Wow I am getting old and losing it. I was certain he had chosen freo already, was picked up last year and had been on their list for a full season.

So hes training with us...  maybe just for the experience or maybe we are still in with a shot.

No idea how good he is but I'm having serious fantasies about Pickett and Farmer becoming the most exciting small forward combo the league has ever seen.

If he’s good enough to make AFL, he’s going to Freo. All the developments last year posted in this thread show he’s not coming to us. He already trains with them as part of their academy. He’s a Freo supporter. Nat Fyfe is his idol. He lives in WA with his family. His mother is a Freo supporter, has has health issues, and doesn’t travel to Melbourne anymore for health reasons. When Jeff was interviewed last year, he said he hopes Kobe plays for Freo and can wear his number 33.

Regardless, he missed the U18 WA team and is speculative at this point.  The only way he’s coming to us is if he’s not good enough to be drafted and we grab him for nothing, in which case he’s not good enough so why bother.

Jet Juniors can into Turkeys ala Toumpas and a lot of guys can make it later. Personally I'd love to have Jeff's son in the Red and Blue. I'd give the kid a go regardless of where he's at. As long as he wants to be in Victoria, and donning the Red and Blue.

It would be great to have the Farmer name on the list again. But he has to have the talent. I’m not interested in the romance just for the sake of it.

Maybe Kobe will be staying in Melbourne and completing his year 12 with a grammar school in 2021. This is just a guess. I could be wrong. I don't think he is here just for the school holidays.

he nominated for the draft?

How has he made it into Vic - thought the border doesn't open until the 8th?

Today was the day for lodgement of the Final Draft Nomination Form and AFL Father-Son Bidding Nominations with the AFL. Therefore, if he’s coming aboard with us, we should know by tomorrow.

fingers crossed then.

So his draft year is this year I take it? Always thought it was next year? The date of birth listed says he's 18 so makes sense if it's this year...

Yes if that age is correct he will be in this draft

But he hasn't had a single mention anywhere in the media or any phantom drafts, so I bet that DOB is incorrect

Might be way off, but something seems a little secretive here. I think the club took down a photo on its socials and it's pre-season training article from the website that had him in it, could have sworn it was him. Now it appears he's nominated for the draft and no media has picked it up either...

Yeah I think you are correct, for some reason I actually thought he had another year left to be drafted.

My mistake

He's definitely nominated, but probably hasn't got much press because he's not seen as a potential main draft pick, I'm wondering if we might nominate and hope there's no bids and he falls through to the rookie draft. Or if they were giving him one last chance, otherwise he'll probably play colts again in the WAFL and try again next year.

Nah I think the media have always reported it as 2021 also, just did some googling of articles

IF      Kobe Farmer is currently in Melbourne training with the Demons with the draft just three days away...

THEN     You can lock it in that he will be drafted to the club his father 'The Wiz' is still revered at and played in a Grand Final for

What if he isn't AFL standard, do we still LOCK him in?

This video clip says he's eligible in 2021... It says it in the last 5 seconds after saying he wants to wear a Freo jumper!

He's listed in Herald Sun's list of players entered into this years draft. As he is 18, he may be eligible for this year. The above article was from 2 years ago and Freo may have told him they wouldn't take him.

Freo also have at least 2 academy players who they'll take, and 1 is a small forward (Joel Western) so maybe Farmer just isn't a need for them?

On memory it took his dad to settle down early on, if he's got his dad's smarts he'll make it.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
