THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS

The expectations on Roughy have been set pretty high in my opinion all the same.

I agree with you 'willmoy'...I love that he's back fit & well but surely he doesn't need the weight of the captaincy at this time of his life.

It's going to be enough to survive the battle for a start and to play is a bonus.

The captaincy, whilst it carries an emotional edge for him and his teammates may be asking a bit too much.

that's what i was thinking rjay, especially remembering all the extra pressure and attention big jimma took on as prez

Hawks havent set the world alight with clever decisions of late !

Just emerged from 2 weeks in the Cooler

nice to see the sun. I managed to read Smith's article on Hird. It was pushed under the door. Good to see at least one journalist can see through the crap still.

Has Jab returned his stolen medal yet?

Donald Trump is now the US President so is it too early to start drinking?

Here is Hird snr response to Patrick Smith's articles:  http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/opinion/patrick-smith-ignores-the-truth-in-his-articles-on-my-son-james-hird/news-story/722b0db398c399c6fc82b7dac1ff7cff

Nothing worth quoting - it is a rehash of the whole saga from go to whoa.  Full of should've, could've, would've.  Calling for a Senate enquiry.

He didn't mention whether he had been to see his son, James; one doubts that he has - it would have been all over the news if he had.  Or he would have made a comment about James's wellbeing/progress somewhere in the article.  One would think visiting your son when unwell would be a far better way to support him and his family than a rant.

Interesting, that Cronulla (who just happened to win the 2016 premiership) are not joining the band wagon to have a Senate enquiry into ASADA etc.  Cronulla are winners; Essendon et al are sore losers - still bellyaching about the umpires decsion.

Why the hell would they want a Senate enquiry????

Itd be an open shop and essendon people like dank would have to answer the hard questions!

Wheres your brownlow now?

Why didnt you tell asada what youd been taking

Where are the records

Etc etc

he was back on 3aw again yesterday with tony jones and he said he still hasn't been to see jh nor spoken directly to him. talks via the daughter. i have read elsewhere that jh's parents split up some time again and jh sided with the mother and became somewhat (but not completely) estranged from his father. don't know how much truth in that but it might explain some things

So when round 1 comes along and yhe bombers play the hawks we will have 2 new captains.

One returning from a year ban after drug cheating.

One returning from a year out fighting cancer.

Who gets the "returning hero" march/celebrations?

I feel sick.

Your post seems to be critical of Roughead. I hope that's not intended. I expect most footy supporters, whoever they support, wish Roughy well (except when his team plays theirs)

I didn't read it that way.........in fact I perceived irony and read the complete opposite.

Yes......EssenDrug fans will see their guys as heroes, and no doubt Gil and his henchmen will go along with that (unless of course a poll suggests they should think otherwise).....but I hope most will be, to use an awful Americanism, rooting for Roughy.

Hird Snr clearly doesn't get the WADA code, what it is, how it works, and where precedent lies. pretty much straight from the handbook of the jibbering mule.

Yeah i keep seeing ess supporters asking people to explain why wada asada etc never charged hird.

BECAUSE THE CODE DIDNT CHARGE SUPPORT PEOPLE

ffs

They had to change it as a result of this

Besides, its athlete v "doped" athlete on the park so who has actually cheated.

I just think Hird has tried every possible angle to be viewed as "the victim" in this whole sad and sorry mess.

yep....every angle ;)

GoodBye the "triple treble"

Will he return it or will he "lose" it and "return" it

Bit rough in fashion. Wasn't Bolt. Still, rules are rules

It's only a matter of time...

One man running clean & winning against the rest...call me cynical but I've heard this story before.

A team event? And the whole team was punished?

The AFL should hang their heads in shame.

And by the way #giveitbackjobe

Poor oll Jab, gonna be a fun filled season for him....

Is there a way we can be rooting for Roughy and also have the Hawks lose?

I will barrack for every team that plays Essendon.  I would like them to lose as many games as possible so will be going for the Hawks, albeit through gritted teeth!  The lesser of two evils so to speak!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
