I do agree and I'm definitely a strong supporter for investing in our young guns, but if we're a club pushing for finals next season, playing Barlow as a forward could help us big time in my opinion. Not saying we should go out and chase him with every penny we've got, but certainly worth a thought.. He just adds that little bit more experience and class that i think Vandenberg lacks in his game. Just one to think about.. 

It's hard , because who you going to drop?

Harmes, Garlett, Kent, Hogan, Watts, Weideman, Pederson?

Most likely a Lewis will rest forward as well along with guys like Tyson, Petracca and Vince. 

Pressure for spots is a good thing though.

So Hibberd was the only planned trade for the trade period, I wonder how many people would've reacted to that negatively in this forum if Lewis had not have occurred? I know I would have.

For mine there is a chance some Dees players who may see themselves further away from senior footy given trade arrivals may seek a trade tomorrow.

Maybe, but they all knew Hibberd was coming and Lewis is just one guy and could play in a number of positions. ANB is the obvious one but I'm not sure teams would be all that interested in him and it's a big step to decide to up and move in one week.

Growing possibility of the most complex single trade day in the history of the game tomorrow.

Deledio, O'Meara, Lyons, Gibbs, Tuohy.

Suns have plenty to of draft picks to offer to get Lyons, and of course would prefer to use picks given their surplus.

Hawthorn may want to turn that into a 3-party deal where Adelaide get stuff from Hawthorn AND Gold Coast so that Hawthorn can facilitate 'a player' (Lyons) as part of getting O'Meara from Gold Coast.

But of course, what Adelaide really want is Gibbs, so Carlton needs to be brought in as part of the deal. They have a taste for 'adequate' young players, and this might also make the proposed Hawthorn trade-bait players more willing to move if they get to stay in Melbourne.

Deledio to GWS is just... whaaaaat? But Carlton want GWS players so maybe GWS can acquire a reasonable pick deal from them in order to acquire Deledio without giving up the very top picks they want to hold on to. Possibly one that Carlton get for Gibbs.

Why? The only trade I've liked so far for a player that:
A) Would've suited us
B) Could've picked us over other sides

Is North's pick 69 for Paul Ahern and he's coming off 2 ACL's in 1 year.

There's a few other nice deals going on - Jack Steele, Nankervis, Hrovat - but they probably weren't guys that wouid've picked us.

Garlands got to be pretty low on the pecking order now, clearly Dunn has decided that. 

I also wonder whether some younger players like Stretch and ANB (who I both like) might feel like they won't be seeing many senior games next year.

I meant the trade period as a whole, not the Hibberd trade. We all knew Hibberd was coming a few months ago, but many people still wanted to see a few more trades. In light of Mahoney's interview today, i read that we had not planned to pick up anyone else even if Lewis had not happened.

You've got to have picks or players you can trade. But with any/all our older/tradeable players with any currency gone (e.g. Frawley), and only one pick in the first 2 rounds, there was never much of a chance of doing anything this year. We've been massive players the last few seasons, but that can't continue indefinitely, and these things need to be looked at in the longer term.

My question is why would that have bothered you or anyone else?

We didn't have much to give up or much to bring in.

I'd be all for trading for a ruck or some outside run but both of those can be found in the draft.

On the question (thought it was a good one) of what we'd take from other trades (because you cannot just pretend that we missed out on Fyfe or Rocky  )

• Getting Hawthorn's first rounder next year and 2 second rounds for a first round pick (St Kilda for the win)
• Nankervis for 4th round - we do need a ruck, but he does want to be 1st ruck. 
• Ahern - for a 4th rounder, yep! 
• Hanley - but he wasnt going to leave Queensland
• Brad Hill - would have loved but WA bound 
• Lewis and Mitchell for nothing. Lewis is the better one in here and we got him. 
• Hibbard - exactly what we need. Wish we got him.... oh wait! 
• Tuohy - he is what we need of half back, but I think we got a better version with Hibbard and without the 1st rounder.

No interest in: 

• Marley Williams (heading to North apparently) - meh 
• I wouldnt have taken Prestia for the money or the trade. I think that Lewis works well for us here and we have a strong inside team building. 
• Same reason for Mitchell. Would be great, wouldnt say no, but dont care because of $ and picks.  
• Lids - great player but not at the $, not at the draft pick. 
• Hamling - no need 
• Nathan Brown - if we are keeping Garland, no need for Brown 
• Steele, Hrovat, Stevens - really only depth for us and our depth is just as good as these guys. 
• Mayne
• Wells 
• Vickery 

I would sooooooooooooo love to see the Hawks miss out on getting OMeara. That would make my day... my week, in fact. Unfortunately the Bombers may get him, should Haw not. Much better for him to re-sign with the Suns.

My number one priority with the Hibberd trade known already, was to bring in a mature and experienced player with skilful disposal and compusre, like we did with Cross. Dal Santo seemed to be one of the ideal candidates. Jordan Lewis was the most perfectly timed trade that filled that need. Our win against the Hawks in round 19 or 20 might prove to be one of the most important wins we've had in a decade (or a half century)

If we are going to rely on bringing in a back-up ruckman to support Gawn (which now clearly seems like it will be through the draft), then i'd want it to be a mature-age ruckman.

Darcy Cameron would be at the top of my list, but doubt he will last until our first pick.

We already have Gawn and Spencer to tuck with Pedo Dawes and Watts who can sub in to with the Kings developing. How many rucks do we need. That's 7 players on our current list who can fill the void

Watts shouldn't be rucking. Too valuable.

Dawes stays at Casey, if he even stays on our list at all.

Spencer is insurance on Gawn

Pedo is a KPF/relief ruck on yearly contract. Honest toiler.

If you cannot see that we need to develop another ruck beyond the two Kings, then try opening your eyes.

Seems unlikely Dawes will be on the list for next year, same with Max King. Almost no way both. Then Pedersen and Spencer need to be upgraded. Ideally 2017 would be the last year for both of them.

Geelong are backing themselves to win it next year (pick 18) and for carlton to finish close to last with Tuohy and Gibbs going (pick 20/21).

Smedts is a spud and Tuohy gives them something they don't have. To move back a few spots is hardly the terrible trade some are alluding to.

Agreed.

Smedts is not much of a player and Geelong supporters don't rate him at all. In their eyes, they're simply sliding back 5 or 6 spots to gain Tuohy.

Our trade week played out all year when we re-signed every single important player not just beyond 2016, but beyond 2017 too.

Do we have an international rookie spot? Wouldn't mind seeing an investment in an athletic sudanese or african/american player like the Saints, Swans & Kangas have done. (Or an Irish ruckman) They couldn't be that far behind Spencer.
