A pretty meh interview imo. Essentially repeated the same things he says in most of his press conferences.

When asked whether we could 'win it' he responded by saying that if our time is now we're going to give it everything we've got.

Confirmed that Jones was pizzed off something fierce when told he'd be sharing the captaincy.

Hogan had plate inserted on Sunday - expect him to get up in good time.

Figure the interview will be up on the club site eventually so won't bother with any other detail.

Uninspiring interview really, not much insight. Trotted out the line about the past being irrelevant when asked how on earth one team can have the wool over us for 17 straight matches.

Gotta wonder, how do you improve on mistakes from the past if you choose to ignore them?

Tis pretty straightforward - it is advisable to look back over the last 2 seasons (arbitrary figure) - and not beyond - a) because of where his tenure began  b) because the personnel has changed significantly  c) the game has evolved and d) its the best 'motivational' line for  the players, so they are not bound by their past anymore, so that they can make potential errors, which end up being positive risks (kicks on the 45 etc etc).

By no stretch does that statement infer the need not to reflect on strategies etc about previous meetings with North.

The reality is this, each game, of each week, is an opportunity to further, or reduce 'the brand' 'the style' , 'professionalism' (whatever language we wish to use) of how the players want to go about it - as spectators/supporters - we love to buy into the feel of positivity - think about when we beat port - and loathe the discomfort of a loss - yet whether we win or lose, each is a game that we need to back up from. 

The only thing that essentially talks the truth of a football club is what transpires for a couple of hours on the field. Just about everything else is smoke,mirrors ,spin or just plain rubbish imho.

Stopped watching pressers and interviews a long time ago. Formulative claptrap.

Yep. These past three years are relevant cos he had been party to those loses and we are still getting out coached by Scott. FFS we should never have lost that game. Out coached. Which is a shake as I think generally Goodwins coaching and ability to adapt had been exceptional. 

goodwin's consistency in his messaging is totally out of the crowbot playbook

fortunately we don't play like neil craig's football side; they were good, but they never made a grand final

Yep. Thats it. Unfortunatley  Goodwin sounds like a politician at an electoral parade. I supose he has to though.

Goodwin is innovative but needs to seriously look at our drop off in contested ball Can Todd Viney don the red and blue again !!! Injury has crueled us but still think we can beat GWS

Yep got to agree, Goodwin is a spin master. Has done well this year but some things are just crazy, like team selections at times, Saturdays game, match ups on game-day and game plan ie- delivery, bomb long into fwd line. He is the right man for the future though, will give him benefit of doubt in first year, next year no excuses. Sick of hearing about the journey, behaviours and habits and other crap.

Gotta love the Journey. One thing that [censored] me off greatly on Sat was the refusal to use Watts as a spare back reads the game well wasn't influencing the game forward and can take a grab and is effective in this role. The amount of times NM found Brown on a lead was ludicrous massive fail for Goody on weekend.

He couldn't have picked a worse week to appear, had it been 7 days ago the posters above would all be saying how impressive he was and how we're in good hands. BTW, I still believe that we are.

He was definitely listening in Roosy's seminars on "How to say a lot without actually saying anything". PR was the master.

He's drastically out of form this could have played him back into pre hammy form.

It's still important to acknowledge the past though especially when one club is celebrating its success over you. There's no way Clarkson didn't bring up Geelongs wood over Hawthorn before they met in the prelim a few years back. We can say the past is irrelevant and broadly it is but specifically on how the opponent view us, it would have given them extra incentive to win, to maintain the success over the club. Why wouldn't you use the fact North has bullied us for a decade as extra motivation? I just don't understand the logic. It's also condescending to suggest it's irrelevant. It's actually not. Perception means everything, really, and the North and league view the 17 straight losses as a reflection of our inability to match it against a club that knows it can beat us.

I don't disagree.... it's the club rhetoric for sure. Doesn't make it any less ruubish for mine. So i ignore it.

He probably ignores me and all works well lol

It's fair to say that this group has history against North now.  I expect we'll be fixed to play them once in Hobart in 2018.

Healy quizzed Goodwin as to why an undersized Lewis was left down there and effectively monstered by Brown. Goody said they spoke about Tmac going down back but the coaches were concerned that Tom was the only likely forward to mark and kick a score.

I get the point about Watts but seriously doubt he would've made any difference - such was his poor impact on the forward contests.

If the coaches can re-manufacture the scoring capability we had when there was no Hogan and Gawn then they need to do it quickly.

Why was he there in a Melbourne top ???

Obviously  Foxtel set the agenda by the questions they ask and issues they pursue ( or do they ??)

No discussion on the brightest young talent in the AFL  i.e. Clarrie and his progress. Plugger Mac , our young key defenders

Every topic from the panel focused on things that have not run right for us this year :

Gawnies injury/time taken to get working with midfield again.

WHat ifs:  re positioning and who last Saturday. WIth all due repects none of these blokes have coached at AFL level (yeas they hac=ve played well allof them) and their analysis is always in hindsight

Pedersen out of side after filling in so well. Spencers injury (or did they know he was injured)

Angus trouble with concussion

Jonesy approach to dual captaincy was about the only thing with any breadth.

Disappointed in the structure of the interview. It was like a script from his post game interviews and the panel only let his expand in relation to the dual captaincy.

Watts like everything else at MFC is being managed. If we don't win enough games to make the 8 this year was not meant to be. If we do and are near full strength we can beat any team on our day and may go all the way. Regardless, next year we will be better and will be assisted dy 1 or 2 free agents or similar.
