Dont want to jinx anything, but I've found myself less concerned about injuries this season than in seasons past.

Gawn goes down, followed soon after by Spencil, and we figure out an entire new way to play in such a scenario.

Hogan is out long term, up steps TMac which in turn gives OMac more game time than he might otherwise have had and he is blossoming too.

Other guys like Hannan, Harmes & ANB are also stepping up beautifully in the absence of others.

Silver linings!

That said, the sooner we get Jones, Salem, Hogan, Brayshaw & co back the better!

It has certainly been a challenge for the players and the club, but how well have they managed it?  Triumph out of adversity.  Well done.

A bit like the Bulldogs of 2016?  Hope it finishes the same way!!

As long as Jones is ready for finals. If we finally make it and he misses out, that would be an absolute crime against footy!

Unlike Bob Murphy, Nathan should be up in time for the action.

The list is getting longer and some players seem to be going backwards. Jesse Hogan has gone from 426 to indefinite (not sure what that means) and Lochie Filipovic is out to 3 weeks.

And Big Max ... he's back!!!

Melbourne injury list: round 14

Angus Brayshaw (concussion) – indefinite
Lochie Filipovic (hip flexor) – 3 weeks
Col Garland (knee) – season
Max Gawn (hamstring) – available
Jesse Hogan (testicular cancer) – indefinite
Jayden Hunt (shoulder) – available
Neville Jetta (ankle) – available
Nathan Jones (quadriceps) – 4-6 weeks
Pat McKenna (hamstring) – 6-8 weeks
Joel Smith (shoulder) – 2 weeks
Tim Smith (navicular bone) – season
Aaron vandenBerg (heel) – season
Jack Watts (hamstring tightness) – test

They don't even update the injury list waste of time looking at it, just get the info from Goody or Misso.

Dom Tyson couldn't drive his car to recovery this morning due to a knee injury picked up in the last 30 seconds of last nights game & is in doubt for next week... When will it end :(

Vince and Lewis will need to play midfield

and hopefully with Oliver, melksham, Trengove make up a makeshift midfield that can keep us in the hunt until we get these guys back

Before the west coast game I was thinking our injury was becoming very manageable. That's been blown right out now. Losing both our captains (not to mention two of our best midfielders) is a massive blow to us. At least we get back Watts, Hogan, and hopefully Jeffy next week.

Our midfield engine has effectively been wiped out. Oliver stands as our own starting 22 mid. Vince and Lewis will have to go into the middle which isn't the end of the world but leaves us loose down back and potentially playing a super defensive game style like against the Swans.

Tyson and Viney unlikely to play imo. Hunt looks raw. Watts unlikely and Hogan is probably 40% chance of playing.

That leaves Trengove as a guaranteed in imo. Kent and Kennedy probably also in.

What a mess we're in. Thankfully they're only short term and over the next month we should get a steady stream of players back. Even with those out we still have a better team than we did at any point 2012-2014.

If we get back Hogan, Watts and Garlett, we might be okay. But the silver lining is that along with Gawn's injury we've tested our depth. Friday was a bad gauge due to Quick turn around. Carlton game stands as the true test of our depth.

In a season where its wide open, we sit in a good position ladder and % and even have pundits saying we will win the flag..   we get smashed to pieces by injuries to our best players.

Its just so [censored] typical.  It will take something special to make the finals from here.

No team can cover the loss of players the calibre of Viney, Watts, Garlett, Hogan, Jones, Salem, Brayshaw etc etc...   and might need to chuck in Tyson now too.

Who knows when any of them will be back.

They'll all be back with 3-4 weeks to go?

Let's hope the Tyson injury is like that suffered by Nick Riewoldt earlier in the season.

What most thought season ending when he did it turned out to be a week if that.

Why do I think we won't have that kind of luck !!

Happened right in front of me. Don't think it's serious because he seemed to be able to run through it for 30 seconds before the siren went. Happened in the contest and seemed like he banged it. I don't think it's serious but a bruised knee can be a 1-2 week thing. That he went home and planned to go to recovery without having it been reported suggests it's not structural. I'm fairly certain he banged it against someone else or something similar. Roos' knee was a twist and strain. If you read the game day thread I'm fairly certain I mention seeing it when it happened.

LOL

We are stuffed

Our finals chances are now in serious jeopardy. Hogan was supposed to play last week but that moved, watts is now out for another week. They keep extending the length of them.

Consider also how long it takes players to get back to form. Look at Max....hes not the same.

If any team is to drop out of the 8, a betting man would have to look at Dees out list and think mmmmm.

Our finals chances are not in "serious jeopardy", they are over. We would not even beat Brisbane missing 8 of our best 22. We do not have the depth to cover these injuries for the next 4-5 weeks as the performance at Port Melbourne showed today. After the past 4 weeks i really thought we had something going here, but now that just seems a distant memory.

Not sure I agree totally but I am worried. No one can really say how long all will be out but our season has been turned on its head. I didnt want to depress anyone too much. I dont even think Hogan will back this weekend.

Yep sorry Pates to bring bad news but the hits just keep happening here at the MFC. We will be lucky to beat this bunch who have no chance of finals.

The problem we have is that because it is such a tight competition we are realistically looking at dropping the next 4 games which will shunt as back to the lower section of the ladder. The current injured players will lose match fitness and as a result will take time to impact the result of games. With only 8 weeks left, it will be too great a hurdle to overcome. I love what this group has achieved so far this year, which is why this just seems hopeless and so bloody unfair. Footy can be a [censored] sometimes.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
