Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We need more supporters and members

that is a lot of $$$ we miss each year.

Of course, but don't use Essendon as your shining light example.

On a membership ratio we do better than them.

I don't get this ratio notion - it seems fellatious  fallacious to me. Memberships are hard figures. How many people "support" a club - who really knows?

And just what is a "supporter"?

Bottom line is you're going to have more members if you have 3.5 times the number of supporters.

The fact that they have only 1.5 times the members with 3.5 times the supporters either says we're doing well or they're doing very poorly.

Unless, of course, you're obtuse.

That's based on over 100 years of football.

They grew out of a suburb and we grew out of a footy ground.

Surely you've known for decades that most other Victorian clubs have far more supporters ?

Irrespective, you highlighted their success in members and I'v shown you that we're far more successful in gaining members per ratio of supporters.

No doubt you'll reply with another inane comment that misses the point.

Your theory is that if the MFC had 20 supporters and 15 were financial backers then that is a success, i get it  it's the sort of tripe Schwab used to trot out to keep the wolves at bay

If our success had continued past 1965 we would have a truckload more supporters and members than we do now.

I am well aware of the plight of other Victorian Clubs, doesn't mean a thing to me really.

We are the name of a big city and we have NEVER used it properly.

fortunately we now have some professionals running the place and hopefully pulling us in the right direction, so that generations of primary school kids will buy a Demon Jumper

You used Essendon as a model to be admired.

I've shown you we're more successful turning supporters into members than them.

You're example of Essendon was bzzzz wrong.

You'll do anything to pull out a negative, hey SWYL?  Who gives a stuff if Essendon have 65k members?  You just wanted to drop it in here to push your tired, negative agenda.

No i didn't. I find it amazing the drug cheats have still held onto 65,000 members, considering they would have lost 10-15,000 because of what happened.

You have no idea what i want to do, let's keep it that way, shall we

You highlighted their tally of 65,000 as some sort of benchmark we should aspire to.  I point out they have 3.5 times more members for only a 1.5 times better result, ergo we're doing far better in the conversion stakes.

You then highlight again that the "cheats have more than us".  Derr

It's like talking to a triple brick wall where a modicum of common sense is unable to penetrate.  An insuperable challenge.

They have 700,000 supporters Australia wide yet he's "amazed" they convert between 9-10 % into members.  We convert over 20%.

Yes, I do.  What other purpose is there to trumpet that Essendon have 65k members, other than to try and point out our failures and how we should have more?  Why do you need to talk about your 'amazement' in a thread about our memberships, where we've shown considerable improvement this year?  It makes zero sense to me.

They have just gone through 5 years of total sh!t and yet still hold 25,000 more members than we do

I find that very interesting as i thought memberships would have dropped of in droves after WADA and CAS had put the boot through them.

If you don't find that interesting well it aint my problem. I am sure others will

Essendon supporters include people that don't follow the code but like planes. Not many people that aren't into footy say I like Demons so will barrack for Melbourne.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
