JLT Round 1: Dogs at the Kennel

Featured Replies

It's worth noting that this wasn't their B side this time. I don't know if they had some of their first side out, but most of the big names looked to be there. No Bont I think. Even so, we had more names sitting it out than they did.

Lewis top ballwinner.

Smith was huge in the first half, didn't notice him as much in the latter.

Salem is all class, but we knew that.

Jones and Viney the usual.

Oliver was good and did freakish things.

Garlett had a heap of assists. Very unselfish game.

HOGAN! Four goals five marks.

Vince was our second biggest ballwinner, but I hardly noticed him.

Tracca was solid but needs more ball.

Wagner injured. Looked like a knee from here. He overextended trying to impact a marking contest and landed really badly.

Thanks mate

From our best 22 you could argue we were five down - jetta, watts, tyson, frost and kent.

how many were the dogs down?

Fox commentators were certainly claiming the dogs were down in comparison, but I'm not so sure.  Watts, Tyson and Jetta are big outs for us.

Bet we do

It's only pre season don't get ahead of ourselves. At least that is what I'm telling myself after watching that.

Plenty to like about especially from some of the

new recruits

Players who were limited last season

Some of our younger boys.

Ok Pennant calm down

That's because the idiots on Fox Footy don't even know what our best 22 is.

As mentioned, Watts, Jetta, Hibberd, Tyson & Kent are all best 22.

They had no Bontempelli, Wood, Morris, Picken, Boyd & Smith.

So fairly similar in regards to best 22 and the numbers out.

Of course the AFL website only mentioned the players the Dogs have out as it helps their biased narrative.

Who was missing aside from Bont?

Never mind. Answered above

Ah yep, Hibberd too.

Their outs better than our outs, i guess. A win is a win is a win

I agree. But it annoys me how the commentators harp on about it when we also have guys out.

I didn't get to watch the game but it seems the midfield's were both at near full capacity, how did we stack up?

True, but our outs aren't that far behind.  It's not as if it was a huge gap like everyone was trying to trumpet so they can downplay our performance and make excuses for the media darlings.

I know I was a little harsh of your prediction earlier OD - I just like to keep the optimism up to kick off the year.  If I go in looking at a game and thinking we can't win then I'm in for a long year!

We have had  quite a few long years in the last decade so I look forward to along year of wins in 2017.

Yeah this is the issue. There's no doubt we played an under-strength Dogs side but it's not like last year where we put our best 22 against their worst 22 and fell over the line.

He is only a backman, they are not the smartest players going round.

Tommy holds his own pretty well though and after a start that had the commentators salivating that he was the recruit of the year, Oscar did a pretty good job on Cloke.

Thank you.

These commentators can talk some smack. Gerard Healy was impressed with Wagner's speed off half back last year. WTF? He's as slow as a turtle (has some other, good traits of course). I'm no doctor but Wagner's injury might be an achilles. Sad for him.

Joel Smith will play 100+ games for us, lock it in.

You agree with our Development Coach.

Their outs diminished them more than ours.  They had multiple All-Australians missing.

That said, I thought we controlled the bulk of the game and a 2 goal win at their dunghole is nothing to sneeze at.

A good hitout and the coaches will get as much out of it as the players.

I don't think those guys are definite best 22 so left them out.

Strong squad though!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
