AFL Round 3 - Non MFC Games (2017)

So both Essendon and Hawks lost/losing, all of a sudden the Dons win vs Hawks Rd1 looking a lot less impressive, hoping today's performance is a more realistic assessment of where the Bombers are.

No doubt. Essendon are ordinary. Don't let their win over Brisbane count for much either.

We won't see anymore players who want to 'play finals' flocking to Hawthorn anytime soon.

Indeed and by there same count our win vs Carlton looking better- showed real grit to come back and beat them, something the Dons lack

Hawks are in for a world of pain no 1st pick this year, no kids coming through I think they made a mistake bringing in Mitchell and omeara, they will probably lose Burgoyne, hodge, Gibson they have no depth will need a full rebuild

Keep asking the missus if she's going to jump ship and come over to the MFC. ;)

Clarkson's genius might have peaked

Did she change her mind and ask for a merger?

Nah, just a marriage. One day before the Essendon game.

Lol, it just occurred to me, if they finish on the bottom, they get the spoon but not the first round draft pick. Haha, well done, Clarko, you crazy little man.

Gary comes out and tells everyone to go and get blessed.

Looks like trading in O'Meara and Mitchell for their first and second round draft picks was a big, big mistake. Clarko has the runs on th board to make a play like that and demand the boards support but it looks like he was in denial about the end of the Hawks era. They're well down already and their rebuild won't begin properly until 2018 when they get back into the pointy end of the draft

Damn shame ^_^

It's a shame to see the Hawks getting smashed!!! I was hoping they could win the flag this year. They haven't won it for so long.

Mitchell has been one of their only consistent players so far this year.  Not a mistake to get him, but could be a mistake with O'Meara.  He has time on his side but the injuries seemed to have taken away that 'X-factor' that he had a few years ago.

I'm sure they'll get a compensation pick to soften the blow. Poor buggers haven't had a good go of it of late.

Only three undefeated teams at the end of round 3.  I don't rate the Tigers basis who they've played (including WCE who just aren't competitive on the MCG) and as per the post match thread, the Cats are underwhelming.  So yesterday's loss is hurting less now and our draw is looking even more favourable.  If we can get the injury list under control and manage through the Gawn-less months, we could hit September in very good shape...

Post of the week.

It's science.

Hawthorn are done. They gave everything for O'Meara, including their first round pick in this years draft (which will be pick 1).

Someone may be able to remind me who it was, but I'm sure I heard a commentator mention during the week that Essendon is now everybody's second favourite side. Nothing could be further from the truth I suspect. I, for one, despise them. Drug cheats who were effectively rewarded with the number one pick in the land. Pure and simple.

Quite a number of these drug cheats will run on to the field today (please don't tell me that gobbledygook that none had an inkling as to why they had to continually head off site).

I hope they lose today.

I heard that too.

I hate Essendrug with every fibre of my body.

May they lose everything forever

don't tell me who i like Dick Head

Once Whorethorn drafted Ty Vickery it was always downhill time....

Hawthorn 0 -3

Tigers 3 - 0

Coincidence?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
