyson....)

Stretch isn't doing enough at this early stage, and Garlett doesn't line-break through a defence; but rather Garlett is great out the back.

We have over-dosed on inside strength, and have an under-supply of line-breaking outside speed from D50.  Jones will be considered, irrespective of family.

I like him, but we have a lot of what he brings. What we'd have to give up for him makes it probably not smart.

Aliir Aliir would be amazing. Or Lever even better. Neither will be let go though.

A few have mentioned Aliir Aliir, can't even get a game for the Swans. What's so amazing?

He's out for Swans cos he's underdone. Been all over the media. Last year watching him play for them he was great. Intercept marks, spoils, always went to the right spots. And was a half decent rebounder too. Also wasn't error prone like you see defenders sometimes. Composed. He's awesome, you watch. Only debuted this time last year.

Another great game from Zak on the weekend. His price is skyrocketing. Dees could easily accomodate on a wing. (Hunt, Viney, Z Jones). His toughness, ballwinning and skills are very good. As good as(if not better than) Isaac Heeney IMO.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
