Pick 10 for lever is plenty. At worst pick 10 and swap of 2nd round picks will suffice.

No way will dees throw in either watts and Salem + pick 10

While I agree with the first part there is the counter argument that if you are paying a player 800k+ he is worth more than pick 10. He would become our highest paid player. Would we trade our best player for pick 10? Clearly not.

My preference would be to walk away in this case but unfortunately I get the feeling the club will cough up big time.

Amongst all the crap rumours, how do we propose to get Gaff. He's contracted and worth at least an early 1st rounder.

With all of the supposed high end young talent on the list, we have finally arrived at the point of topping up with the finishing touches to have a dip at a flag. Developing another batch of 18yr olds probably wont get us into a grand final in the next 2 or 3 years, whereas adding 2 or 3 very high end talents in areas of weakness just may do that.

We were always going to end up having a dip, and sell the longer term future for a solid crack at the now. I'm comfortable with paying a reasonable price if it means a flag. We would all quickly forget the price while enjoying a month long bender following that flag win.

If our young blokes develop the way we hope, the time to go after the best is now.

played more games this year than any other year and as long as we're on top of the thyroid issue he's vital to our future imo

And we have a winner.

I'd be interested to know just how many football related injuries Salem has a history of having had.  As far as I am aware, he missed the most time suffering from a thyroid condition (hardly football related), then concussion as a result of a brick hitting him in the head (again, hardly football related... self inflicted) and most recently suffered a hamstring injury (and I get the feeling Salem is not the first AFL player to have done a hammy).

So, just what is this injury history he has, and what "worse prognosis" could the club possibly be holding back on?

I didn't say "football related injury". Perhaps I should have said illness.

Yeah, fair enough... definitely not an injury, and I'm pretty sure that once his condition is under control, it can be kept under control.

Have you ever heard of a bloke named Kent and a little sweetener known as JKH?

And further to my last reply, I was kind of replying while (in my mind) referencing Wrecker's comment along the lines of "...but no club will pay enough with his injury history".  Apologies for the confusion.

No problems at all. I should have been clearer too!

I am worried that there's more going on here though. I've heard thyroid conditions can impeded a person's aerobic capacity for a long, long time.

If it's under control it shouldn't have any effect.

Isn't this only a guide for Compo picks when a free agent leaves.

I don't see any reason why picks should matter to what a team is willing to pay in $$$. If lever is worth a first and second, or some people saying two first rounders, that's fine as it's what he's worth on the market. What another team is willing to pay in dollars shouldn't come into the equation.

What they want and what they'll get is two different stories.

Lever is out of contract which means their leverage is already diminished.

I think Pick 10 & Pick 27 will get it done.

If it were 2018 pick as well I'd be wanting something else back I reckon coin

I agree with the philosophy but just don't think Lever is the one.

Who do you reckon is 'the one' at the moment that's gettable?

A 21 year old all Australian quality intercept defender who is already regarded as a future AFL captain and likely to be a premiership player and has turned in strong performances already in big games and finals. God "the one" must be a handy player if he tops lever

I've enquired as to the services of Mr Li. He regrets to inform us he's too busy but did offer us some advice:

If you are always allowed to stop training whenever you feel discomfort, you will find it too easy to give yourself permission to quit !!

He also said..... If we touch his hair he'd kill us...So take what you will ........ ;)

Pick 17 (gain from Adelaide in Lever trade) & Dean Kent

for Andrew Gaff & Pick 48/or Fraser McInnes

What's your basis for this?  The fact he intercepts more than any other player, the fact he is 21 yrs old, the fact he is touted as a future captain, the fact he dominated in a final.

Yep lets pass him up

Dodoro was fair with us in Melksham and Hibberd deals. And in the Carlisle deal with the Saints too, it was the Saints going too hard there.

That was with the drug suspensions hanging over those trades. Let's hear how he is again this off season. I suspect he'll return to being a jackass.

You forget Essendrug saved about $1mill in player payments whilst those 2 were suspended. Fair? Hardly. Got out of jail more likely.

Lets keep facts as facts. He does not intercept more than any other player and NEVER has. He led the league in intercept marks, not intercepts.

Dominated? Haha he played a good game in a great team performance, he most certainly did not dominate. 15 touches and a few big spoils which everyone gets excited about when an actual player dominating would have marked them instead of punching to the boundary.

ADELAIDE v GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
8 Brad Crouch (Adel)
8 Eddie Betts (Adel)
5 Matt Crouch (Adel)
4 Tom Lynch (Adel)
3 Callan Ward (GWS)
1 Luke Brown (Adel)
1 Richard Douglas (Adel)

Lets talk FACTS if you want, but lets stick to facts.

There's a reasons Adelaides offer isn't close to ours.

I would much rather Stringer given he would cost less financially, significantly less trade wise and has a higher ceiling as a footballer.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
