Such thoughful timing.....

I wonder if the pamphlet will become a collectors item in the future? I might go pull mine out of the bin just in case it does.

I am really surprised the club has not made direct contact with members this week leaving them in limbo.

Possible news with/from the club:

  • A member has called/emailed them first then received a response.
  • the Jones press conf on the website - how many members saw it? (Not sure about other media like twitter or fb).  Did anyone receive an email, sms telling them it was there?

Other info sources:

  • Fan forums like this one.
  • Newspaper/radio/TV reports (mainly ridicule)

There are 42,000 of us!

How many of those members have not accessed one of the above:  20,000? 30,000? They have been left in limbo.

Without Demonland to keep me informed, I would have gone spare.  I have been waiting for an email from the club all week.  Nothing.  Have other members received anything from the club (aside from finals ticket booklet)?

Rightly or wrongly I am now feeling let down by the club itself.

The club has missed the opportunity to get on the front foot and get its own message to members.  I can only think they are still in a state of shock and have no idea what to do.

The silence is deafening.

Might be harder work to retain/ increase membership unless they get onto the front foot.

Pretty pizzpoor

Be a pity to waste all the hard work.

Wish I had thought of that before picking up the dog poo with it.

It was a mistake to send at all. Too early and we hadnt made it

Too late and tickets gone anyway.

Make it and do electronic blitz email facey etc, whack an ad in the paper too. Cheaper and more effective and not open to this [censored]

Agreed.

I would think a short email along the lines of:

Hi....

Our whole club is very disappointed with how our season ended.  Our captain Nathan Jones had a press conference today sharing that disappointment with you.  It can be viewed at ..........

In due course our coach Simon Goodwin will talk to you about the season and our future.

You will receive a booklet on finals tickets which was sent out prior to round 23 to all clubs in contention to ensure that if we made the finals you would have every opportunity to share it with us.  Unfortunately we didn't get there so we ask you to recycle it or return it to the club.

Thank you for your support this year.

How is that bb?  Not that hard is it?

I've worked with organisations who would have gone into 'damage control' mode:

  • At 6.00pm last Saturday developed a communication plan to customers (in our case members) and press releases to the media, in case WCE won.
  • At 8.00pm on Sunday it would have been activated in time to be in the Monday morning newspapers and in member's email boxes when they woke up.

It would have stopped many of the angry phone calls and emails to staff.  Not stopped all but a lot of them. The club could then control the public narrative.

There is no doubt the Jones press conf was a reaction to the sh...t storm that they got Monday morning.

Not one iota of pro activeness!  They could have managed it properly and stopped the whole debacle!

Not that hard is it!

Youre right...not hard at all. I mean  you whipped that up in no time.

It leaves a bad taste in the mouth to tell the truth.  They're all over us like a rash......... then dropped quicker than undies at a hens night !!

Got my pamphlet today. Only made me angrier because I was expecting important documents that didn't arrive and I leave the country tomorrow. The little piece of crap is all I got.

My wife hid the finals pamphlet from me. Apparently she thinks I wouldn't have been able to handle seeing it and don't have access to any forms of social media or run a demons website where I would have found out about it anyway.

She must be worried for the safety of the cat.

Maybe she kept it to have a few laughs with her friends. Or maybe she has a secret crush on Nate Jones flexing his ample muscles. Just sayin'....

You  could still send it back to the club...

I got a reply from the club apparently all ten afl clubs who had a chance to make the eight were sent this from the afl not the clubs themselves .

I said that this isnt good enough as I would have missed out on my priority ticket allocation  and the club should be on the front foot letting members know how to go about it if we do make it a week before tickets are on sale.

Im not sure they understood my frustration and passed the buck back to the afl .why have the membership level I do if this is what happens at finals time?

This is something that the club should have explained in their media release to members about how the season ended and... oh wait...

That's right... since last Saturday the whole "Executive" group have gone to the snow...

Does anyone know if the are still alive or did they all die after the game?

That was other thing I said in the email , someone should be steering the ship with an official club statement after a gut wrenching weekend . Im not sure what's happening there but I dont like it.

Me either, it's not hard to release a statement of disappointment and that the standards throughout his year were better were not good enough and a crack down across the club is coming.

All we are hearing is crickets...

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but is Matt Burgan a full time employee at the club?

Has anyone confirmed if the 10th club, assuming it is the doggies, had these sent to their members?

I've copped a lot of flack at work in relation to this and the Dogs fans I've spoken to didn't receive anything.

We're a pretty balanced club:    We make our selves the laughing stock on and off the field..Well done Dees !!

What really sticks in my craw is that we are once again a laughing stock.

Will be interesting to see if Goodwin has big enough Kahuna's to turn this around next year.

Even with 12 wins The MFC has managed to dig a big hole for itself in 2017

it is easy to see. Our 1st Quarter efforts were pathetic...

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
