Great news if true. If quality is available then you go after it.

What do we all think a realistic trade would be? First round pick and either a late pick or fringe player?

2017 1st rounder and ANB is closer to what they would want, though they'll ask for 2017 and 2018 first rounders

If you had of said 1st round and ANB 2 months ago I would have jumped at it, but I want to keep him now I think he is only going to get better, so I would start at this years 1st rounder and maybe next years second

Happy to start at that, don't think it'll be enough. A first rounder this year and an up and coming player would be more likely. I'd rather keep our 2018 first and second picks as it's reported to be a very good and deep draft. That's not saying I don't rate ANB, just that I see Lever as of more importance over the next 10 years

Adelaide has had a terrible run since the free agency era began. Maybe worse than any other club. So many high profile players seeking trades, or simply jumping ship.

It's great isn't it.

Im lazy, but where did the 800K figure come from?

If that is the missing piece that lands us a flag, it's worth every penny/draft pick.

I would pay 2 first rounder but demand next years second rounder back from AFC.... that at least gives us 2 second rounders next year.

Probably a better suggestion, and closer to the mark.

Is that a sensible trade scenario I see? It's like the Aurora Borealis.

Imagine what Taylor and co could make of that in a ""Superdraft""

Mind boggles.

[censored] Lever. We are in it up to our ears this year. If he wants to come to us, so be it.

i see no reason to chase anyone. We got where we are because we payed unders for everyone.

Josh Kelly is good but we got Jayden Hunt for him. Win win. Except we got Tyson and Salem as well.

I feel like that will be our starting offer. I've been saying 1st 2017 and 1st 2018 for a while and I still think it'll end up that, possibly with some swaps of later picks thrown in. Part of the reason for that is that in years gone by, those picks might be in the 1-7 range. Now they'll be pick 10-14ish for the first one, and pick 15-18 for the next. Hardly high on points value. I feel like we might do some dinky thing like take both our first rounders, and we get their 2018 second rounder back. Apparently 2018 runs pretty deep, so to end up with two picks around the 30-36 mark... we might be able to get that kid we've targeted. Or even flip both to move into the early twenties. Keep in mind our list profile now. We have heaps of good players who are in the sweet age spot. We don't have heaps of room.

If you mean because you think we got shafted out of the Kelly deal... no glasses here. Tyson and Salem for Kelly. Loved it. Would do again.

I haven't seen much of the Crows this year. Is Lever really that good to potentially justify two first round picks?

Which part?

are we not a contender this year?

Could Hunt be better than Josh Kelly, Dom Tyson and Salem? It is becoming a serious question. He was the last thought in that trade but could be the best of them all.

We haven't even seen Oscar go forward yet. Apparently he can actually play there. A much better forward in the under 18's than Tom.

Two straight first round picks? Would that be the most ever offered up for one player?

The AFL is creating a monster which will come back to bite em' on the ass. Basically allowing clubs to disequalise themselves in a desperate short-term grab for cash and a flag. Note, North and Saints are leading the charge; clubs which need success now to financially survive.

But wait until the fans turn away when half the league has bottomed-out after having sold their farms and stretched their caps beyond wiggle - (although that's when we'll likely see the AFL rules-on-the-run specialty come into play).

I'm not an economist but I think this requires very very careful strategic planning and foresight - that perhaps we're in an inflationary cycle and could capitalise on the rebound. The problem is, it's happening as we're building our window and we also need success now, and I'm concerned that we will/will have to go with it.

Posted (edited)

I honestly don't get all the hoopla around Lever,    Sure he's a good player but the way most here are talking and what you are willing to give up you must be expecting him to be one of the best players in the entire league which is simply not and will not be the case. Outside of Silvagni when has this ever been the case with a backman.

KP backs are the one position where you can get away with NQR players as they offer most of the benifits at a fraction of the cost, you want to put your picks/money into mids and fwds.

For comparison, not saying Oscar is better but not that far off either

2 1st round picks is too much imo, tom Mitchell only cost 1 and he is a gun, key position players are harder to get but I would start with our 1st pick and go from there

i'd suggest 2017 first rounder and oscar for lever. need to hang on to that 2018 first rounder at (nearly) all cost.

We arent giving up two valuable assets for Lever.

In either of those scenarios, we will be getting a 2nd rounder back.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
