Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Haha, I remember that one fondly. It was a completely different team back then. I think only Jones, Watts, Jetta, Trengove and a beardless Gawn (who made his debut that night) remain from that game. Quite remarkable really.

I don't think Max had a huge impact on the game, but I remember him clunking what is now known as a trademark 'Maxy grab' in the goalsquare against Dustin Fletcher and proceeded to miss the shot from 10m directly out in front.

Not totally sure I remember it, but was it the one where Col Garland played at FF and kicked a small bag?

We had the wood on the Dons for a few years there, when they were on a competitive side and we were bloody hopeless - those tables have certainly turned in the last few years.  If I recall correctly 2011 they were practically unbeaten until we played them at their drugged up peak.

And if you don't have Foxtel, the game's on YouTube. I'll watch it myself this afternoon on the big screen using my Apple TV.

I think the one you're thinking of is from 2012. I don't think we'd won a game up to that point while Essendon were close to the top of the ladder. We came out and played the scrappiest game of football of all time and somehow found a way to win. I think that was Neeld's first win as coach as well. Maxy didn't play that game either.

Very hazy but I thought Gawn helped win us that game.  Looking at the stats not so much.  I remember exiting an establishment later in the night with a couple of bombers supporters talking in front of me, 'Bloody Gawn.'  I interjected with the only appropriate drunken victory cry .... 'GAWN!!!'

Round 11, 2011. Brad Green kicked 4. Jordan Gysberts had 30 disposals.

Moloney, Trengove and Jordie McKenzie also outstanding.

Heh, for a laugh, looking at the numbers, there were other 'Demons' who were among the best on the day - Melksham and Hibbered!

For the magic GAWN MOMENT in the video Demon Jack posted, start from at 2:05:00, but stop before 2:06:00. :)

On first read I thought it a clever circumvention of the auto censor, then I thought oh no it's Formally Know As, on reflection I think you meant the former.

I had a lot of fun watching a couple of the recorded replays last night. Watching the Hawthorn game brought back a great memory. There was a moment late in the third quarter where Hawthorn had noticeably gone up a notch. The game was a its hottest and we soaked up the pressure and responded strongly. We were up for it. I told my parochial Hawthorn supporting nephew that we were going to win at that point. And we did. It really is one of my favourite parts of footy. When you're the underdog and you're in front and the favourite is mounting a charge and you find a way to meet the challenge and then go on with it. Sometimes that moment may only be 60 seconds of frenetic footy but if you take their best shot and then respond, you know you'll be ok. I had the same feeling at times during the Collingwood games and the Port Adelaide a week after the Hawthorn win. I'm slowly learning to trust my football team again. When they're on and playing well, like they were in these games, you can trust them to finish it off. Can't wait to see the new and improved model in 2017 with a couple of extra wise heads and the ongoing improvement of the 1 - 4 year players.

Jordan Gysberts was genuinely good in the Essendon game 2011.  His disposal, which was a weakness, was also good.  And he just knew where to be to get the footy, an underrated art.  It's a pity he obviously didn't have the required dedication.

Trengove also moved better in that game.  His first few steps weren't as though they were in concrete.

Watched that game last night, along with Rd 15 Vs Collingwood.  In fact the player fka O'Brien features in quite a few of the games and dispite some distain of said player on this forum, Harry (can't spell his new one) is actually quite serviceable in most of them.

Back to da Gawn Dawg - contrast Rd 15 Vs Collingwood 2015 where he is out on his feet late in the third quarter (and much to the amusement of the commentators pretty much stuck hands on hips in the same spot at CHB for the last 5 mins of the qtr), compared to Rd 20 Vs Hawthorn 2016, where big Maxy just powers on with his dominant marking and ruck work full of running.  What a difference a full preseason and further physical development makes - now multiply that out for a few more in our developing list and watch the positive match day results flow!!

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
